  1. Hello all- please forgive me if this is off-topic, but I am trying to reach as many anglers and outdoorsmen as I can, quickly. I work for the USGS MO Water Science Center- we're the folks who install and operate the gaging stations many of you rely on for real-time streamflow data. Earlier this week, a technician was making a flood measurement from the Hwy 112 bridge at Roaring River Park when his acoustic doppler current profiler snagged a piece of drift and was lost in the stream. This device is about 2' x 3' and resembles a small 'boogie board'- it is blue and white in color, and was trailing at least 50' of rope, so it shouldn't have gotten far. We are hoping it is hung up somewhere near the campground, and that someone might find it and help return it to us. If you have been following the weather lately (who hasn't?) you can realize how busy we are, and how important these flood measurements are. If anyone finds this equipment, or hears of someone who has, please post here or send me an email @ krbrady@usgs.gov and I will get back to you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your help! KB
  2. Ditto in Rolla
  3. I believe upstream from 63 is private, but one could park there and walk downstream into the park. The 'closed' gate is on the ridge road just before it drops into the park, they can't close the whole road as there are several residences between the park and 63.
  4. Have you checked out Rich's Last Resort or Wilderness Ridge, both on Big Piney near Ross Bridge?
  5. One of my favorite fridge magnets- " If God didn't want us to eat animals, why did He make them out of MEAT?"
  6. It might be a long haul for you, but Mike Davis in Dixon does a heckuva job. I think he used to do all the seats for Shoal Runner before he went out on his own. I know he bought their industrial sewing machine for his own business when SR folded.
  7. You can also pick up a lot of stuff (yarn, beads, fine wire, tiny scissors, etc) at Hobby Lobby. WAY cheaper than any tackle supply, but of course one should support their local fly shop, too.
  8. Fantastic price! You won't be sorry, either. I've had several over the years, now I'm down to one pistol and one carbine. I occasionally fantasize about an Encore in .308. Be careful, they are highly addictive....
  9. I was down there Sat with my nephew. While we didn't get anything nearly that spectacular, you're right in that it was a gorgeous day to be down there. Congrats on that beautiful beast!
  10. Great! Thanks for the input. Some of the boys are thinking we need to move to PB2 due to ice.
  11. My club is having a tournament out of Coffman on Saturday- I was wondering if any of the coves are frozen over yet? Heard of anybody catching anything at all?
  12. I might be fishing a club tournament Sat with Aaron's dad if he gets his boat fixed in time. Brrrr! Must admit I'm jealous of you young fellas getting to fish on a school team.. "They didn't have stuff like that when I was a kid!"
  13. Hi Brent- Actually I'm in Rolla (Central Mo Bassmasters) and I met Rick Carroll's son (Aaron?) who is on the team and I thought he mentioned you? My name is Kel, my nephew Kalen is on the team at Mo Valley.
  14. The 7-24 outdoors website has listings of local bass clubs. Don't know about Springfield, but I fished a couple of MOBASS state tournaments with a fella from Branson Bassmasters, seemed like a good group. Are you perchance on the Mo State Univ bass team?
  15. Nice topic guys- brings back fond memories. I don't remember seeing Bill Dance, or Roland Martin, they must have been on one of the networks we couldn't get on the rabbit ears. I do remember being fascinated with Virgil's aquarium (I wanted one SO bad). He turned me on to beetle spins, Uncle Josh, and of course Johnson's Silver Minnow spoons.
  16. Just to throw in my $.02- check out an Abu Garcia Orra SX or Revo S. I've got ten Black Max, two Silver Max, an STX-L, two SX-L, three S-L, BC5601, 5601C4, Kalex 51, and a Revo Skeet. Of the whole bunch, the Revo S gives the most bang for the buck, wish I had discovered them first! It doesn't have adjustable magnets, but has a really nice centrifugal brake. The Orra is nearly the same thing, but I haven't tried one personally as it is one of two models they don't make in a left-hand version. For a round reel, the Kalex is hard to beat for around $80.
