  1. very nice fish, Jim. Where did you catck it and was it a Dem or a Republican? George
  2. Points to ponder: While I believe that the questions that jjtrout presents are mostly valid, the last part about tax rates are not valid, Mr. Obama has not put that fine of a point on his proposed tax rates. If fact, in his address he promised lower rates to 95% of Americans, and to be off of oil in 10 years (?????) among many other things. 1) Bush inherited a recession from Clinton. Not Clinton's fault exactly, but we were comming off the dot com bubble then just as we are comming off the mortgage problem now. 2) 9-11 could have sent us into a major economic disaster, the tax cuts proposed by Pres Bush and enacted by congress averted that. 3) The costs of Iraq in dollars and lives are huge and terrible, but the introduction of freedom into a region that did not have it before, and is a very important part of the world will change that part of the world forever and for the better. I think ( as did our founders) that all men yearn to be free, and once people are given a taste of freedom that it will grow. Iraq cannot be discussed without consideration of the duties of the POTUS to protect the US in a military way, and the importants of the free flow of oil to our economy. We will rely on oil for the rest of my life, not just the next 10 years. It will take the long view of history to truly evaluate the Iraq war. 4) There were many positive aspects that came with the easy availibility of mortgage loans. Many people made tons of money in the construction trades, many people were able to buy homes (most of those have not lost those homes), and people used the equity in their homes to buy stuff which has also fueled our economy. Now we are paying the massive cost for all of that easy money. Did we force people to borrow money that they could not repay at bad loan terms? No, of course not, this is America. Everyone should be responcible for their own bad decisions. 5) Our economy has a history of peeks and valleys, and it takes time for policy changes to have an effect on the economy. Much of the economic good times of the 90's were a result of policies of the 80's, in addition to favorable market conditions which may have nothing to do with the policies of the party in power. All of that being said, I think that our chioce is very simple. If you think that government should get out of the way to as large of an extent as possible and let the free markets and the the hard work of the American people solve problems, vote Republican. If you think that government is the solution to our problems and should take over more of our economy, vote Democrat. If you believe in judges who strictly adhear to the constitution and written law, vote Republican If you believe that it is the roll of judges to expand the constitution to what they see as current circumstances that warrent additions rights, vote Democrat.

    Its Time

The good folks at jib jab do it again http://www.peteyandpetunia.com/VoteHere/VoteHere.htm
  4. I often wondered just how many trout the herons in upper Tany eat. I have personally watched one bird eat 3 fish in 10 minutes. If there are 200 birds above fall creek, and each bird eats 2 fish a day, that is 2800 fish per week, or over 145,000 trout per year. Is this number high or low? George
  5. Boards made of wood and set with explosive charges were (and are) designed so that they can be quickly expolded to let water thru at the max rate in flood conditions like we had this spring. All part of the plan. George
  6. Hey LMW Dana's has very good BBQ. They have a location at Fall Creek road and 165 if you are headed back to KC from Tany, and they also have a location closer to KC, just north of KC on 13. I like it cause you can get good food quick and yu don't need to change out of your fishing duds. I am not sure about steak The bowling alley at KC has great pizza by the way.
  7. Michael So glad to hear the good news about your kiddo. Answered prayers. George
  8. Al right Leonard. Meat Whistle ?? Explain
  9. I assume we should use this information in the following ways: Use as heavy of line and leader as possible Get the trout to the boat asap Revive and release fish as quickly as you can
  10. Corn, Powerbait, Crawlers and soft plastic jigs all work great. Moving your feet to kick up bugs off the bottom and then dangling your bait (is it ok to say dangle your bait?) is also very effective.
  11. Hey Bobw Tomorrow is the 9th, drawdown the 16th
  12. Hi Big Red You may know this, but a good trick on trailering your boat in high current is to angle the trailer down stream some when you put it in so that you can drive upstream at an angle to get it on. I just learned this myself this spring putting the boat on the trailer with the flood gates open. Next trick if you have not done it already is to teach the wife how to drive the boat on to the trailer. This gives you a convienent scapegoat (the best thing to have in life) if there are any mishaps. Nice that your kids eat their catch, sounds like a great day all around. George
  13. Way to go Big Red It is always great to let the wife and kids catch some George
  14. Hey Big Red I would start just above monkey Island and drift al the way to Branson Landin, and then focus of the areas that you catch fish. Good luck and do not try fishing yourself, just guide the wife and kids. That is plenty of both work and fun George
  15. On table rock, Kimberling city
  16. How about a recipe for crab boil to make them spicy like you get in new orleans?

  18. Hey DT You may not be loged in to the web site. If not, you can read the stories and not view the pictures. Click on the login at the above left. What a fish. Way to go. I think that the more that catch and quick photos and release can be promoted here the better it is for our fishery. I look at most of the comments related to the death of this fish in that light. Education about the options of recreations as opposed to kill and mount is important. Some of us do come off a little self rightous of these matters when a little more understanding and friendly education would serve us all better. George
  19. The way the generation has been you would have plenty of water to go all the way up to tablerock dam and fish the whole shooting match. Artificials only above fall creek (no soft plastics), but beyond that you are ok to use whatever. For me in high generation, it is most productive to use a drift rig to get whatever you are using to the bottom. Some one with more experiance could tell you more about fishing below Branson.
  20. Wanted to take my Sister Barb and her kids along with other various family members out to try and catch some trout on Saturday. I took Bill Babler's advice and hit from Lillys down to Branson and was not disappointed. There were 7 of us, so I rented one of Phil's pontoon boats. I would highly recommend that option for a large group, it was very nice with plenty of room and shade. We are usually fly fisherman, but I decided to go the power bait route with this group. It was white hot from Monkey Island down to Scottys, 2 or 3 on at a time in several instances. The best bite was not on Gulp (whigh was still good), but on night crawlers. Sometimes they would eat it before that bell sinker even hit the bottom. Very nice sized fish, many 12 to 14 inches. Grandma Jean even caught some (on worms)(dig). Used my g-2 rods and once again I would say that if you are looking for a really great rod and are willing to spend around $150, these are just outstanding. I could tell when someone was getting bit by watching the tip, and the action with a fish on is really something else. I also had the occasion to go into Scottys and meet Lamar. It is very nice inside (I had never been), Clean and Cool with all of the supplies as well as boat rentals that you might need (cold soda, ice, ice cream, restroom). What a nice addition and resource for Tany. George
  21. With 4 units, I cast out parallel to the bank and let the jig work its way back to behind the boat. I usually have a fair amount of line out.
  22. Phil has 2 articles on page 2 of the articles above
  23. Marabou jigs in Olive, Black, or white all will work well. White was really the ticket with shad comming thru the dam this spring. 1/8 oz will bounce off the bottom with 4 generators running, down to 1/16 oz with 2 generators. You can drift with these( make sure you are on the bottom ) or cast to dead spots where trout may be holding. 4lb test or less is a good idea. I'm sure Phil has some articles with more details in the archives above. Good Luck
  24. Thanks Bill, that info is worth some ripe tomatoes. Anyone else?
  25. I am headed to theKimberling City area next week and was interested in putting the kids on some bluegil. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks
