White Bass Fishing on the Spring River
Ranger Dave replied to Ranger Dave's topic in Spring & Neosho Rivers (OK)
are you limited to the State Line as well? I am. I think it is ridiculous. I can travel anywhere I want to go inside the State of Missouri. I can drive over 317 miles and go to the hottest Covid-19 places and I am not even required to tell my supervisor or anyone else at work. But if I drive 90 miles west of here and cross the State line, then I am quarantined from work for 14 days. Several co-workers went to Branson over Spring Break along with travelers from all over the state and didn't even say a word. You know those virus' are just waiting at the state line to jump all over you. -
Has anyone been fishing for whites on the Spring or Neosho Rivers? I tried the Spring River on March 4 but didn't have any luck. The water temp was 50 degrees but it was very muddy. Graphed a lot of fish but didn't get any bites.

Has any one been fishing for whites on the Spring River? I went on March 4 but didn't have any luck. I was wondering if anyone else had tried. The water temp was 50 degrees on March 4 but the water was very muddy. It was cleaner than the Neosho but still muddy. I graphed a lot of fish but couldn't get any to bite.

I have Used Don Andreasen 4 times. He put a limit in the boat all but one time. Sometimes he can be a little colorful but he does know where the fish are. Take a look at BeaverFeverGuides.com. He keeps a photo log of the daily catches.

My friend and I went fishing with LMT OUT (Ed) at Stockton today. It was a great day to be on the water and we caught a lot of walleye. No huge ones. I think the largest was 18". But between the 2 of us, we brought home 7 keepers but we caught at least 6 or 7 short ones and a couple got off the line before we got them to the boat. This was my first time to go fishing just for walleye and I had never bottom bounced before. I had caught a few walleye here and there by accident but I never dreamed I would catch 8 walleye in one day. Ed was a great guide. I highly recommend going fishing with him. He took us to a spot and I caught my first walleye in about 5 minutes.

what part of the lake were you fishing?

Spring has sprung and the whites are on the run

I heard reports from Saturday of people catching over 300 in a day. I heard they were quite a bit above Hwy 10 bridge. I fished below 10 bridge between the power line and the floating cabins and I only caught 10. My brother-in-law drove over I-44 and said there were about 50 boats on both sides of I-44. How do you get there? I get a little scared when I drive upstream of 10 bridge. I can go about 1/2 mile upstream from the bridge and then I hit the big gravel bar and it gets extremely shallow. How is everyone getting past the gravel bar? Does it get deeper once you are over the gravel bar? I saw a lot of large boats with 150 and 200 hp outboards driving past me while I was in the lower section so they are getting past the gravel bar somehow. -
I recommend the Duracell batteries made by East Penn sold at Sam's. They have a size 27 and a 31. I think the 27 was around $87 and the 31 was around $99.

Catching a lot of Whites on Spring River
Ranger Dave replied to Ranger Dave's topic in Spring & Neosho Rivers (OK)
We caught most of ours near the power line south of the floating cabins. We went again yesterday. We tried the 10 Bridge area but didn't do as well as the power line area and I don't like taking my boat past the shallow area north of the cabins. Brought home 54 whites and 2 crappie yesterday. In all, we have caught 184 whites and 2 crappie in the last 2 1/2 weeks. I think the peak is over now. The fishing was a little slower yesterday than it was last week. The first 2 trips we used shad raps and flicker shads. The last 2 trips we used buck tail jigs. They really seemed to like the gray buck tails. -
I have made 3 trips to Spring River in the last 2 weeks (April 12, April 21, and April 24). Caught 40 the first trip, 39 the second trip, and 65 the second trip. Average length was about 14inches but had about 20 close to 17 inches. Water temp was 62. Typically an early bite, before 11 AM.

You can purchase one at any Corp Campground and have it immediately

What part of the lake were you at? Was it at a boat ramp or just along the shore line?
-
A lot depends on what direction you are coming from. I personally like using the following ramps: Osage Bluff, Sterrett Creek, State Park, or Shawnee Bend at the Dam. All 3 of the main rivers come together in this region of the lake so you can head several different directions. The water can get rough in some of the large areas but typically it is not too bad. If you are coming from the Clinton side of the lake, try Windsor Crossing, Long Shoal, or Buck Saw.

+1. NADA Boats will provide a low retail and an average retail appraisal for your trailer. Depending on the type of trailer, typically $300 to $500.

Closest ramp with a loading dock would be High Point.

Where are you finding this information? I looked on www.nps.gov/findapark/passes.htm and it still says May provide a 50 percent discount on some amenity fees charged for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, boat launching, and specialized interpretive services. In the FAQ section it stated: Does the Senior Pass include any discounts at Federal Recreation sites? At many sites the Senior Pass provides the pass owner a discount on Expanded Amenity Fees (such as camping, swimming, boat launching, and guided tours).

Don't forget that with the old Golden Age Passport or the America the Beautiful Senior Pass you can purchase the $40 Annual Use Permit for only $20 (half price). The $10 increase from $30 to $40 only increases the permit by $5 when using one of the Senior passes.

Where did you go from Lost Bridge? Towards the Dam or Point 5? What were you using for bait?

Your new lights should have 3 wires. The new lights should have come with some type of paperwork to indicate the function of each wire. One wire should be a ground, one wire should be the tail light, and one wire should be the combination brake light/turn signal. Your old lights probably only had 2 wires coming out of the housing but they were 3 wire lights as well; one wire for tail light, one wire for combination brake/turn signal, and one wire for ground but this ground wire is probably internal off of one of the mounting bolts. Since you don't have a brake/turn signal I am guessing the green wire is for the brake/turn signal. However, I can't determine if the wires you already have connected are correct because your color code is non standard and I don't know what color of wires you connected to at the new lights. The main plug should have 4 wires; white for ground, brown for tail light, yellow for left turn, and green for right turn. There should have been 3 wires at each old light, the left light should have had a yellow (turn signal), brown (tail light), and a wire (ground) but like I said above, the ground could be connected to a mounting bolt since the trailer itself acts as a ground wire. The right light should have had a green wire, brown wire, and a ground wire. Replacement should have been straight-forward, you remove a light with 3 wires and replace it with a light with 3 wires.

How can you tell if they are males or females just by looking? Is there something obvious?

I have an older (2002) Ranger Cherokee 217B. This boat was sold by Ranger but made by Crestliner. I don't know about the newer Rangers.

I have used Don at Beaverfeverguides.com twice. The first time was great. We limited out within 1 hour and he kept us out on the lake for the remainder of our time to see if we could catch a big one. However, the second time I used him I was rather disappointed. He took us to the exact same place he took us the previous time (Big Clifty) and there were no fish. After trolling around for about 2 hours with no bites or indications, Don looked at us and said, "what do you want to do?" I asked him if he thought it would get better if we stayed and he said no. I thought he was supposed to be the guide. How would I know what do? He ended up taking us to the Rocky Branch area where we were also skunked. If we are not catching fish and he don't think we will catch any in this area shouldn't the guide be trying to "find" us some fish. We were in a group of 3 and we did not catch any fish. Now I realize that some days are just like that but if you pay a guy $400 to take you fishing for a half day I kinda expect him to at least try to find some some fish. I will use a different guide next time.

Grand Lake has several heated fishing docks. I think the one at Twin Bridges on US Hwy 60 is open during the winter.

I have seen a lot of surfacing lately. A few weeks ago they surfaced continuously for up to 1 hour. Caught a limit in no time. I usually fish for whites around the flats across from Cedar Ridge or down by Masters Island.
