Any Winter Trips To Bennett Planned?
brittsnbirds replied to rcguy's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
RC- I'm off from the 21st till the 3rd and plan on getting a couple days in down there also. I'm going to pull the PUP down and tough out the cold, just have to find a place to land it. Hopefully something in Campground 1 will be open if not, I will check out some of the private places. If all else fails I will drive the extra 1 1/2 hours to Montauk. All of their campgrounds are open. -
Any Winter Trips To Bennett Planned?

KFF- I mentioned to the wife that the dog needed to go camping in her pop up but she didn't bite. I actually was looking at this weekend but I have been hammered all week, don't have time to put it together. Plus it appears to be a little wet. Would like to get together and see how paramedics fish. I know my boss and some of our other Coppers can't, hopefully FFer's can. -
Any Winter Trips To Bennett Planned?
brittsnbirds replied to rcguy's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
I'm trying to figure out when I can get down there. So far in 2007 I have fished either BSP or Montauk at least 1 time every month they have been open. However November may be my void. I'm trying to get down sometime in December, stay a couple of days and tough out the cold! As long as I have power, my e-blanket, and my traveling companion D-dog! -
Bob- I sent you PM. Sounds like the one that I tie. Apply maribou out the back, then palmer what is left up the hook shank and tie it off. I use a dubbing brush to fuzz it up. I have found if I make them short tailed, I get more hook ups. When the sun pops out I sink them deep with weight. They didn't produce that well this summer but sounds like they are the ticket now. I have also used ginger and black. When I'm really desperate I will put on a white (guts).

Ok, enough is enough. I've fished MSD 2 times and am struggling with where you guys are hooked up with these big buggers. Are you just below the spring or over by the lake to the west of the stream?

The guy is lucky the trooper had a tazer. Could have led to a good ole fashin @## whoopin in my city!

Hunted Friday (bow) Saturday and Sunday just west of Stockton. Usually see 20 plus does and several bucks. Only saw 4 does zero bucks. Don't think the rut was on yet. The bucks were definitely not chasing the does or the warm weather and WIND was too much.

Ozark Flyfishers Get Together Nov 9-11
brittsnbirds replied to hfdhoosier's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
JJ- Sorry to hear about your Britt. Brought a tear to my eye. My 2 old dogs are 10 going on 11 and the pup is 3. My wife and I are very close to them and shutter at the thought of loosing anyone of them. By the way do they have any campground open besides 23 spaces in 1? -
Catch And Release At Bssp
brittsnbirds replied to brittsnbirds's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
I guess I could call Eric at the shop and find out. Never camped at Ft. Niangua. Is it as nice as the park? -
Last year at BSSP they had campground 5 open for the catch and release season. You were on the honor system to pay. Not too many people were aware of it as I was the only one in the entire campground several times. Does anyone know if they are opening one of the campgrounds this season since campground 1 isn't finished?

Sobriety checkpoint....and shakedown....
brittsnbirds replied to fishinwrench's topic in Niangua River
mcp633- I was wondering when you would jump in. I concurr with your thoughts. Some people don't understand the reason why we have laws in our society. I remember one of my Professors at CMSU explaining why we have laws, "to protect us from ourselves and others". If you think about it, that is a very simple reason. Putting that into practice at the Niangua, if there wasn't a problem (people making poor choices) then we would not be there having checkpoints. As far as the blue flamers, you have to realize that the rate of pay in some of our County's is barely minimum wage. You get what you pay for. I'm all for zero tolerance when it comes to the violations that people are written on the Niangua. Maybe some day it will make them think that the "sniper" is watching and they will behave themselves. -
Help with Midges
brittsnbirds replied to Robert R.'s topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. That is the experience that I have had. I've had days when a Primrose and Pearl or black Zebra Midge tore them up. In my limited opinion, it depends on what they are "actively" feeding on and how deep they are. Some days they will hit it just under the surface others it has to be bouncing the bottom. Have you ever tried just dead drifting without an indicator? I've taken fish that way. Present directly across from you in moving water, then let it swing. Alot of times when it hits the end of the swing and the midge starts to move up they smack it. You might try and pick up a book or two on midging. There are tons of ways to fish them and tons of types you can use. -
Garret, I was at Parkers this time last year and really liked the area. Went down a few weeks ago on a day trip from Bennett and for some reason couldn't find it. If I remember correct I passed a landmark called Nichols Farm. Didn't see it this time so I think I went the wrong way. If I'm correct you just follow the road. They have graded it since last year. It was pretty tough then, needed the four by four. I wouldn't try it if it's wet. If you do locate it let me know your specific directions. I may try to fish it again. Nice area.

Heading down Friday / Anyone interested?
brittsnbirds replied to DeepDiver75's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Went down yesterday afternoon. Fished below the first handicapp just below the spring. Did OK with a Pemrose and pearl midge. Switched to a grizzly and pearl crackle size 14 and caught several. Moved down to just above the dam. It started raining, finally caught fish after I switched to full sink and a brown and yellow crackle size 12 just above the dam. In about 4 hours I caught approx 30 fish. Water was coming up and it was milky. They were calling for 5" last night. It rained the entire way home to KC area from Osage Beach. Water will be coming up. -
$3.09 at Hy-Vee in Belton for Ethanol last couple of days. Plus you get another nickle off if you drop 20 at the store. Still cost me $75.00 to fill up the truck. Diesel was $2.79 first time in years it has been under gasoline. Maybe the truckers are onto something. The truckers threaten to get into the pockets of the fat cats with all the other goods and their fuel doesn't go up like gas.

chief- I don't understand what the problem was? Just slide up next to him, pull out your little stilleto and put a little slit in his 300 dollar waders. Viola, he's gone, doesn't know what hit him and you've got your hole back!

Yep, just above the article "making rats gay"! What's this world coming to? Surely Terry has a commment in there somewhere?

Ok Ducky- I wasn't going to do anything illegal. In my years of investigation I have come to the theory of "making me more intelligent". When I offer that comment up in a interview most people good/bad usually are more than happy to "make me more intelligent". That's what this job is all about, just getting smarter so you can catch the bad guy. An old detective years ago told me "Mac, there's more than one way to skin a cat". You just have to get "intelligent" enough to "get er done". I'll be at BSP starting the 31st till ??????? at least the 6th. If your in the area look for a silver 03 chevy w/ a 1206 Jayco and a cute brittany standing at the door. I'll be in campground 5 somewhere (hopefully close to the potty)! One other question, is Chief Greybear a real PO chief or is he a native american chief?
-
Ducky- Fire me a cell number, I'll try and get you some help. My daughter spent 4 years at SMS. During that time I had to call on the SPD to work a hit and run that involved her car. Their leaving the scene unit did an excellent job and they had a license number. I've been to training with several of their officers and they have talked about how busy they are but..... if you call in for a gas driveoff, stealing, larceny whatever. They should at least take your info. If you tell them that you will prosecute and you have a video you should at least get an incident number. If the suspect "knowingly" committed the crime then you have a case. I know if we don't have a vehicle description and a license number we will give them a incident number and that's it. If our guys can get a clearance for a larceny, whether you prosecute or sign a waiver it's a stat. Again send me a pm with a cell. We'll see what the SPD can do!

If you get down to Bennett on a Thursday or early Friday, you can get into Campground 5 usually with no problem. They don't take reservations for 5.

Tim's, you mean there's another one?
-
MrsDucky- Can you give me the breakdown of the Super Crackles that Jay gave you? I originally posted my recipes under Jeremy's original crackles. Sounds like the recipes you had were different than mine. Also what color was your best? Were you using sinking line or regular floating?

I agree w/ 633, the fat cats keep getting fatter. They have no desire to help the people that vote them in. Like I said before, we need a hero/champion. Hey 633 if you see me on the side of the road as your roll'in in Gores gulfstream, pick me up. We'll show him what real Americans do for entertainment. Nice to see your still alive!

Wish I had a 4 banger!! Wonder if it would pull the pup? I may have to go back to the tent thing and park the pup. I would save a little, not a lot. I usually avg. around 12mpg going down to BSSP. If I'm not pulling the house I can get up to 18. I guess I will have to work more off-duty!
