  1. Wrench your killin me with the Charlie construction crew remark . Pat, the last time I was there they were staking out the walk way over from the bridge hole to the top side of the dam. I'm sure thats what was what you saw across the stream with the trailer and barricades. They tried last winter to fix the erosion from everyone walking through there. Maybe this time it will get fixed right. I remember sometime last year that they were talking about a handicap access or a sidewalk type of thing below that balcony in the old hatchery office next to the dam where the old rough poured concrete was. Maybe that is what you see next to the old hatchery outlet before the stone bridge. So it definately wasn't me since I'm still out here milking this stupid job in NC. It's getting pretty hard to hydroblast when it's 25 degrees. But I will be home around Xmas to do some fishing with the bro.
  2. Well I bailed on going fishing with the rediculous winds. Maybe it'll be better in December around Xmas.
  3. Looks like I get a small break from being on the road for a few days starting Turkey Day. I am heading to the stream while all the crazys are out shopping. Too bad its just for one day and then Sunday I gotta hit the road again back to my not so liked job in NC.
  4. Dang Kevin, I thought I traveled for work. You got me beat pretty good on distance. Now if you just had to stay there for 9 months.
  5. Yeah and don't forget the pementos. It makes all the world of difference.
  6. Hey Jerry, I sent you a PM with info on what was working a couple weeks ago.
  7. Pat I'm not a wuss. Just because I don't attack cicada killer wasps doesn't make me a wuss. LOL I will actually be home for turkey day and head back out to NC the following Sunday. Hopefully it isn't so cold that the line freezes in the guides while trying to cast. Heck standing in 55 degree water ain't to bad when its near freezing temps. Dennis I think we will be heading out to Hoover Dam the first Monday after the new year. I have always wanted to get down to that shindig. Maybe I can swing it if things work out. I will let you guys know as soon as I can.
  8. Wish I could make it Jerry. I'm leaving Thursday morming heading back to NC for about 6 weeks. Hopefully I'll be home for a few weeks after that before heading to Hoover Dam for the winter. If it works out maybe we can hook up in December and fish a little then if it ain't to brutal.
  9. Something tells me that he didn't get enough attention as a child. Sad, to say the least.
  10. Most of the paw paw trees I've seen are in creek bottoms or low lying areas. Didn't the OP say they were at the tops of ridges?? I have never seen them anywhere but in the bottoms.
  11. Certainly this can't possibly be true. All fish are caught fairly and by honorable fishermen. What could you possibly gain by cheating in a tournament??
  12. Wayne, I've heard great things about the triangle taper line. Only bad thing is I have only seen it in white color. I like dull neutral colors for my flylines. The DT to me is a do-all line. WF lines just never feel right on my softer action Winston's. On my BIIIX it does feel good though.
  13. Oh I almost forgot. Next time you see Britts ask him about cicada killer wasps. LOL
  14. Jerry, Glad you got out and had some fun anyway. Fishin was a little tuff at times but it was still a good time. Pat cooked up a good dinner Saturday eve and I'm not a catfish kinda guy but he did a darn good job with it and I actually liked his method of preparing it. We fished a little and shot the BS even more. Relaxed and had a good time before I headed home Wednesday afternoon. I finally figured out what the fish wanted Sunday evening and did pretty well. Most people I saw were struggling to catch fish with the conditions like it was. Low and slow. I'll have to catch you when I get back from NC for some winter fishing. I'm leaving Monday morning to go do another gate on the same dam we were working on. Probably take us couple of months so I'll be missing another bow season for deer. Oh well, I guess I could be unemployed. Take it easy, Rich
  15. Hopefully it's an empty campground and it won't matter. LOL
  16. Almost time!!! 1 week away and we'll be down for 5 days of fishing and relaxation. Hope to even meet a few new people this year. So far it looks pretty dry with the chance for some rain. Maybe they will lift the fire ban and campfires will be allowed. BBq grills are OK I think. I have been out of town before I got home for the last month and I really need some relaxing time on the stream. Work here has been more crazy than it was on the road. I should be there early Friday morning or maybe even Thursday night if things workout. I just need to pick up a new deep cycle battery for the camper and put it up and air it out. I'm trying to decide if I want an AGM or not and if it is worth the extra $$$. With the way things have been here lately I have not been able to use it much and the battery has taken some abuse in the maintenence dept. . Can't wait to wet a line and kick back in the CG and have a few drinks. Cheers.
  17. I sure hope we get some rain soon and enough of it so we can have a campfire. It's just not right camping without a campfire.
  18. I'm just razzin you a little about being cynical. I don't really know what happened from the time I was younger till present. I've been fishing Bennett since about 1969-70. When I was that young I couldn't remember that much to compare it too. I'm 47 now so it wasn't that long ago. LOL But with a lot of things, newer isn't always better. Maybe more effecient, but not better. The stocking of the stream is like a top secret mission now compared to when I followed the truck around on a bicycle to watch them stock the stream. I pretty much quit going there from about 1980-1989. So in that time it changed a bunch. Over the last 5 years is when I saw the most change though in fish quality. Maybe it's because I care about the place so much compared to back then. I get the feeling that some of the guys on here think some of us are complaining to hear ourselves complain. I know it is frustrating, but we are just along for the ride pretty much. If there was a way for our concerns to be heard it should be explored. I don't want Bennett to be a trophy trout area but I do want it to be a quality place like it used to be. It's a trout park and I understand that. Some states don't even have what we have so I guess we should be thankful for what we have. Just keep hoping.
  19. You cynical people kill me......LOL No really it will get better in time I hope.
  20. Cool, I'm going to be in the same spot in #4 as I always do. Hopefully the fishing is a little better. I mean the water levels anyway. That crystal clear water makes it tough, plus the flow is pretty slow. I need to start tying up some CB's and midges. I have a bunch of other stuff I bought from Blue Fly cafe. Now if I could just sell that darn Z-Axis.....LOL
  21. Some contractors shut down if it's over 100deg. I was there Friday and caught some decent fish actually for a change. It almost appears that they got some fish from Sheppard of the hills. They just look different. I know they were working Friday , while fishing below the high bank hole it was pretty annoying listening to the back up alarms and slamming of metal on concrete. I figure it's worth listening to if they get it done and get some fish growing.
  22. Obviously if the hatchery manager didn't listen to the people that care about the place then he doesn't care or someone above him over ruled him. Either way the people that care lose.
  23. Not all sight fisherman c&r. Bushacker comes to mind. With as many big fish as this man has caught he still keeps them. Why?? Just to show someone? If the fish is revived and swims off it will be good to go. If it goes belly up then keep it . Cameras do wonders.
  24. That is more of a problem of Montauk. I've seen it first hand there and told them about it. It's not fishing. Targeting a big fish and finding out what makes him bite is another story.
