  1. First of all, why did they find an Atlantic salmon in the Pacific Ocean? Did it swim there from the Atlantic (which I seriously dobt)? Or did it escape from a farm pen located in a river? Why can't they raise them (farm fish) in pens like the feds and state do to raise hatchery fish? Next to the water maybe, but not in pens IN the water? This would pretty much eliminate the possibility of escape into our waters and cross breeding with wild fish (which there are very few left of thanks to stocking efforts.) Or just plain wreaking havoc like the asian carp?
  2. I take it you don't watch science fiction/horror movies. If you did, you would know what could eventually happen with this genetic engineering crap. Sure they're just Hollywood movies gone gonzo, but then again, Hollywood movies also showed man walking on the moon in a day and time when it was thought to be totally impossible. Genetic engineering can lead to no good or it can be used to help us, such as stem cell research. Either way, we'd have to be able to carefully monitor any and all genetic engineering. Wouldn't want 60 foot salmon walking the streets eating us now do we?
  3. Not fly fishing, but this is nuts.
  4. The cashier.
  5. Never thought of using Rain-X on the paddles, but if the water drips right off, I think I might try it. Then again, I have a sot kayak so I get wet no matter what I do.
  6. South Fork of the Spring River. Better to go when "borderline too high" than any other time. I will NEVER float that stretch again. Come to think of it, the next stretch didn't look too promising either. There were a few short shoals with loooooong sloooooooooow pools. Most of it was just a weed choked, timber ridden too many overhanging branches to get a decent cast, miserable mess of a stream. Maybe if the water was a foot higher and it was earlier in the year????? Gotmuddy has caught a lot of smallies and largemouth on the rivers with that lure. It broke on him yesterday. Caught a smallie of about 14" and the wire joining the separate joints broke leaving the head of the lure attached to his line and the rest of the lure in the fishes face. I thought about getting me some of them, but he said they cost $15 each, and after seeing that thing break... Nice action on those lures though. Nice paint job too. But they should probably use a better system of joining the separate pieces.
  7. He calls me "spiderman" cuz I hate those freaking little things. And there were spiderwebs stretched across the whole stream in some places. Every freaking tree branch we had to duck under had webs galore in them. And I mean WEBS. Things were thicker than the line on my reels!!! Nothing worse than spiders than their stupid webs stuck to your face when you're trying to fish or paddle a canoe through a narrow weed choked, log riddeled ditch.
  8. Me thinks that is just one dark colored smallie. And most of that "river" was no more than a drainage ditch wide.
  9. Actually, I'm looking for a little rain to raise the water levels a bit on Crooked Creek.
  10. Happy Birthday Phil!
  11. I intend to make a showing if just to check it out. Where can I find more info on this?
  12. Here is a list of states that have right to fish and hunt amenments pending or have passed. You can click on the bill for your state to se what is being done and how to support it. Right To Hunt and Fish Laws
  13. When the fish are biting is the best time of year.
  14. Flytyer57 solo kayak unless gotmuddy comes along and we use his canoe plastic spoons, hot sauce
  15. Okay, I watched the videos after checking out the pics. Those are char. Nice videos too. Hope you don't mind if I took a few snapshots of the videos for my wallpaper. That looked like a fun trip. Now I want to go, even if I do hate the cold. What did the temps get down to at night?
  16. Totally nice pics. Couldn't tell if those were sea run brookies or char. Either way, those pics just reminded me of why I'm glad I moved away from WI. I hate the cold.
  17. On the rocks at the very back end of the Pigeon Creek arm of Lake Norfork. The Hwy 201 bridge is just barely visible just below the horizon in this pic.
  18. Here's just another pic I took with the phone tonight while out fishing.
  19. Just tell her the bathroom is behind that tree over yonder, and the running water is in the riverbed.
  20. Maybe the fishing below Norfork dam is different, but yesterday I just tied on a black woolybugger and went to fishing. Caught at least 50 fish on the same black bugger from a stretch no more than 50 yards. But then, the Norfork is loaded with stockers. Maybe if I had been somewhere like the Madison, Bighorn, Frying Pan, Yellwostone etc, it might be different. Same goes for Crooked Creek. Tie on a bugger, Clouser or Gurgeler, wade in and start catching fish. I always pay attention to what's going on in the water when I'm fishing, and notice the water as soon as I arrive, but I don't wait an hour looking for bugs to come off. I guess if the fish aren't biting what I'm offering, then I'll slow down and try to figure out what's going on, but I don't run into that very often. Usually when the water is stained from rain or snowmelt, or the water is cold. But then, if you want to sit on the bank and watch me catch fish while you try to figure out what's gonna work for you...
  21. Looks like it maybe came form the transom that finally fell off your avatar.
  22. If I am not mistaken, the reason WI added the ammendment to the state constitution is because PETA was starting to harrass hunters and fisherman. They were actually following hunters into the woods and purposely making noise etc. to ruin the hunt. Imagine a group of PETA freaks out splashing in the water where you wish to fish and them having every right to do so. With an ammendment to the constitution, they are barred from harrassing hunters and fishermen while in their pursuit of game.
  23. A lot of those fish can be caught in the Mississippi River anywhere from it's headwaters in Minnesota to it's drainage in Louisiana. Get out the canoe and plan for one hell of a long float trip.
  24. The fishing was ok. We caught a couple of 18" smallies along with several in the 14-16" range. Of course there were a lot of smaller ones too that put up a nice fight in the higher waters. You can check out gotmuddy's post of the float here.
