  1. Hey, 62! Our home base is Papillion, NE. but we hang out @ Stockton. Welcome and fishing with the grandkids is fun.....as long as the attention span holds out!
  2. [......... Boy Scout river trips around here.] Literally? I was a Scout Master for years. Both of my boys are Eagles. Some of the best time spent with them. A lot of my own personal friends today are from those years.
  3. [.......... Kinda hate to leave this good fishing.] Geez, Jim, cry me a river. I'm jealous! Have fun in Canada, where are you going? We go to Slim's Cabins up past Flin Flon. Heck of a drive but the fishing is great. And talk about quiet. You might see 6 boats on the entire river system which stretches about 40 miles with many off-shoots. 'Bout due for one of those trips. Haven't been up there since 9-11.
  4. The one we saw was a motorized yacht. Wasn't making much of a wake. As we crossed the bridge looking towards the dam it was coming out of the bay to the northwest. Very nice boat. Know what you mean about the cigar boats. When we researched lakes to see which one to buy a house at, Pomme had some yeahoo in a cigar boat doing his idiotic speed run and LOZ was insufferable.
  5. We were at Stockton a couple of weeks back and saw a huge yacht (not a house boat) by the 215 bridge, had to be pushing 60'+, looked like 3 levels, and an enclosed rear. Where in the heck do they harbor the big boats on Stockton? How big do they get? This is our first serious season on Stockton. We've seen large sailing vessels but we were surprised to see this one.
  6. [ .........Never again.] Isn't that the truth!? The wife and I decided to stay off of the water this weekend. Got the itch anyway and ran up to a little lake in Iowa. I'll be darn if in the middle of this little lake 3 boats and 12+ pwc hadn't tied up and made their own little 'party cove'. Every now and then a couple of the pwc would zoom down the lake and go back to their loudmouth group. Annoying at best. Even back on what I would consider the fishing side of the lake the sob's would zoom in close. Rather than not try to pizz everyone off it's like they go out of their way to do exactly that.
  7. Welcome! We're new to Missouri also (we actually live close to Omaha) although Stockton is where my wife and I hang out. On our long weekend trips we fish the lake a few days and road trip. Furthest south we've been so far is Springfield. It's an adventure so far. As my grandson says...."Grandpa we need to pizzpate!" (that would be participate for those that don't talk grandkid)
  8. Here's what I found.... http://www.kansascity.com/2010/05/19/1957829/elevated-e-coli-levels-to-delay.html
  9. My wife and I are for the most part, catch and release. Our children however like to eat what they catch. A few weeks ago we went out with a Stockton Lake guide and did very well in the 'catch' department. The large fish of the evening was a good size bass (it was the only bass caught) that my oldest boy caught. Our guide didn't say much but I could tell he wasn't happy with the bass going into the livewell. Being that there are so many diverse thoughts on c&r it might behoove the guides to state their preference beforehand. But to repeat someone's thought from above, when we got back to the house everyone pitched in to get dinner ready. From cleaning the fish, prepping potatoes and veggies, to dropping the fish into the fryer, our 4 1/2 year old grandson was right in the middle of everything. He wanted his chair put on the tailgate of my pickup (beautiful evening so we did everything in the garage) so that he could be close to the cooker and sample the food. It did my heart good just to see another generation having fun with the whole process.......including eating the fish. I will not condemn my grandson if someday he too decides to keep a big one.

    Howdy

...........Having to relearn alot as my memory is fairly short these days I resemble that! Welcome, it all comes back to you, sorta.
  11. Headed to Stockton for the weekend so........... 1. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet that on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Light than Kay. 2. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger. 3. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. 4. Even when opportunity knocks, you still have to get up off your butt and open the door.
  12. I don't think you'd want to try to deal/approach them in any way shape or form..... We have an apartment building. One evening I was over there doing some work on the outside of the building. I caught a wiff of what smelled like starter fluid, couldn't quite place it. A little while later this guy comes walking very quickly down the alley into our yard. He's talking in tongues, gesturing wildly. I get off of the scaffold to see if I could help him. He reeked of a chemical smell and his eyes, I kid you not, were so large that I thought they would blow up. About that time 3 cops come running up on the guy and tackle him to the ground. It happened so fast but it took everything the cops had to subdue this guy. He fought like a caged wildcat. A squad car blows into my backyard and those 2 cops made the incident quickly end. The guy and his girlfriend had set up a cooker in the dumpster behind another building down the street. They weren't even living in the area. Point being, alone there is no way most of us could deal with someone like that, short of shooting them.
  13. Thanks for the heads up, redbud.
  14. Very good point. We have a small farm in Iowa that we are developing for recreational purposes (hopefully by the time my wife and I pass it will be established for the grandkids....but I digress). It sits about 1000' feet off of the Missouri and is adjacent to state land. One weekend about 5 years ago my wife and I head up to the farm for some r & r. As we pull into the yard I can see all kinds of tire tracks out behind the barn, heading towards the river......"What the heck??" About that time the neighbor comes over on his atv. One of his passions is long bow hunting. The week before he had been scouting areas on the state land and had discovered a working meth lab. He high tailed it out of there and called the sheriff. Where the neighbor had found the lab was kind of land locked so the cops drove through our property to get as close as possible for the disposal team. Apparently they had been using the spot for awhile because the land was scorched and remains so. It changed our outlook on being in the country. Our land is very close to where Lewis and Clark had an encampment. We enjoy imagining the simplicity of those days and their travels. Contrast that to some meth head cooking his concoction and it has left me very disappointed in some of my fellow men. The sheriff said to call him if we see any suspicious activity. Anymore if I see headlights down by the river late at night I wonder if it's some kid trying to hit on his girlfriend or some crack head......to call or not to call.
  15. Good Lord, why? It must be something strong to react that quickly. Any idea what other wildlife is affected?
  16. Trav, You are absolutely on target, I've been doing that for years. My son has gone full time on his own doing remodels for us and is building a decent clientele off of the people who buy our homes due to the quality of his work. Real estate has always been a decent investment but once again you need to know what you're doing.
  17. I like to buy stocks of companies that I believe in and use. That puts Coke, Proctor & Gamble, etc. in ones portfolio. Most of those companies would work with the buy and hold scenario. For the riskier stocks I subscribe to the Motley Fool, a news letter that covers those type of stocks. They do the research and recommend accordingly. Have patience, study and accept the downs as well as the ups.....or find a trader you can trust.
  18. Other than possible ramp or lake fees you should be good.
  19. Sweet. We have an Alumacraft and love it. Do those 2 Humminbirds link? That's the next thing I want to do to ours is get rid of the Lowrance on the trolling motor and replace it with another Humminbird so I can link it with my console. I've broken 2 transducers on the trolling motor and if I keep doing that it will get as expensive as a new unit.

    Hello

Welcome, smallie! As you know good folks with good info on this site. I'm into fishing off of craft with live wells so I can't help you on the float or wading aspects. But it's all good my friend!!
  21. Sorry, can't help you on the leeches but to one 'Yankee' from another, a quick story about leeches- Several years ago 8 of us headed up to Canada. Leeches, or any live bait, at that time could not be brought into Canada. The one guy that was with us was the brother-in-law of one of my better friends, also on the trip. None of us knew the 'new guy' that well. He had been in on some of the planning sessions but beyond that he seemed a little high strung, too organized, didn't drink at all and wasn't that fond of fish. He had heard that our prior trip had been a blast and his wife insisted he go and have some fun. Anyways, unknown to most of us his brother-in-law, our buddy, had hid some leeches in their boat. We get to the border and the agent asks for declarations. Everything went well until the new guy blurts out......"We have leeches." Game on. Their truck/boat got pulled over and searched. Leeches were bad enough but during the search our buddy who was a cop has his luggage searched. He was on the SWAT team at that time. The one bag he had with him he had dumped his SWAT gear out of before we left and had packed a rainsuit and sweats. They flip the bag over and out rolls a live round of whatever caliber his long gun is. Holy mackeral, you think the Canada agents were PO'd before?? 3 /2 hours later they let us get back on the road. We can laugh about it now but we darn near didn't make it into Canada then.

    Hi

    Welcome!
  23. Cool! I'll look at the videos when I get home from work tonight. We're doing that in Iowa (Mondamin). We have 30 acres that we're slowly returning to grasses. The weeds have been a problem but I think after this year we might have the upper hand on that situation. The pheasants have been making their presence known the last couple of months so I'm thinking we're on the right track.
  24. Three buddies were sitting in a bar talking about the amount of control they had in their marriages. Two of them had been talking constantly while the third remained quiet for the most part. After awhile one of the talkative ones said to the quiet one....."What about you? What kind of control do you have over your wife?" The third guy says, "Well, I'll tell you. Just the other night my wife came to me on her hands and knees." The other two guys were pretty amazed. "Wow! What happened then?" they asked. The third guy takes a long drink of his beer, slowly puts the glass on the table, sighs and says.........."She said, "Get out from under the bed you chicken and fight like a man!"
  25. Slider window?...........'course with a belt size like mine that ain't happening anymore.
