Flysmallie Posted February 10, 2006 Author Posted February 10, 2006 I wonder if the snowflakes hitting the water makes those pea brains think there is this giant hatch happening? Dano I don't know, but I have been bass fishing a couple of times when it was sleeting and the fishing was unbelievable. I'm not talking a little sleet, more like an inch or more in the boat. I'm not sure what causes them to bite in these conditions, but if you can handle the cold, it's worth the effort.

I think that it does. I really think that the fish have no clue down there anyway. I satarted fishing right after the snow and was using a cream midge and it was great. Then I went to a Mohair Leech then back to the midge then back to the leech. I quit around 2:00 and had caught anround 45-50 fish it just seems that it does not ever matter what you have on. I think that you just need to be there and they will hit. To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Brian K. Shaffer Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 One of the SPGF DEPT guys (Jason) told me it was snowing good down there this morning, err.. Friday morning. 7am'ish or so.. he said was coming down a little.. I totally missed that as I was snoozing. But by 10am.. it was nice, a little brisk with the wind.. but still nice. I guess I did decent enough.. perhaps I caught my share as I expected. Dries are fooling fish like crazy I will try to make it down for the Saturday morning snow.. but i aint checked the weather yet.. and if you live here in Branson, you know - the weather forecasters are wrong more than they are right. best fishes - Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 It snowed here again this morning. I didn't count the flakes, but there were a few more than Thursday morning. I'd guess about a hundred. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
jdavis Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 I won't be able to get down until Sunday. How did everyone do in the trophy water today? If the conditions were like they were in Springfield it had to be good. Many People? Any big rainbows around?
Brian K. Shaffer Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 I am downtown, and at 3pm it started coming down like crazy. Then again at 4 it started as heavier snow than before then switched to a little sleet like snowball. They started to cover just a little bit - then it just quit. Very pretty snowflakes.. some of them very big.. perhaps quarter size in diamteter. They would hit the concrete and just shatter. I just wished we have gotten like 6 inches of it. Anybody get out in it today ?? screaming reels - Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

Enjoyed the fishing, did good with midges and an olive wooly. Had a nice brown inhale my indicator. Blew up on it pretty good, reminded me of a smallmouth attacking a popper. What size hook should you use on an indicator pattern?? Flysmallie.

Wayne SW/MO Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 While I'll admit I'm out of them, you can tie a wooly, extra thick with hackle, and grease it up and use it for an indicator. Its not unusual to catch a fish or two on it. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
