Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 28, 2008 Root Admin Posted January 28, 2008 Duane- go ahead and post your report in total on the forum. The forum you're pointing to will not let anyone see your post unless they register which I think is poor. Thanks

duckydoty Posted January 28, 2008 Author Posted January 28, 2008 Started off fishing with a buddy at Lake Taneycomo last night at 8 p.m. and fished till about 3 a.m. Ran into Steve (Splfgradt) and his buddy Nathan and we all fished together up at the cable for a while. I ended up with 30 rainbows at 3 a.m. The bite was pretty good till the moon came up then it slowed for a bit until some cloud cover came in. White and black slump busters were working great for me. At 3 I took a little nap till the sun came up then headed for Roaring River. Knocked them dead there. My buddy, Randy and I both caught 4 rainbows apiece that were above 20 inches. I caught three of my pigs on a 5 inch T&A Rainbow and missed many many more. Those big fish woud charge the fly from all the way across the river. Many times I pulled the fly out of the fishes mouth and it would just become more aggressive. Fished there till about 2:30 this afternoon then headed to Crane Creek. This is Randy (motroutbum) landing one of his And here it is Another one of Randy's fish A couple of my big boys For those that dont know---Crane Creek is only one of 3 places in the world that still have the pure strian of McCloud trout. "Crane Creek flows through the town of Crane, Missouri and is notable for only one reason -- its trout fishery. Crane Creek is a part of the Missouri Department of Conservation's trout management program and is classified as a Blue Ribbon Trout Area. It is one of five wild trout management areas in the state that receive no supplemental stocking of hatchery-raised trout. Even more impressively, it is home to one of only three remaining populations of the pure-strain McCloud River rainbow trout -- even the McCloud River no longer has this strain of fish in residence. This creek was originally stocked in approximately 1890 by railroad workers. At that time, the railroads were commonly supplied with barrels of fish fingerlings and directed to seed stock waters that the railroads crossed. Clear spring-fed streams were to be stocked with rainbow trout, and many Ozarks streams received their first resident trout in just this fashion. As luck would have it, no additional stockings were ever to take place, nor would they be needed. Crane Creek has enjoyed some notoriety over the years, including articles published in well-known outdoor magazines and segments on sporting television shows. However, this publicity has not led to crowds of fishermen, largely due to the remoteness of the stream and the toughness of the fish. Even so, the creek has its share of devoted anglers who try their luck throughout the year, attempting to catch this truly rare trout which lives in a very small and rugged brook." Caught 3 of these wild little rascals and was completely thrilled. duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners

TroutBum4wt Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 That was a great report and thanks for showing the photos. The Crane Creek information was really good and motivating. I think I'll head there soon. I think Crane is one the best trout fisheries in the region or better. Hooking a McCloud of any size is a true thrill and accomplishment. Thanks again.
