Problems shifting into gear. Merc 150 xr6
sublimez replied to sublimez's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Dang, I'm down in very bottom sw corner of Missouri (Joplin) and back to work tomorrow. I appreciate the offer though Sir! I popped the hood and found that it definitely is the cable and that I could easily shift it by hand on the motor from Forward to Reverse, just get no movement at all from my cable.. Hoping that I don't miss out on too much crappie this weekend! -

Problems shifting into gear. Merc 150 xr6
sublimez replied to sublimez's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Yeah, I'm hoping it's just the cables because that I can afford! I just meant weeks because I figured a lot of them are booked up because of all the spring fisherman coming out. Called today and it will be a week before I can get in -
My fishin' buddy has a house in 3 Hills so it makes it real convenient.. and as stated gravel road right up to boat ramp but a real nice concrete ramp. And as SRJ mentioned as well it is a pretty steep grate going up the hill at 3 Hills after fishing. I have a Dodge Ram just 2WD and more than once I've had to back down the hill to get a better run at going up and making the corner after fishing. Lots of good fishing back there in that timber though! Snagged some decent bass in thru there too.

Put in at 8am at the 3 Hills ramp and idled straight across to first cove and had a keeper crappie within 5 minutes and figured it was going to be an amazing day.. unfortunately for me though the only ended up with a handful of crappie and of bunch of largemouth.. As reported their were boats all over the coves, sometimes 8-9 deep and they would jump 10 feet in front or behind you if they thought you were catchin em. We picked up our crappie on 1/16"oz Jighead with black/chart grub in 7-10 fow. With the cooler days dropping the temps back down it made it harder for us to get on them.. though it looked like most of the other guys I saw catching them in the coves were catching them (none were really just slayin em) with minnows casted 2 foot under bobbers about 4 foot off the banks and jerked and reeled back to boat. Water temps in this area were from 58-60 and with not much luck yesterday and fighting with the crowds we trailered back up at 3pm. We have been fishing this area about the last week and it seems like 6:30 to 8:30 pm has been the best times to really get on the crappie for us plus a lot of the boat traffic is gone and we can relax and enjoy ourselves.. picked up some real nice walleyes out there over the past few days as well as 2 big ol carps which was super fun on 4 pound test! Most of the kept crappie were 11-13" females and all had still had eggs. This is my first report so I apologize for being all over the place, i'm still learning what I'm doing out there, and I'm grateful for everyone on this site who helps me out! -cheers!

Good Morning guys, I was out fishing at Stockton yesterday and I'd pulled up a slight bit crooked on my trailer on the ramp so I went to put my boat into reverse and realized that while it revved up completely normal it would not jump into gear.. I pushed off and then tried forward gear and found that it did not work either. This is an older engine, but I had been using it pretty well for the past few days and the last few years pretty regularly. Thinking back, lately I have had a bit a problem getting into gear from neutral but I would always just bring it back to neutral then move back forward and it would always click into gear and take off. I pulled the cowling off the motor and hooked up the muffs and notice my shift stick moving fairly freely from max forward to max reverse, look on motor and notice the shift cable isn't doing jack squat on motor so I'm initially thinking it might just be the shift cable.. Started up boat, and had son work the shift stick forward and then I push the shifter on motor manually to forward and it goes and then have him put in reverse and push it to reverse and it works. It seems very hard by hand to move the lever on engine to forward gear and to reverse gear. Question is: Should it be really hard to move into Forward gear and Reverse gear by hand on the side of your motor?? It started making me wonder that the reason it was so hard to shift was that maybe something was bound in my lower unit which put too much stress on my cable causing it to break. Thank you guys very much for your input! I really need to get it to the Marina, but the Crappie getting hot on Stockton and it will probably take a few weeks to get this repaired at the shop right now.

Wow! 11lb's is a giant! I believe it though. I'll be back up there this weekend. Yeah, it's in Lamar... Heading North on 160 through Lamar pass through the main part of town to a grocery store on right. Turn Right before it and follow the road and signs to the lake. Thanks for the info Buzz!! Appreciate the help!! We ended up boating a few Largemouth and 1 Crappie.. One of the Largemouth was a real nice fish. Of course my buddie had to catch it! The wind was pushing us pretty good and seemed that I was busier navigating around it than in the wind. Tried the jig, Rat-L, Plastic Craw, but to no avail. Ended up catching all of our fish on Shad Colored Square Bills in the middle section of the lake. I will hopefully head back out there soon and explore a few more spots I've found some good looking structure and maybe I'll get the big fish this time.

Good Afternoon all! We are planning on heading out to Lamar Lake this Saturday or Sunday morning to do a bit of fishing and I was wondering if anyone has fished it recently or has any tips/report for this lake? It's been about 2 years since I've fished it and at the time I was spending more time fighting wind then fishing. We're just happy to be out fishing so Crappie, White Bass, Largemouth, any of that would big great to hear about. Thanks in advance for any info!

Shawnee Trail Ponds And Pits-- Need Info
sublimez replied to MSUFisherBear's topic in Other Ozark Lakes
Are you guys fishing the main 9ish Acre lake Pin Oak Lake? Or hitting some of the other bodies. I've had a little luck with some largemouth bass in this main lake but have yet to fish any of the other areas there. Now that I have a kayak I plan on doing some exploring. I did see one strip pit that looked really nice, may explore some of them on my vacation next week. -

Lake Oscie Ora, Formerly Spike Malugins Lake In Joplin
sublimez replied to sublimez's topic in Other Ozark Lakes
Thanks for all the input guys. I'm just looking for something close here in Joplin that I can access pretty easy. I've tried down by the falls and close by areas of shoal creek with no luck, and Kellog Lake in Carthage with no luck either.. kinda bummed that I can't find anything closer than Bushwhacker Lake where I've actually done decent. All I have is a 14 Foot Flat bottom so I'm somewhat limited. -
Has anybody fished there recently? Been kicking around the idea of calling about a membership out there, but I haven't fished there since I was a kid and was curious if it was worth it, what kind of fish are stocked there, etc. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

14Ft Flat Bottom, Best To Fish Cc Or Sons Creek?
sublimez replied to sublimez's topic in Stockton Lake
Thanks for all the info guys! I think we are gonna venture out there this weekend to check it out. I will definitely make sure to check the weather before we head up and check the wind as well. It's encouraging to see that I'm not the only one with a 14ft out there, and good as well to see that your able to take it beyond the rivers and smew all bodies of water I've been fishing for the past few months. Hopefully I will have some good news to report back first of next week.
