The fishing was good is some places. I started the afternoon between outlet 1 and 2. I did catch a couple of fish up there and the water was not any lower than normal. There was a lot of fish up there but the were very sluggish. At about 5pm I moved down to Pointe Royale and the water was really low down there. There are a couple of really cool places to fish though. The fish are stacked in certain place and they were biting. I was using a 1/100th oz yellow egg. Most of the fish were small but a couple were around 17". I didn't see any browns but there were a lot of rainbows. I think the fishing will be great during the next few weeks during the low water.

Got My New Tfo Pro! Which 7Wt Floating Line?

I throw big streamers all the time with my royal wulff and have no problems casting at any distance. I cast small streamers to size 2 articulated and have no problem at all. -
Got My New Tfo Pro! Which 7Wt Floating Line?

Royal Wulff trianglt taper is the best weight forward line available. I have two client rods with rio gold and my personal rod has royal wulff. The royall wulff out casts the rio by far. -
Yes I work for the Lilleys' at Lilleys' Landing. I'm writing reports for the resort while Phil is gone.

I Need New Line And Maybe A New Rod
johndarin replied to TroutRinger's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
The best line out there I think is Royal Wulff triangle taper. It's great for casting distance and it's about $70. -
Fishing Report 8-16-2011 Fishing on Lake Taneycomo has been great this past week. The power generators have been left off most of the day and wade fishing has been possible. The U.S. Corps of Army Engineers has been running a little less than one generator either for just an hour or for a few hours in the afternoon. Table Rock Lake is down to 915.89 feet which is right at top power pool. This has allowed them to shut the generators off. In the trophy area, the fishing has been great. I have talked to Rick Licek and Steve Dickey who are professional guides. They are doing well with 1/100-ounce yellow and peach eggs and micro jigs in ginger and olive. They have said that there are as many fish up there as normal, but they are catching the ones that are there. I have also been catching the fish up there on the 1/100-ounce eggs and also #16 midges in rusty, black and black/silver. Below the trophy area there are a few more fish. They have been taking night crawlers very well and also white and orange Powerbait. A few guests who are staying here have also done well on spoons. I have done well on ginger-colored micro jigs, and sculpin- colored one-eighth ounce marabou jigs. Just below Fall Creek and right around Monkey Island have been the hot spots this week.

The past few days the US Army Corps of Engineers has been running generators from about noon to 10 pm and no generators the rest of the day. This has allowed some great wade fishing early in the morning. Midges and scuds will work most of the time in these conditions on 6x or 7x fluorocarbon tippet under an indicator. Most of the fish have been on midges in the middle of the water column in slow water. If you are fishing the fast water switch to a scud on the bottom. Two generators were turned on about 9 am this morning so I went up to the dam by boat and fished the south bank from the wire to the island and did very well. On the first few drifts egg patterns were working great. Then when the water was higher pink or cerise colored san juan worms just off the bottom were working great. Below Fall Creek jigs, worms, and Powerbait have been working great depending on how you want to fish. If you like a more active type of fishing you should fish jigs. Eighth ounce sculpin and sculpin/peach jigs have been working well along the banks and jigging them back to the boat. If you like a more relaxed type of fishing then drifting worms or Powerbait is the way for you to go.

Went out fishing this morning with my dad from about 8 until 12. We fished olive 1/8 oz jigs along the bluffs, mainly lookout, and also white marabou shad and a 1/100th oz egg. Most of the fish for me came on the olive jig up close to the bank at lookout. The fish are staying tight to the bank and some were still eating bugs off the top so a dry fly might still produce some fish but not very many. I think that most of the fish are over the drys. For my dad he was doing great on a white marabou shad dragging it on the bottom. The biggest fish of the day was a 20" rainbow on a 1/100th oz egg fly under a strike indicator just below outlet 3. We also caught some bluegill and 1 kentucky bass on the egg. I talked to a couple of other people that were fishing and they were using gray and brown scuds close to the bottom and doing well. There are a couple of new riffles that Phil has put some pics up of earlier this month and they would be great in 50mw generation to fish scuds. Here are a couple of fish from today!

Today my dad and I went fishing up by the wire and saw and caught many, many fish. We were using white, white/chartreuse, olive, black/chartreuse 1/8th oz jigs fishing the banks. We caught rainbows, kentucky bass, and crappie!! It didn't matter what color of those menchened above we used. The crappie we caught and saw were all between 12" and 16". The kentuckys' were between 1lb and 2.5lbs. We caught the majority of the crappie on the south side of the lake and just below the island. I did also use a Rapala X-Rap in the slack water and that's where I caught most of the bass. We did see some whites but didn't catch any. If you're wanting to catch some different species on taney now is the time. If your wanting to catch them on the fly you will have to get it close to the bottom. Next time I go I'm gonna try some clousers, and other streamers on sink tip line to help it get down in the current. Darin

There are a couple of new trees or something that were just under the top of the water on the flats at pointe royale. All I could see was the water rolling over the new structure right in the middle.

Sweet!! So they are still up there. I'll be up there tomorrow!!

I think my dad and I are going to. We will get our butts kick with the bass but oh well, it will still be great fun!

I will. I'll try to write something everyday I go but it doesn't always happen.

The flood gates are closed and 4 generators are still running as of 5pm on Wed. the 11. I went fishing around 3pm and went up to the dam. I was using a cerise san juan and caught about 10 fish on the outlet side of the lake. Most of the fish were caught at or just below outlet 3. My dad was useing a white 1/8oz jig at first and missed a couple and then switched to an olive and missed a couple more and caught 1 nice one about 19in. The fish are stacked just behind outlet 3 but the water is a little murky and a lot slower there.

I went up to the dam with my sister and brother-in-law at 4pm and they turned 2 generators on. Wading was out of the question. We went down to Lilleys' Landing and rented a G-3 bass boat and went up to just above fall creek. We fished a 1/100th oz egg under an indicator just off the bottom and immediatly started catching fish. In just about an hour and a half we caught 15 rainbows and lost a few more. We fished where the shallows dropped off to about 5 or 6 feet. Fishing was GREAT!

First you should see how many generators are running before you go. If the water is off then you need to go up top between outlet one and two, there is a little channel starting about even with the top of the island in the middle, a lot of fish hang out there. You will need at least 6x flourocarbon tippit, you might be able to get away with 5x, if the water is off. If the water is on you really need to be in a boat and drift san juans, scuds, and jigs. If you need to rent a boat Lilleys' Landing has some to rent. If you want to check out a report, I poseted one on here and there are some on my website ozarkflies.com.

Today my wife and I took out one of the bass boats from Lilleys' Landing and fished for about 2.5 hours. She was using a spinning rod with 6lb mono with about 5 feet of 5x(5lb) flourocarbon tippit. This worked great she caught about 6 or 7 real quick but wanted to swith to a fly rod. On the spinning rod we had a 1/100oz ginger marabou jig under a float with a split shot to help with casting. I was using a fly rod also with 5x(5lb) flourocarbon tippit. I was fishing a 1/100oz yellow egg under a stick on indicator just off or right on the bottom. All together we caught about 20 fish with the biggest one about 17 inches. One big hindrance was the wind, if we didn't have a trolling motor there would have been no fishing.

Thank you Phil for letting us use the room at your resort and thanks Jeremy for teaching the class. I liked the class and will come to all the classes I can.
