Trav Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Couldnt resist getting on the lake today. Something about snow and no wind just screamed Brownies. But only one brownie felt the same way. She was a fat one though. At 7-10 it came up like a log. Barely gave a fight. But hey, I am not complaining. In my brief quest for brownies I also picked up 4 bows. Only one went under 16 inches. the other three all hovered in the 16 to 18 range. Of course, when your using baits that are 5 inches long your not going to get very many dinks. Wich means your not going to catch alot of numbers either. But if you had to pic your poison..... All and all it was a pleasant 3 hours, then I got on OA to find that I could post this report on a designated forum just for the water I was fishing and it made my whole day. Seth Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Trav, I always thought that if I used a 5" stick bait that I wouldn't catch small trout either. They have proven me wrong just about everytime I've used that bait though LOL. Trout are worse than bass I think when it comes to trying to eat something that's way too big for them. Congrats on the brown. You really do need a camera to snap some pictures of these brutes. I believe that you do catch them, but seeing is believing and we all love big fish stories w/ pics the most.
Trav Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 I get plenty of dinks on big baits. I know exactly what your talking about. I have entertained buying some of those foot long tail swimmers that them boys in Cali are catching those monster bass with. I just cant justify spending 30 bucks on a lure. Some go as high as $45. I loose so many rigs as it is and with a fixed income, I try to budget as much as I can. Haha, I can squeeze a penny so thin that you can see through it. Wink. ryan Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Buy one and you wont be dissapointed. Try a king shad not too expensive but worth every penny.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 1, 2008 Root Admin Posted February 1, 2008 I got a bunch given to me by the former Castaic Baits owner- I'll share.
Trav Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 Why? When I can take an old spinnerbait and strip the skirt and apply a 3 to 5 inch sluggo. And if I want to bulk it up I can put a 6 inch trailer line and add a rattle trap or a lil george. Still gives the perception of something big with the added benifit of alot more hooks. If your gonna perpetrate a fraud you might as well make sure you have the hooks to succeed. I personally prefer tying multiple presentations together when jigging. Of course I can jig for hours and catch just one fish. But that one will be better than small sizing. And if I lose the rig I might only lose 10 bucks. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Trav Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 Phil, Save them for when we go fishing together. will be fun to see how they work. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
