Members meversmann Posted March 3, 2008 Members Posted March 3, 2008 I work in St. Charles and stopped in friday at 5 to pick up some of this line and a couple other things. When i got to the counter to see the sign "SOLD OUT OF RIO LINE" I was a little upset. I asked them if they were going to get any more of it in and was told that probably this wednesday they would get another shipment. I was told that it was the same RIO gold line that they had on their shelf just packaged different especially for bass pro. They would not sell me the line they have on the shelf in the RIO packaging because they had different bar codes!!!! How can you run an ad and post it online without saying "Very LIMITED QUANTITIES!!!!!!" They would not write rain checks for it and then i called back today and was told that they would not be getting anymore of it in! Not much of a sale if only 15 people were able to get in on the deal. Also why was the limit 2 per person, if it was that limited they should have limited it to only one per customer! One more thing, i was told that it was not the line they had on the parking lot. This was "supposed" to be from the factory for BP

flyfishmaster Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 My friend need some new fly line. I told him not to get the stuff at BP because of the info on this forum. Well... He was at the Springfield bass Pro on Friday Feb 29 and pickup one of these packages of Rio Fly Line anyway. He brought it back to the cabin at BSSP and opened it up. The line is brand new. We looked at it from end to end and we found no flaws. He was told it was taken out of the box and just re-packed (in a ziplock type bag). He used it opening day at BSSP and had no issues with the line. So after seeing this line in action, I have to say it is great deal! Plus I like the idea of two different colors on each end of the double taper. He told me that on Friday, the Springfield store had plenty on hand. That may be a different story today. later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!

Fishmeister Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I was at the Spfld. store on Fri. around 2:00, and I asked about the rio line, guy behind the counter said they were out, imagine that, I asked if they were getting more in, he said no. After reading the posts on this site I figured that would be the case, but still had to satisfy my curiosity.
flyfshn Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 I arrived at BP in St. Charles at 6pm and saw the sign as well, Meversmann. The guy told me they received approx 60 packages and it was sold out by 10am. It did not say limited quanties or limit two in the add, but that is what the sign said on the counter. Was going to get one for one of the kids reel, but oh well. Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. patfish Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Not that I mean to corporate bash, but I think BP is a bunch of blood sucking Nazi's.
strangercreek Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 wow, how do you really feel? I guess I have a double standard, I don't mind doing business with big companies but I will never work for one again, just doesn't suit me
flyfishmaster Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Did it have the loop? No the line did not have loops, but BP did install a shock leader with a loop at no extra charge. Also, someone posted, that they arrived at 2 PM and were out. My friend was there at 11 AM. So I'm assuming the supplies were limited. Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
Members Midge Posted March 4, 2008 Members Posted March 4, 2008 You had to be there when the doors opened on Friday in springfield to get any. I got a 5 and 6 wt. Interestingly enough the 5wt did have a welded loop, but the 6wt did not. The line does look brand new, but it says that it is a demo line, which makes sense. You can find demo lines on ebay much cheaper than the new ones. While I don't agree with the way it was advertised, one phone call to BP got us all the info we needed. They told us when to show up to get some, and they were honest about the origin(demo line).
