I mainly spin fish. Started using 6 lb. years ago, kept breaking off...kept stepping it up over the years and throw 15 lb. test now and a super fast retrieve reel.

I've always used a pretty large barrel swivel...can run through a bunch of different plugs quick.

The way I fish I have never noticed catching less fish over the years...have landed alot of fish I would have lost on lesser line.

Spin fisherman should...

Get your waders on.

Head down to the big hole.

Wade out until the water is just about to pour over the top of your waders.

Cast as far as you can towards the far bank.

Take a big step forward.

Joking, sort of :P

We spin-fishermen dont wear waders. Just cut-offs and sandals. Wink

Don't overlook throwing flies with your spinning rig. It works pretty well. My kids have done that off and on and I used to as well. They caught a lot of fish doing that.

You just have to add a bobber or weighted float for weight. Tie your fly on. Then put a split shot 6 to 8 inches above the fly. I'd buy a few zebra midges, scuds, and wooly buggers and give it a try. Like one of the other members said - I would use 2lb test - you'll get a lot more hits with it than 4 or 6lb.

Good luck,

Greg

Nothing meant towards anyone...just an observation from years of fishing.

I don't understand the animosity shown amoung fisherman for differing styles and techniques of fishing...some of it is all in good fun but too often it's on a serious note.

We all are enjoying the same thing, being outdoors and enjoying a hobby we all love.

Even if it's not my style I will do my best to help anyone that needs a hand. Health issues have kept me from the water for a while now...while fishing the other day I was just thankful to be able to wade the river again. Sometimes we take things for granted...don't realize what you have till it's gone, can be just the smallest things.

I'll second Greg's suggestion for weighted bobbers. Definitely a good Idea for use in the middle of the day.

Find the smallest ones available and use light line 2 or 4 lb. Cast up stream and keep contact with the bobber using mends to try and get along drift past you and too keep drag off of your fly.

Good luck
