flyfshn Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Searched for the answer to this question in the archives, but could not find it....what is the best way to keep your hands warm during winter fishing? Assuming it is a good pair of gloves, but what type/brand? Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Trav Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 I have been using a pair of gloves designed for playing football in cold weather. Reebok made mine, but all the major sports brands have something similar. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
jjtroutbum Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 I wear wool fingerless gloves that have a pullover mitten. Also have the straight fingerless ones. If I am stripping line in cold weather. I'll sometimes were latex gloves underneath. Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. Ham Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 I use a pair of fingerless polar fleece. They were an Orvis brand I got on closeout. Simms sells something similar though. It is a tradeoff, but I can still fish in those. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Bman Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 I use the Simms WINDSTOPPER fleece with the open finger tips.Thin,a good feel, and warm.Works for me. The only good line is a tight line
Members Steve Dally Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 Windstopper _ expensive fleece but the best. Simms very good but youd expectme to say that. The killer on your fingers is getting wet then the evaporation etc from wind. Yep your fingers are going to get wet, expecially if your guiding trying to keep the clients warm. But the windstopper block the wind chill. Just wring the gloves out put em back on and away you go Cheers Steve Sign Up For The Mountain River Journal - our free weekly e-magazine/fishing report Remodelled Mountain River Fly Shop Web Store
Snow Fly Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 In cold weather :cold:I love the Simms gloves which have the fold over to make into a mitten. Another big help in the winter is to take along some hand warmer packs you can find at Wally World. Activate them stick in your coat pocket or wear them between the top of your hand and your glove. jjtroutbum Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Biggest trick I know is to keep thos gloves dry or have at least one pair as backups Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. taxidermist Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 I take several pairs of Jersey gloves. They are cheap and easy to find. Plus you dont loose anything if you have to cut a hook out.
