  1. This makes a lot of sense since my tippet is constantly twisted. Every few casts I check my fly and sure enough, the fly dangles there spinning like a carnival ride.
  2. No
  3. Good advice I will have to take into consideration. I've been using size 8 buggers with 5X tippet. I've thought about going up to 4X but I'm not sure if the fish will be turned off by that size tippet or not. I can't afford flouro right now. One thing that I have done is clipped the tails a little shorter. Not sure if this is the cause or not, but I do get less fouling that way (maybe.) I finished the day today with a size 10 bugger on that same 5X and the fly didn't foul up once. Of course it had a smaller bead head too. I'm definitely going to try your suggestions tho.
  4. I've been having a problem lately where my leader tippet is getting fouled up on my woolybugger tails. Does anyone know what causes this and possibly have a solution?
  5. The one thing I have noticed with Hummingbird is that the screens are hard to see with polarized glasses. Never had a problem like that with Lowrance/Eagle. Of course I haven't looked at a Hummingbird in several years. Have they fixed this problem yet?
  6. I love Arkansas fishing. Mountain Home is centrally located to a lot of great places to fish. I just started trout fishing about 3 weeks ago and I'm hooked. Been doing a lot better at trout fishing than smallmouth fishing. We'll have to wait till spring to see if I can still catch smallies.
  7. Sorry I gave away one of your favorite spots. No, wait. You just did.
  8. Be my guest. I ain't walking up that far again until next spring.
  9. Got to Norfork below the dam this AM. Still dark out, started casting from the boat launch. Hooked a very nice brown that had to be all of 20" if it was an inch. Lost it about 3 feet from me. Darned barbless hooks. When the sun finally came up, I checked the thermometer. I knew it was cold cuz I could barely feel my fingers. It was 48° F. Tonight it's supposed to drop to 50° F. Gonna be on that boat launch tomorrow with my 7wt and gloves.
  10. Go north and cast those Mickey Finns for northern pike. They love 'em. Just be sure to use a wire bite tippet. In fact I used to epoxy the bodies of my MFinns. Tie 'em on size 2 or larger hooks, get out the 9wt, cast them into a known pike holes and hold on.
  11. Well, I'm glad I found this site. Met several people interested in fishing here, and hope to meet many more. Thanks for the great job Phil.
  12. This is a pic of the railroad trestle crossing Crooked Creek just above the Snow, AR access.
  13. I've never noticed any correlation between catch rates on best days or worst days according to those tables. I think the weather and water conditions have more of a role in the fish biting or not. Cold front moves through and the fishing gets tough. Rising or falling water will also create new challenges to the norm of fishing. Water clarity will also have more effect on the challenge. If you believe in those Solunar tables, all the more to ya. I don't.
  14. It's the shape of the crankbait that determines the action of the lure. Short fat cranks have a wide wobble while long narrow cranks have a tighter wobble. A big wide bill will also create a wide wobble while a narrow bill will create a tighter wobble.
  15. Simms Freestone waders: $200 Minus BP Gift card....: -$75 Final cost of waders..: $125 What more do you want? A pair of Hodgemans would cost you that much. Do it!!
  16. I went to the Snow access today. Just one other perosn there fishing. I started with my fly rod and swithched to my spinning rod when my leader got too short and I realized I didn't have any tippet material with me. Fishing flies, cranks, jigs and spinnerbaits yeilded me one sunfish and one rock bass. Water was way down and COLD. Water temp was 66° F. @ 10:00 am. I left and went to the White River @ Cotter and landed 5 out of 8 trout hooked. Much better fishing when the water starts turning cold. If you're planning on floating Crooked Creek now, bring a dolly for that camoe. Will make dragging a lot easier. Water level is down quite a bit.
  17. Since they are going to be generating on the White and Norfork, I was planning on going to Crooked Creek tomorrow. I could either go to Pyatt or Snow. I'll let you know how the fishing/water is when I get back.
  18. The angle of retrieve from front to back of the boat could have made all the difference too.
  19. My go to bait is usually a large beetle-spin with a curled tail grub. Cast quartering down or across and hold on.
  20. So did I. That's why I put the there in my post. But it was still a smart-butt remark. Maybe that's why I liked it?
  21. glad to know I'm not the only donkey that got sent to school.
  22. There is a link to order catalogs at the BassPro.com website. I never had a problem getting catalogs this way. Unless your mailman likes keeping them for himself.
  23. I don't use a bandana. I have seen those face scarves though. Supposedly they are designed to help keep you cool out on the salt flats too. I don't think a bandana would do that. Different material.
  24. I'll drink at any party. Hell, I'll drink to anything and start a party.
  25. You know, that is one thing I don't get around here. Even the county fairs run Thursday to Saturday. Who takes off of work to go to a county fair on Thursday?
