  1. Hard to tell, the fish seem to be doing fine.
  2. I only brought 2 trout to hand today. The fish are supper spooky as always, I had to go ninja to land these two, but it was worth it. My two biggest trout from Blue Springs Creek! I could not be more excited. Those of you that fish this water know that fish like these don't come easy. Fantastic! The brightly colored one is a real pig, the picture does NOT do him justice. I just snap one as quick as I can and get them back in the water.
  3. Love it!
  4. cost of child neglect. Baaaaaad....
  5. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/14-year-old-shoots-armed-intruder-while-babysitting-his-younger-siblings-in-phoenix/ Not a sheep.
  6. Lots of BAAAAAbabababaaaAAAAAD sheep commenting here.
  7. Not so long ago and in a pasture too uncomfortably close to here, a flock of sheep lived and grazed. They were protected by a dog, who answered to the master, but despite his best efforts from time to time a nearby pack of wolves would prey upon the flock. One day a group of sheep, more bold than the rest, met to discuss their dilemma. “Our dog is good, and vigilant, but he is one dog and the wolves are many. The wolves he catches are not always killed, and the master judges and releases many to prey again upon us, for no reason we can understand. What can we do? We are sheep, but we do not wish to be food, too!” One sheep spoke up, saying “It is his teeth and claws that make the wolf so terrible to us. It is his nature to prey, and he would find any way to do it, but it is the tools he wields that make it possible. If we had such teeth, we could fight back, and stop this savagery.” The other sheep clamored in agreement, and they went together to the old bones of the dead wolves heaped in the corner of the pasture, and gathered fang and claw and made them into weapons. That night, when the wolves came, the newly armed sheep sprang up with their weapons and struck at them and cried “Begone! We are not food!” and drove off the wolves, who were astonished. When did sheep become so bold and so dangerous to wolves? When did sheep grow teeth? It was unthinkable! The next day, flush with victory and waving their weapons, they approached the flock to pronounce their discovery. But as they drew nigh, the flock huddled together and cried out “Baaaaaaaadddd! Baaaaaddd things! You have bad things! We are afraid! You are not sheep!” The brave sheep stopped, amazed. “But we are your brethren!” they cried, “We are still sheep, but we do not wish to be food. See, our new teeth and claws protect us and have saved us from slaughter. They do not make us into wolves, they make us equal to the wolves, and safe from their viciousness!” “Baaaaaaaddd!”, cried the flock,”the things are bad and will pervert you, and we fear them. You cannot bring them into the flock. They scare us!”. So the armed sheep resolved to conceal their weapons, for although they had no desire to panic the flock, they wished to remain in the fold. But they would not return to those nights of terror, waiting for the wolves to come. In time, the wolves attacked less often and sought easier prey, for they had no stomach for fighting sheep who possessed tooth and claw even as they did. Not knowing which sheep had fangs and which did not, they came to leave sheep out of their diet almost completely except for the occasional raid, from which more than one wolf did not return. Then came the day when, as the flock grazed beside the stream, one sheep’s weapon slipped from the folds of her fleece, and the flock cried out in terror again, “Baaaaaaddddd! You still possess these evil things! We must ban you from our presence!”. And so they did. The great chief sheep and his court and council, encouraged by the words of their moneylenders and advisors, placed signs and totems at the edges of the pasture forbidding the presence of hidden weapons there. The armed sheep protested before the council, saying “It is our pasture, too, and we have never harmed you! When can you say we have caused you hurt? It is the wolves, not we, who prey upon you. We are still sheep, but we are not food!”. But the flock would not hear, and drowned them out with cries of “Baaaaaaddd! We will not hear your clever words! You and your things are evil and will harm us!”. Saddened by this rejection, the armed sheep moved off and spent their days on the edges of the flock, trying from time to time to speak with their brethren to convince them of the wisdom of having such teeth, but meeting with little success. They found it hard to talk to those who, upon hearing their words, would roll back their eyes and flee, crying “Baaaaddd! Bad things!”. That night, the wolves happened upon the sheep’s totems and signs, and said, “Truly, these sheep are fools! They have told us they have no teeth! Brothers, let us feed!”. And they set upon the flock, and horrible was the carnage in the midst of the fold. The dog fought like a demon, and often seemed to be in two places at once, but even he could not halt the slaughter. It was only when the other sheep arrived with their weapons that the wolves fled, vowing to each other to remain on the edge of the pasture and wait for the next time they could prey, for if the sheep were so foolish once, they would be so again. This they did, and do still. In the morning, the armed sheep spoke to the flock, and said, “See? If the wolves know you have no teeth, they will fall upon you. Why be prey? To be a sheep does not mean to be food for wolves!”. But the flock cried out, more feebly for their voices were fewer, though with no less terror, “Baaaaaaaadddd! These things are bad! If they were banished, the wolves would not harm us! Baaaaaaaddd!”. The other sheep could only hang their heads and sigh. The flock had forgotten that even they possessed teeth; how else could they graze the grasses of the pasture? It was only those who preyed, like the wolves and jackals, who turned their teeth to evil ends. If you pulled their own fangs those beasts would take another’s teeth and claws, perhaps even the broad flat teeth of sheep, and turn them to evil purposes. The bold sheep knew that the fangs and claws they possessed had not changed them. They still grazed like other sheep, and raised their lambs in the spring, and greeted their friend the dog as he walked among them. But they could not quell the terror of the flock, which rose in them like some ancient dark smoky spirit and could not be damped by reason, nor dispelled by the light of day. So they resolved to retain their weapons, but to conceal them from the flock; to endure their fear and loathing, and even to protect their brethren if the need arose, until the day the flock learned to understand that as long as there were wolves in the night, sheep would need teeth to repel them. They would still be sheep, but they would not be food! By Charles Riggs, © 1997
  8. I don't know....that bleeding whole in the fishes side is very suspect.
  9. If you are over the age of 12 and are still taking fish to the "Lunker Board" it's time to stop fishing.
  10. Snag mark...nylon stringer, and yet another nice brown dead....yawn.
  11. Wow...I never knew the record was only 8-9lbs....that seems small to me. I used to catch 9-10lbs when I was a kid at one local farm pond. I called it the "hog hole"...not kidding every bass that i caught was over 6lbs....I would weigh them with those little spring loaded scales you get from Walmart....so not that accurate I admit. The "hog hole" water would turn black in the summer from the amount of tadpoles in the water...it was the craziest thing. The fish would literally just have to breath in and they would have themselves a mouthful of baby frogs. Which might account for why they got so big. I would blast top water lures during the summer months, and catch 8-9lbs bass by the dozen, I really had no idea how good I had it...I thought all bass where supposed to be that big. It wasn't until the pond was sold and I wasn't allowed to fish there anymore that i started to realize that it was a pretty special place. I miss the "hog hole."
  12. and after 10 pages......gigging still remains stupid.
  13. Smallie..I have to agree with you about gigging. Although I have never been...and have no desire to go. I guess the idea is to spot fish via a big light and then stab them with a fork? I like gigging for frogs though...of course I have never had a problem telling the difference between a frog and a bass. I wonder if it's even possible to tell the difference in fish species at night...even if you have those big lights.
  14. I was wondering when the grammar police were going to get here. Thank God you made it officer, I think I saw a run on sentence following a pun. If it's not to late you might be able to prevent the improper use of there, their or they're.
  15. Really..that's what you think of us?
  16. It is clear to me that most of you who fall on this side of the argument keep bringing up the fear thing. As if the base emotion of fear is somehow an evil emotion that should be shunned instead of listened to, internalized and dealt with through educating yourself. It is fear of loss that pulls your money out of a failing investment portfolio. It is fear of living without electricity that makes you buy a generator. It is fear that causes you to carry bear replant when backpacking in the mountains. It is fear that makes me not wade too deep. So please...if you are going to frame your argument on the basis that fear is a poor motivation for wanting to self protect....I suggest you give me a good motivation to self protect. Furthermore...."Civilized" people are incapable of taking the life of another? Really? So if someone means to do me or my family grave bodily harm or just wishes to kill us outright....I should let them because it is the "civilized" thing to do.....the prudent thing? Come on Ron...you seem smarter then that. Perhaps a person motivated by this evil "fear" decided it prudent to seek getting his CCW. He dove himself into fully researching the subject...looking at all the statistics, facts, and lifestyle changes that he would have to make. Diligently sought well qualified trainers. Read as many books on the subject....and religiously keeps his skills with his chosen firearm in top working form. He being the victim of violent crime in the past fully recognizes that such violence can occur no matter where you are and at anytime. Since he was attacked in broad daylight....on a college campus....inside an elevator....without provocation. Furthermore...perhaps this guy is also aware that he is alive today (or at least not permanently damaged) because the elevator was unable to be stopped due to a faulty button....and since most criminals are cowards...his assailants flew the seen once the ground floor was reached.....ya all three of them.
  17. Anytime you walk into the woods
  18. Oh and a good pair of polarized glasses and ware drab colors...I ware camouflage...seems to help. After you fish the stream a couple of times you will figure out what places hold fish and what don't......some of my favorite holes are no deeper than knee deep. If you blow out a hole (spook the fish) just move on...they aren't going to bite.... Get some full size waders....most of the time the water is never that deep but there are a couple of holes where the best place to stand is gonna get to your waist.....besides that water is COLD in the fall.
  19. I fish this creek regularly.....most important thing you can do is learn to walk like a ninja. These fish are as skittish as it comes and if you want to catch anything that is bigger than your finger you will have to be quiet and slow. Other than that they pretty much will bite just about anything you decide to float by them.
  20. Thanks FW...I have also enjoyed the debate...Cheers.
  21. Yes...lets pretend....you have been doing a lot of that. What "real" reason would it be ok to take a tire iron out and plan on using it on another human? The only one I can think of is self-defense. Yes...maybe the guy could have ran...I don't remember looking into his car. Then again...maybe the other guy is much faster ten he...perhaps he had a bad knee. Hmmm...CCW people don't have to worry about get their @#$ kicked? Tire iron does not equal @#$ kicked...tire iron equals severe and grave threat. So...no..in this case CCW would not have to worry about getting their skulls split on the side of the highway by someone that lost their cool. I shared this story with the intent on showing how CCW can and does work. However...continue to "what if" the situation to death...what if the other guy had a gun...what if the CCW flipped the bird....what if... what if...what if.... If you keep on doing this you are bound to find plenty of things to back up your illogical argument.
  22. Here is my last rebuttal to the whole discussion: There seems to be (among the ones on the other side of the debate) this general feeling that if you carry you are paranoid. Because chances are you will never use it and if you did use your gun it could only make the situation worse. This feeling is what it is...a feeling or gut reaction. Studies have shown that people who carry/own prevent about 2.5 million crimes annually in the US alone. Primarily without firing a single round. Here is my story of how I watched this happen in person. My family and i were stuck in traffic (44) one summer day about 5-6 years ago...I mean deadlock...we were moving along at about 5 miles an hour...with many stop and goes. About 30 meters ahead of us on the right there were two cars on the shoulder that must have had a fender-bender. There were also 2 men standing by each of there cars...one of the men was clearly irate...cursing and flailing his arms..pointing at the man who must have rear ended him. They other man, judging from his body language, was trying his best to defuse the situation. Giving they guy the calm down, double hands in the air kinda thing.... Next thing that I see...the man that was being belligerent went to his trunk and pulled out a tire iron...(I am guessing he wasn't planning on changing his tire) and advanced upon the other guy....at which time the other guy pulled his pistol and pointed it at the man with the tire iron....the guy retreated and returned the tire iron to the trunk....situation muted. Now...i for one thank god that man had his pistol with him that day...because I wasn't about to let him get beat down with a tire iron and would have lent him a hand...placing myself in grave danger (i wasn't CCW at the time). I am sure this man that was caring didn't "think" that he would need to pull his pistol that day...he did't even think he would be in an accident...and he certainly didn't think that he would have to deal with a guy wielding a tire iron.
  23. I agree...so please stop "living in fear" of getting shot by an "idiot" CCW person. You have a much better chance of being killed diving in your car. To cricket and the rest of the boys sharing the same opinion, Believe me when I say...I do respect your opinion. I in no way want you to think that I don't...and I would never force you or anyone else that is uncomfortable with the idea of caring concealed..to do so. So by all means don't...for whatever reason you think. I choose to carry for my reasons...and mine alone. That's really it. One thing is clear...no matter what you do...no matter how many laws you want passed or how much you wish for people to act in a responsible manner...they sometimes won't.
