  1. I have sort of followed some of the reports and on line outcry to do this or that to the dam. Sadly anything that is going to be done whether fixing up or removing is going to have to go through a LOT of red tape with environmental agencies. I don't like groups of people in places I float. I don't mind a few good ole boys like me fishing, camping etc. but just don't like people well enough to mix with groups. I floated the Niangua once with a group of youth from church, after advising them not to do it, they did the first year without me, and there were enough learning experiences for them that I went along the second time to be an overseer of sorts. At the end I told them to never ever do it again.
  2. There are usually some Boletes (??) that pop up in my yard after summer rains. I have a friend that loves them, I could take or leave them either way. In fact usually leave them to the lawnmower, as I am not sure enough about most shrooms to be expiramenting. My friend doesn't mind, but has also driven the porcelain bus a time or two when wrong.

    What's Cooking?

Try mixing in some other stuff like basil or even cilantro, or just pre-made Italian seasonings with the mashed up garlic and olive oil warmed up for dipping.
  4. I guess it depends on how much current, but before I knew it was Ned rig we would fish slower current just like a normal Ned rig on the lake, with enough weight to keep it on bottom. In swifter current areas usually the same weight that would hold in a very slow current would let it tumble or float downstream if you lifted it up. Sometimes you could float/roll one that way into places you couldn't cast to, resulting in some very nice fish, didn't always get them out of their fortress but sure is fun to try.
  5. OUCH! glad you are healing up.

    What's Cooking?

I will admit that I kind of like some of the animated movies that I had to set through a few hundred times. And I like UP. But I can pace myself on the movies, but ripe peaches I have no willpower strong enough to resist them.
  7. My tomatoes are doing the same, even some of the smaller ones are splitting due to the moisture. But they sure are tasty. Even the ones you pick a ltitle early, and just can't wait for full ripe, are still better than anything from he supermarket.

    What's Cooking?

If someone brings home a bushel of ripe peaches I am going to be very sick. I can eat a lot, but don't know if I can eat a whole bushel of them, but would do my best. Many years ago I went to an orchard to pick oeaches, they told us not to put the over ripe ones in the neck basket, just throw them on the ground. I did the first couple that just fell into my hand, then I touch a bite of one. Every one after that I ate 4 or 5 big bites from before tossing it. I was a sick puppy, and learned what happens when you eat that many peaches. Never regretted a second of it
  9. I hope they hold the water up till I get there on the 17th. That is not going to happen, we are already starting to increase the outflow to draw the lake back down to a target of 839.0 The forecast shows us releasing 3000 CFS for a couple days then dropping to 2500 CFS until about the 18th. Of course as always all that is dependent upon additional rainfall. Big rains will shut us down until downstream conditions stabilize, and we can again increase the releases.
  10. Water level is up, right now, but we will be dropping it pretty hard for a while, upper end will be muddy, don't know how far down it will extend. But pulling water often moves it further down stream.
  11. What seems like a LONG time ago when I was a kid, we trot lined for carp and canned them, I thought it was pretty good, didnt know we was just poor hilbillies, thought we was living high when mom would open a jar and make fish patties.

    What's Cooking?

    What's Cooking?

BH sure I can get away with saying that, but I don't know your wife so I wouldn't say things about her.
  17. They ain't too bad to eat either. Probably out of the clear waters of the Rock it would be even better. Scale it, remove head and innards, remove tail and fins. Then pretentious it's a big trout, butter, garlic, onion slices and lemon slices, toss on a sprig of dill if desired, cover with foil and bake until tender. Big bones are easy to pick out as you eat it, rich and sticky meat.
  18. Mexicans, near a water source, summertime, no vehicle around. Hopen you at least told the coos, because that has the ingredients of a marijuana growing operation. But glad you got to fish also.

    What's Cooking?

I chunked up a couple of the first maters into the cukes and onions. Finally am getting the mix tamed down a little, it was a bit "wangy". Good enough now that my 2 yr old grandson was on a tear eating them for lunch.
  20. Smile man, you are holding a nice bass, caught after having to hold off for a while. Its Ok to grin like a monkey then.
  21. I haven't eaten at 254 for a long time. Honestly I never cared for the hand breaded tenderloin, but they also had a smothered tenderloin, thicker, but smaller sized that was grilled and smothered with sautéed onions, mushrooms, peppers etc., and served with sour cream and salsa, it was GOOOOOD. Sadly anymore I tend to grab some fried chicken from the Trading Post and run with it.
  22. Vicy and tims is now called the crappie hole, and yes it is the one that used to be a church.
  23. darn, I hate things like that. Will definitely send some prayers for the families.
  24. Ladies and Gentlemen, and others. The big weekend has begun, lots of folks on the highways, waters, and everywhere else, so watch yourself. Don't let your guard down, or abandon your common sense. My small town already has had one injury from fireworks, man who no longer has a left hand, except for pinky, and lost part of his right hand fingers, blown out eardrums, some shrapnel injuries and a very scared fiancé who thankfully only suffered some minor injuries. I know there will be a lot out on the waters having fun, so watch out for yourself, and for them when possible. Lets see if we can make it through the big weekend with no drownings or boating accidents on our waterways. Enjoy yourselves but know your limits. End of sermon.
  25. Welcome DWS, I still get that feeling when I drive over a creek or river. Can be going 75 mph down an interstate and drive over one and all I can think about is wanting to pull over and fish that beautiful water, not caring if I catch a bunch of 10 inchers or an 18 incher. Sadly I don't get to do it much anymore but like an old dog I still hear the call of the wild every time I see those clear little creeks.
