  1. Shovelers= Soupy Lips
  2. Not sure when it happened, but it is a full blown epidemic. Might have started the same time as "Pro Staff's" got popular and having a hunting crew with a tacky name like "Mallard Mafia" came into existence. We hunted (not by choice) with some of these charcters in South Dakota two years ago. We had a very good shoot in a cut corn field. They would only take a picture with the greenheads. Did not want any of the other ducks in the photo. I told them in Arkansas it is called duck season not green season.
  3. Nice hunt. We hunted Norfork this morning and didn't even shoulder our guns. Only a couple weeks left.
  4. Thought we would see more ducks moving before the front. Only saw about 20 ducks. Managed three. Should of had a couple more. Anyone venturing out in the snow tomorrow?
  5. Nice shots.
  6. The blind sits against a big flood way levy over looking an 80 acre bean field which hides it somewhat. I think the key is that there are tons of ducks in that area. There were definitely ducks that flared from the blind, but enough flew over that we got some shooting. I was the first to go into the blind and the guy told me to turn on the lights when I got in. I thought he was joking, but right inside the door was a light switch that lit the whole blind up. Powered by batteries.
  7. Great report. Awesome to put a friend under a ducknado.
  8. My buddy got an invite from one of his customers to hunt over on the St. Francis flood way and brought me along with him. Hunted one of the nicest blinds I have ever seen. Two stories, heater and stove. Full service breakfast was cooked about 8:30. Big change from hunting temporary blinds built on the side of the lake.
  9. Merry Christmas. Hunted Norfork on Monday and only saw a few gadwalls. Headed to visit family in Russellville and hunt in the river valley a couple days and then over to the Black River.
  10. I have shot a pattern master for six or seven years. Out of my 870 it patterns heavy/slow loads better than light fast loads. I can definitely tell an improvement.
  11. Awesome hunt.
  12. A big group of ducks have been using the same mud flat for over a week. With the full moon and clear skies they came in to the spread 15 min before shooting time and didn't stick around until time. Once the sun came they were very weary only managed to get three.
  13. Scott, I have hunted 4 rivers several times. Real neat place. I think I am going to try to find somewhere to stay to the east of 4 rivers so we can scout/hunt Truman also. My wife's family lives in KC and making the trip up 13 I always tell myself I would like to try to find some ducks out there on Truman.
  14. A buddy and I have started the tradition of going on a wing shooting trip each year. The past 4 years we have gone to South Dakota. Next year we are looking to do something a little closer to home. While there is a lot of activity on this board I wanted to get some suggestions on a home base (hotel, cabin, campground) for hunting Mid- Missouri ( 4 Rivers, Schell, Truman). Also anyone have any other suggestions on a good location for a freelance duck trip. Thanks. Feel free to PM or email info howerton.matt@gmail.com.
  15. DD, What type of boat do you have?
  16. Great Hunt. Had to come to work today.
  17. Nice Hunt. Dry field hunting is a nice change of paces from slopping around in waders.
  18. Great Report. I have always wanted one of those layouts. Much fewer ducks on Norfork past few days. I have gone by myself and killed just a couple each day.
  19. Had a decent hunt today. The ducks we scouted did not come back. They landed further up the lake back in a creek. Ended up with a mixed bad of mallards, teal, Shoveler and ring neck. Also finally got out boat and trailer back up the ramp. I would go again in the morning. But need to go back to work. Might hit it again Tuesday.
  20. A buddy and I went to Norfork in the blizzard this morning. Everything seemed like a go. Made it to the ramp fine. Backed the boat down and fired up the engine. Tried to pull the truck up and it was a no go. Spin City. Left if there and went hunting. Only saw two groups of ducks and they came right in. It took an hour to find some one as stupid as us to come help us get out. We couldn't get the truck plus boat and trailer back up the ramp so our duck boat is riding out the blizzard still on the lake. At least it will be ready to go tomorrow.
  21. Thanks, I thought it was a Bufflehead in flight, but didnt look right in the bag. Not much action on the lake. Had a cripple float out to sea to pick up later, but a bald eagle beat me to it.
  22. Shot this duck on Norfork today. I was thought to be a bufflehead when the trigger was pulled.
  23. Don't shoot ducks you can't retrieve.
  24. Just got back from South Dakota. We had a great trip. It was my dogs first hunt. He figured it out after about the 4th group. Good way to start the season.
  25. Had two groups of specs. fly over the house on Friday. Got the fever started. Headed to South Dakota on November 6th to start my season.
