Looking to go to a different prop to help my hole shot and have a swim step added to my boat.  Anyone have a suggestion for a good place to take it for this work? These are not two things I feel comfortable doing myself.  I have a 17' Lowe deep vee that really needs a 90hp on it instead of a 60hp. Doing some research it seems a better suited prop should help without having to drill for a fin. Called the big Lowe dealer in Warsaw and they suggested exactly what my research had led to, but I got a lukewarm reception when asking about setting up to drop my boat off. Seems they are too busy to mess with my two things.

In that case it's unlikely that you can help your hole shot problem with a prop swap.   A prop that would help you get out of the hole faster is going to over-rev at WOT.

Is there a bar limiting downward trim movement?   IMG_20190225_142638075.jpg

If so can that bar be moved inward?  (Down)IMG_20190225_142612239.jpg

Or removed, so as to allow more negative trim angle?

There is not a bar that goes all the way across, but two plugs on each side that must do the same. They are both as low as they can go. My buddy has a similar boat size and motorwise. He bought his with a hydrofoil on it and doesn't have hole shot issues. Of course, no way to know if that would help me or not without drilling. Once I get up on plane can run 30mph, which is plenty for me. Just hate plowing for so long when I have more than one person in the boat or having to send everyone up front each time we take off

Thanks for your advice. Another issue is that this has the bigfoot lower unit and finding a hydrofoil to fit might not be easy. If memory serves, you have posted on here before that if you are going to move the motor to do it one notch at a time, correct? This motor is mounted as low as it can be, which I think is factory standard.

Run a straight line down the center of the hull with the motor trimmed down level.  See how far above/below that line the cavitation plate is sitting.

Your range of adjustment runs from 2" below to 2" above.  If it blows out on hard turns, during a hole shot, or when trimmed up and running WOT then you need to go down a hole.   I like them set as high as possible with no blowouts.

have you tried using a 4 blade prop?

i have seen several instances where a boat was having trouble getting on plane with a 3blade, swapped to a 4blade and time to plane was reduced
