  1. Hey Bill, You are most likely correct then. I DID NOT talk to anyone that was science based. I gleaned some stuff from different posting on the internet, but was pretty sure I looked at an actual study. If you do still have access to the people that should be in the know, you might ask again, but I will differ to you on this. SO we all need to start keeping Green Sunfish to help our walleye out. Maybe we get a little better results during the years with some high water where the little guys get a better chance to grow before they get snacked on. They grow to around 10-11 inches in the first year which is pretty amazing growth rate.
  2. The Twin Lakes Walleye Club has a forum. You don't have to b a club memeber to have a forum acct. The forum is not the most active one ever, but with some new interest, it could certainly improve. http://tlwc.proboards.com/index.cgi Thanks
  3. I'll try to find the AGFC guy that handles Walleye and talk to him about natural reproduction of walleye in BSL. I read a study that showed the projected percentage of natural spawned varies from 25% to 44%. Maybe the Walleye Club had a link. Maybe Mike Worley or Col Ron can add some expert opinion. I'm just a bass fisherman that loves to catch >18 inch walleye on accident. I definitely want to catch and keep walleye between 18-25 inches, but I for whatever reason want to turn the BIG girls loose. Also, I do appreciate the length and wieght info. If I'm reading correctly, a fat 30 incher will be close to 10 lb anyways. Thanks!
  4. I've used BANG spray before and liked a couple of aspects of it. I would mainly use it on slow days to help my confidence. I also used to use the REAL Craw oil. Same deal. I was NEVER really convinced it help me catch a single extra fish. I also purchased some Kickin Bass. That stuff smelled so darn bad I threw it away. It wasn't worth putting up with that smell for a few extra fish. I do believe in Berkley Power Bait and Gulp at a minimum for panfish. I've seen it make a night and day difference for bluegill and catfish. I've also used a Cottee product ProBait Tip It in saltwater and I KNOW it made a difference in number and types of fish caught. I do believe in washing my hands with an unscented soap to remove sun screen and petroleum oils that might stick to my bait.
  5. Very nice D. I hope he wasn't the only fish you caught though.
  6. I was fishing with a friend down from Wisconsin and he explained somewhat about the Native American's spear fishing and how it affects lake limits. NO DOUBT that the Native Americans were treated inhumanely, but some of the special regs stuff is crap. I'm prefectly OK with the tribe managing the water on tribal land any way they see fit, but I think that there ought to be one set of regs for all Americans on public water.
  7. Pretty tough day to be on the water yesterday I'd guess. I was lucky enough to be scheduled for work so I didn't abuse myself by being out there. Now, other stuff has come up and I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to hit the water again. No big deal, but even though I fished Thursday (1/31) I'm alread Jonesing pretty hard to fish again. Bummer.
  8. Hey Jeff, As far as I have been able to figure out, About 33% of "our" walleye in BSL spawned there and the rest were stocked. As far as I know, there are NO legally taken walleye that are gigged.Kinda a sore spot with me. Eventually the bad actors will get all gigging outlawed, but the outlaws will still keep hard at it. I'd rather have the 22 inch fish, but will likely keep all my legal fish between 18-25 iinches.
  9. I sure hope I have someone in the boat with me to take a decent picture IF I ever catch a walleye > 30 inches. I'm going to take a quick photo and release that pig.
  10. How long is the average 10 lb walleye? I've caught a handful over 25 inches which I'm guessing we're around 5 pounds.
  11. I have fished the Ouachita River above Lake Ouachita a couple of times, but I was fishing in the Monroe area. Also Bayou D'Arbonne and Lake D'Arbonne. Bayou D'Arbonne runs into The Ouachita above Monroe. Tensas Bayou, Ouachita River, and Little River join together to form the Black River. The Black River eventually makes it's way into the Atchafalaya River which eventually joins the Mississippi. Good fishing in all of them for lots of species of fish when conditions are right.
  12. We start catching yellows once the White Bass spawn is in full swing. Last year, I went down too early and we didn't catch ANY yellow bass, but it was tough conditions. I've caught yellow bass inhe Ouachita River system & Lake D'arbonne ; Toledo Bend and the Sabine River ; Lake O the Pines and Big Cypress Bayou , and I think in the Mississippi River itself. That's what I can easily remember. I've never caught a yellow bass in Arkansas.
  13. Most run smallish, but we get some up to about 12 to 14 inches. My Dad won't keep em if they are under 10 inches or so.
  14. A fish that looks a LOT like a White Bass, but they are smaller and have a lemonish yellow color over the white bass patten. My Dad swears they eat a lot more like a crappie than a White Bass. He won't eat White Bass, but readily keeps the Yellows.
  15. I'll have to do that not a long drive for me and the trout boat with a 20 HP jet takes so e of the worry out of it. I keep a MO license every year. I'll try to keep an ear to the ground for when it starts happening.
  16. Thanks Bill. I'm more familiar with the White Bass run on the Sabine River above Toledo Bend. The White Bass run is followed by a Yellow Bass run which is followed by a Freshwater Drum run. All the runs overlap to some degree and of course all sorts of other fish bite while you are fishing for the White Bass. The fishing on the Sabine CAN BE world class.
  17. Good work. I enjoyed the video.
  18. Thanks Bill. I'll take a look at fish website. I think I've heard that some of the hybrids run up the river with the Whites in the spring.

    Grizzly Jig Show

With a little advanced notice, I might have been able to go. I might have missed the fore warning this year, but I wish that someone would post a "Don't Miss the crappie jig event" next year.
  20. I fished below the dam yesterday. I really think that whatever trout are there for shad move up real close to the outflow which is in the restricted area. I caught one trout on a white jig above Dry Run Creesk and I dished it hard for an hour looking for a group of trout. I missed a bite or two, but too slow for my tastes.
  21. I'm going to miss out on the madness this year. No days off during the first week that they open that section back up. Odds they run water?
  22. I don't think there is anything wrong with the 4 stroke option you are looking at, but you'll have plenty of chances to get one later. The 2 strokes are disappearing ; the four strokes are here to stay.
  23. Most common motor I see is a 9.9, but 15 HP and 20 HP are getting more popular.
  24. i'm interested in fishing the spring run of fish up the river. I've been told about a spot called Johnson's Hole, but I'm not at all sure how to get there. I would appreciate it if someone could help me out with driving directions. I'm guessing about mid March during a "normal" spring. Does that sound about right?
  25. Tough time of year for your first BSL trip. I'd probably try jerkbaits, football jigs, jigging spoons, swimming a 4 inch grub, a rigs, and MAYBE warts. I'm still just beginning to learn BSL though.
