  1. Walk, take a bus, have the wife, kid, neighbor drop you off, rent a car in town and use the airport as a dropoff site.
  2. Yeah. That's why I'm just gonna stick to a store bought tapered leader. I'd rather spend my time fishing than pulling my hair out.
  3. One very big difference. Fishing and hunting here in the US is legal. Still the Japanese should not be killing whales for whatevwer reason they want to use as a guise, and the fanatics should not be getting that close to the Japanese ships. Do what they can to disrupt their efforts, but do not try boarding their vessels and putting your own life in danger. Martyrs are not self inflicted.
  4. Thanks. I'll have to remember that the next time I go out. Normally with bait, I would just chuck it out in the river above a good looking area and hope the cats are out searching for food. That usually worked. With a fly, I'll have to get downright personal with them and put the fly in their living rooms. Hopefully I will get my first cat on the fly soon. Of course, I don't live anywhere near the Miss or the Mo, so I'll just have to find someplace here in AR that has good cats. Anybody got any tips on locations for north central AR catfising?
  5. Would furling be like, twisting the mono tightly and then folding it in half back over itself and letting it twist together?
  6. I have seen articles on the www about using that pink foam for rebuilding boats. They used it in the floors of aluminum boats to add noise cancellation and bouyancy. Should work pretty good.
  7. Make sure the foam you use is "waterproof." There are a lot of foams out there that will not hold up to water and will not give any type of flotation. I would imagine an expandable poly-urethane foam should work pretty good.
  8. Thanks for the info. I was over to the Norfork Wildlife Management Area Bennett Bayou east of Mountain Home earlier today. This is supposed to be public property, but the fences go right up to the bridges. There is private property along the Bennett Creek area, and I can see people not wanting their animals to get out on the highway, but running up to the bridge? Does not the AGFC care if these people are stealing state land? I guess I'm gonna have to take your advice and call the AGFC to find out what's what.
  9. Ok. Catfish on the fly. Maybe I missed it, but where are you catching these? I'd love to get a cat on the fly. I've fly fished many a river where I normally caught cats on the baitcaster, but never on the fly. Any tips on how you are doing this?
  10. Sure would be nice to know how a lot of places get named. "Snake River, Idaho." What did someone come up to a river and see a snake so they called it "Snake River?" Would be interesting indeed to know a lot of this info.
  11. I was just wondering if anybody knows what the access rights are here in Arkansas. Back in Wisconsin, I could pull up to a bridge, park the car on the shouilder of the road and legally access the creek, river, whatever from the road right of way. There was usually enough room to pull the car over safely and do that. Here in Arkansas, and Missouri is just as bad, there really is no sholder on the roads. Some places do have grass right up to the road, but no real shoulder. Is there a road right of way or easment along the highways down here that people can access fishing spots? But then again, property owners own the streambed so we probably can't legally fish anyway. Any input on this would be appreciated.
  12. Reminds me of the time we were riding around with a friend in his Camaro. Pulled into a gas station and some kid made a comment about the freinds pink shirt. Friend got out the car and asked the kid if he had a problem. Kid sees the size of friend and whimpers back into his car and drives away.
  13. Is it worth it if the superglue sticks your fingers together?
  14. Are "Cookies" enabled? Most reasons for not being able to log on is because of those dreaded cookies.
  15. I'm gonna celebrate my faith in catching a fish or two tomorrow. But thanks. Happy Easter to you too.
  16. I would have to call that catfish "DINNER."
  17. I haven't been out in a couple of weeks. I've been watching the guages at Crooked and the Buffalo. After the last rain, the Bufalo was coming down a lot faster. Now they are both up again and it looks like it will be a while before they are both wadable again.
  18. Started raining here about 6:30 or so and hasn't really stopped. Let up some and then came down good again for a while, off and on kinda stuff. Check the guage before ya go.
  19. With the amount of rain we're getting here in Mountain Home, I would think that Crooked Creek is going to be raging torrent come morning. If you go, lotsaluck.
  20. Was ya gonna say somethin' Leo?
  21. How? I usually say the fishing was bad if I didn't catch anything.
  22. I have 3 rods. A 5wt, 7wt, and a 9wt. For smallies, I usually use the 7wt. Occasionally I'll use the 5wt if I'm catching a lot of dinks and panfish. If I'm throwing big poppers for largemouth, I use the 9wt. Yeah, the nine is a little overkill. If I could have afforded it, I would have bought an 8wt too. I bought the 9wt primarily for northern pike, muskie, steelhead, salmon etc.
  23. Ok. I will admit, that someone acting like Mike Iacanelli (spelling?) out on the water would bother me. I too like the solitude. Sure, if I catch a large fish, I get excited, but I try to keep my feelings to myself. I've even gone so far as to turn my back to others so they couldn't see the fish I was releasing. Let them catch their own fish and admire it.
  24. Yes, I would definately release it right away. Like I said in an earlier post, I release 99.999% of the fish I catch, so I'd just let it go and just have the memory. As for telling someone else? Why? I fish for my benefit. I don't need to brag to others. As for pictures, they just help me remember. Kind of like having pictues of my wife. I don't have to brag about her, just remember her.
