  1. Mud it up to take the sheen off of the material and use vegetation from the area your hunting to brush it in with.
  2. Thanks for sharing the great memories ?Mitch. Reminds of a couple times hunting/boating in the fog on lower Taneycomo. One time in particular had a new guy with me that had never duck hunted. Pre-dawn boat ride, pre GPS aswell, on a 3 mile trip up lake when we hit the fog bank. Told the guy as long as I could see the hillside outline on the right side bank we were good. The look on his face, at least what I could make out as I couldn't see the front of the boat ;), when I said "OH Sh#!, where'd the bank go?" was priceless. What should of been a 10-15 min trip turned into an hour somehow getting turned around and ended up back at the ramp. Decided to wait it out for the fog burn off some still ended up having a good with 2 limits of gaddies.
  3. https://extra.mdc.mo.gov/cgi-bin/mdcdevpub/apps/wtrfwl/main.cgi Think link should take you the map for MDC'S managed waterfowl areas. Click on the number for the duck park you want to check out and it will give you the draw time and their current stats. Looks like draw times for Schell and 4R's is 5:15am.
  4. Southwest. Your welcome and you to. To answer your question a little more specifically those birds were shot hunting a farm pond in Greene County.
  5. Other than teal season and one boat ride to watch a sunrise this was the pups first big duck hunt. Got some work to do on lining and casting drills in the water but other than that I was pleased with her performance. had our chance a few times to limit out but 2 of us could only manage 11 total, 1 greenhead, 2 drake ringers, 2 drake sawbills, 3 drake and 3 hen gaddies. Waited til 1130 for the black feet to show as they've been frequenting the area and they never did. All in All a awsome hunt with a good friend.
  6. Great stuff as usual BH.
  7. Congrats. More birds on that tailgate than I've seen down here so far this season. Need some snow and freezing up north .
  8. Congrats on a awsome hunt even if the weather wasn't perfect. Thought the weather was perfect for a hunt last week during the cold front that pushed thru and never had a bird work other than the grebe that swam in and a few gulls.
  9. Welcome Buck. One of my boys hunted the area down lake from RB yesterday and pretty much mirrored your report. The other boy hunted BC this morning with a couple buddies in the deluge and scratched 7 greenheads between them.
  10. Great information all around. I used to be the guy that thought you had to have the big spread 10 to 12 dozen dekes (and more if a buddy brought his) and 3 plus mojos to pull birds, especially at the Duckland waterfowl parks but after a few years of throwing and picking up that many I down sized drastically. I only own 35 or so, 22 mallards (different head positions), a dozen gwt, and a few gaddies. Oh and a couple pink flamingos ;). All Texas rigged with about four ft of clear blue weed eater line and bell sinkers that I found at a garage sale. The teal are actually weighted with chain links ;). Also keep a Jerk line in the bag that I half hitch a few of the dekes to attached a bungee cord anchored to a pole when there's no wind or current. I don't build permanent blinds just use wat's available where I'm hunting mainly because i never know where the water levels will be each year but also like to be mobile. Have taken several bird just sitting on a bucket next to a tree or in the weeds. Concealment is good but movement is key, birds working, don't move. You can read all the comments and do all reaserch and apply everything you've learned and the birds will do the exact opposite. Best way to get into it and learn is just to get out there. Keep an open mind and have fun.
  11. Probably won't get out til next Tuesday by the looks of it with work and being at the inlaws for Thanksgiving.
  12. Congrats BH. I'd be happy to see a mature deer. Seen several young bucks just being picky but that may change the closer we get to SZ duck season ;).
  13. Good stuff. Had a bwt do that to me but he kept on going leaving the yella dawg with a puzzled looked on her face.
  14. Been hearing snows flying the last couple days so would guess there's been at least a small push of birds. Don't goose hunt myself but have seen a small flock of 20 or so local Canada's the last 2 trips I went out teal hunting.
  15. Awsome report BH. Frog legs and teal, mighty fine eating right there mmmmm.
  16. Congrats rfisherk. Great pic.
  17. Go back to work tonight so I doubt I make it out this weekend. Been an awsome teal season for myself. Unfortunately finished the exact opposite from the way it started but I'm not complaining. Knew after yesterday's hunt that it might be slim pickins. Decided to sit on the same flat that I did opening day and the only thing flying was shore birds. Little boogers almost fooled me at one point (video). Came in out of nowhere when I wasn't looking and landed on the shore 10 yds in front. Still a good morning to be out non the less.
  18. The black dawg has just come out of heat and still maybe pushing it alil if I was to take her out, just not wanting to push my luck and patience of the pup being distracted by the black dawgs essence she putting off
  19. Thanks BH. Alot of that is using the filters on instagram. But on the flip side of that I have been superseded at the number of mature bwt I've shot this year. Usually shoot mostly juveniles that are smaller and haven't developed much on the wing spectrums. Be nice if the males would stick around long enough to plume out while here. Think the bwt and gwt drakes are some of the best looking when fully plumed.
  20. Very few birds today compared to yesterday, I had my chance to limit but could only manage 4. Flock of 15 in the dekes at 0730, jump em up, 3 shots 3 down. Didn't see another bird til almost 1000 when I was getting gear together to leave and had already taken pics of the first 3 when 3 buzz over me while i was putting the camera in the bag. Picked up the gun and dropped one and couldn't connect on the other 2 as they swang back thru for a second look. Great morning to be out with the yella dawg. This may have been my last teal hunt of the season as I got to go back to work tomorrow afternoon but then again I may take the black dawg out since I've neglected her by taking yella pup recently; ).
  21. Another great post BH. Trash is and always has been one of my pet peeves. Raised to always leave a area better than you found it if possible. Pack it in pack it out. Usually have a couple Walmart bags in my gear bag for trash. I can understand the stray empty hull that gets overlooked wrappers, cups, etc etc???????????
  22. Got off work at 0600 this morning and didn't expect a whole lot if any teal to be around after Sundays report but thought I'd give it a shot anyways. Get set up by 0650 and by 0700 I've got a flock coming in (video). 3 shots 1 down. Tried to be a little more selective trying to pick out singles away from the main group. An hour until the next 5 come in and drop 3 out that group. Ended up loosing one in the timber across the field that the dawg or I couldn't find after a 15 minute search. About another hour passes before the next group of 4 swing in and managed to put 2 down with 3 shots. Called it a day and considered it another limit. Didn't see a bunch but what I did see worked the dekes awsome giving me a couple good swings before committing. Been up since 3pm yesterday so I'm off to bed.
  23. Congrats on a awsome hunt. Good lookin pup you got there.
