flyfshn Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Good point Dano....same issue with voting out judges during elections! Always fearful that you could get someone worse! Fish On! Project Healing Waters Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 The way I see it, focus on politicians and it's a contest of who spends the most money 95% of the time. Focus on the courts and...while money is a factor...it comes down to rules of evidence, facts, and legal principles (in a non-jury trial) 90% of the time. But politicians, by the very nature of politics, are corrupt. Where judges are elected, this muddies the water considerably...pun intended. http://www.projecthealingwaters.org
Daddy Carp Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 PHW - I agree with you on the politicians! Without getting into a political debate, it's just a matter of "whose ole yeller dog gets elected". As for the judicial, many judges are elected but just as many are appointed (part of the "good ole boys" concept sometimes. Most of the attnys. and advisors are appointed and often change with administrations....thus in line with political favors. I think it has been that way since self-appointment of Judge Roy Bean, LOL, we just hear about it faster and more widely now due to the media. Wish it were totaly electorate based on fact, law and truth! But I'm sure we both agree it's not but the best we got and subject to corrective actions. God Bless, Have a Good one..........D.C.
jscheetz Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Yep - the article mentions Atrazine as well - I have been following this and posted here about it - there is just too much money behind pollution to stop it - but I certainly agree with PHW - if enough of us send some $ to groups that fight against these entities it seems the best use of our resources. DC, your suggestion to put money into recalls?? Seems kind of like an extreme long shot to rally folks for that. Whereas if you look at a group like the Center for biological diversity - http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/swcbd/ Their legal methods have won many battles against those with no concern for the environment. So the legal methods work - it just takes a ton of money to keep it up. The prozac thing is also something I have read many accounts of - it first started showing up in bluegills in Texas - in surprisingly high amounts, seems the filtration systems don't do much to stop it at the sewage treatment level. But it all goes back to this - everything we do here effects something else. Daddy Carp Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 JS, you're probably right on the rally point. We can't even rally a few to show up for a court session in trying to replace or re-focus a "do nothing judge" in a city of 700, hate to think of that on a National & World level. It's the old law of physics......for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. You can almost verify the same law for society. If we just had Einstien back to guide them, Leonard and I are just to busy to do it! LOL LOL God Bless.....D.C.
crappiefisherman Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I caught some of those prozac bluegills before,,,,,,,,they fought hard but they really didnt give a hoot [ [
Daddy Carp Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 This was in the web news "hometown daily news" Since it is local, I figured some may be interested in reading the article. FYI: Pollution Suit Filed in Stone County 1/6/2008 by Greg Brock Missouri's Attorney General has filed a lawsuit to stop ongoing pollution problems from a motel near Lampe.
Trav Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Try bluegills on Viagra. They are always jumping the bait but they tend to complain about a headache. Haha "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
