  1. Glad to have you and we look forward to reports and pics. Dano
  2. Prayerful thoughts.
  3. Don't you find it a blessing that you don't have TV there???? If you just want to keep up with the news get yourself XM Sirus Sat radio ... you get the major news channels (audio only) .. but again who wants to watch depressing stuff when you can be fishing. Just my humble opinion. Dano
  4. I don't but if I did I'd send you some. Probably cheaper just to buy the flies you are wanting or get a Whiting 100 pack if you can even find those....outside of that you might check with the local hair salon....they probably have a bunch.....
  5. I doubt you would find a tinkers damn worth of difference in the two. I would go with Cortland. As Idlewylde says they have been in the biz along time. This says a lot for them, and as far as I am concerned their 444 Peach is the finest fly line ever manufactured. Dano
  6. Probably the fact you are only trying to cast 10 to 20 ft of line...usually not enough to load the rod. Try pulling out 30 ft and starting your cast. I would say that will more than likely cure the problem. Dano
  7. Great pic...what camera were you using?

  10. Glad you have you fellows.... Dano
  11. I use both. I don't think it makes a Tinkers damn difference actually. The softer hen hackle will give that part of the fly some undulating action that can entice a fish. Dano
  12. If you have been following this thread its obvious why its closed.
  13. Love the Thompson A, Rolan.
  14. :secret-laugh:
  15. Interesting stuff though....
  16. Won't make any difference on loading the rod to practice your casting, but if you wanted to use it as a backup rod / reel I would want some backing. In addition to longer than 100 ft runs by a good fish having backing on the reel helps with the ease of the retrieve on the reel. It needs to be explained by one of our resident physicist as to why it helps but I do know it does....
  17. Agreed!!!!
  18. Premier smallmouth water. Fish up or down from public accesses. Fish will typically be in deep holes, in tail outs of riffles and in along rock structures where there is some current. If you are fly fishing a sink tip line or sinking leaders will help get clousers, woolies and other streamers on the bottom (change up your stripping as it seems day by day as to what they want) If you are fishing conventional tackle I have had the best luck on tube baits (gitzits) fished ticking along the bottom in the current. Good luck and have fun. Dano
  19. I use them with about 3 ft of tippet.
  20. 1. I think you could expect mostly high water during that period you will be at Taneycomo and also on the White. The flooding this Spring has caused high levels of water on the lakes. If you are not comfortable fishing high water it would be a great idea to hire a guide for the day. I would also suggest you have the guide provide some instruction as to flies, technique and other aspects of the water you will be fishing. 2. The patterns you mentioned are all effective on the area tail waters. as a side note you might consider a trip over to Roaring River State Park near Cassville for a day of fly fishing. Midges, woolley buggers, and small dry fly patterns should hook you up with a few trout and a good place to hone up on your fly fishing skills.
  21. Caught several Saturday on gitzit's in gray and also pumpkinseed colors. The smaller 2 inch size seemed to work better than the 3 1/2 inch ones. Fish the deep holes slow.
  22. Yeah, I know, I'm a slacker.
  23. A bunch of fun Jeff...sure like catching those scrappers.
  24. Gitzits on the spinning rod. I used a couple of tube colors Phil, gray with red specks, and the pumpkin seed color with green flecks. They hit both colors readily. Just ticked the tubes along the bottom and wait for a strike. Lots of fun till the canoe traffic got heavy.
