I sold a Jackson Coosa to Gavin along with a nice Aquabound paddle on Friday and the depression set in pretty quick. I had a friend who was dealing with his own marital issues and decided I needed to go be with him and drink some beers and do some fishing. The problem is my wife is the part time president of a hospital here in St.Louis Saturday, Sunday and Monday's 14 hour shifts while she is finishing her clinical rounds during the week for becoming a nurse practitioner......so I am babysitter man to my beautiful daughter Emily practically 24/7.
So I packed up the truck and took Emily with me as my family sucks at helping me with sitting. We arrived in Lesterville and ate lunch at one of the coolest places to eat and people watch in the region IMO Lenny's
after lunch we ran over to my friends resort on the Black river and immediately saw the massive flotillas of drunks tipping canoes and chain smoking Liggetts all while chocking down Busch beer as fast as their obese bodies would allow. We met up with some dear friends and sat out on their beach and tried to counsel my buddy who is getting hosed by a woman right now. Then I had to do some fishing. With the droves of drunk flotillas I really wasn't expecting much butI had to try. I did see a few vacant beds which had fry around but, no parents. I fished one lure that is a dawg bait I have had painted specifically to my taste but, this pattern just flat out drives smallies nuts!!!
It was dink city but, I was able to catch over 30 fish even with canoes tipping virtually everywhere. I also am beyond impressed with the Gamakatzu Aaron Marten trebles....WOW they are good hooks. My daughter Emily was able to catch a smallie on topwater after I threw lure in the right spot for her and gave her the rod, she popped the Damiki like dad and caught a 7 inch smallie and almost let go of my rod into the river but, it was a priceless moment for us both.
Like I said it was dink city with only a hand full of fish over 13 inches and two over 14 but still fun. I'm kinda embarrassed that I took pics of fish so small but, WTH.
It was a great way to shake off the depression of selling off water crafts but, it had to be done as I just have accumulated too many. My daughter is quickly becoming an avid fishergirl as long as she doesn't have to handle the fish too much. We both had a great time and will be back soon, Fathers Day to be exact
