patfish Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Dano, I grew up just across the interstate from Kirkwood and the Meacham Park area.... they used to cross the interstate on foot and rob houses and shoot people.... don't even get me started on this....
flyfishmaster Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 This city had had 3 major news stories in the last two year: The Michael Devlin kidnapping of Shawn Hornbeck & William Ben Ownby, the police office (William McEntee) was killed in July 2005, and now this mass killing. It is hard to comprehend that any one of these tragedies has all taken place in such a tight nit community. My prayers are with all the families involved. Kim Ahne aka: FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
flyfshn Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Dano, it is pretty sad. Kirkwood is approx 6 miles away and I attended a zoning meeting there a few years ago for work. The guy violated the city ordinance of operating a business (construction contactor) out of his home, owed $18k in tickets (city waived), sued the city and the supreme court (tried, lost/denied yesterday), disrupted city hall meetings, etc and his brother/mother says something to the effect that it was a long time coming, was discriminated against and they (city hall) were picking on him. He was involved in the city and served on the housing authority. Sad, very sad! Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Danoinark Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 I saw his brother on the tv...the brother seemed about the same caliber as the shooter... Told the TV person that the shooting was an act of war. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Bittle Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I am a police officer in the st louis area and have friends that work there. Both officers were great people and well respected. What a tragedy. Please tell an officer thanks next time you see one. Because these both left families behind for parking tickets. A routine day is never routine in this line of work. God be with their families. I won't even start on the shooter. Only one word for guys like that. Coward.
Danoinark Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 Well said Bittle. I work in community corrections and I see the products of so many dysfunctional families the general public would be amazed. What scares me there are so many people that have the same potential as the shooter in Kirkwood. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
flyfshn Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Bittle, thanks for all you do! I have a friend/neighbor who is a Kirkwood police officer and knew these two very well. Trav Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Do you think that guy has had his 15 seconds of shame yet? I agree with Bittle. One of my brothers is a Iowa State Trooper. Some the stories he has will blow your mind. I for one dont think that police get enough money. Or enough back up. It is sad that some of our municipal officers get paid less per hour than alot of the guys that flip our burgers. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
