  1. The strong warm wind last night dramatically opened up some of the main lake. I will try to get out and about today and see if any ramps are open for launching.
  2. The snow melt is raising the lake level and the fresh water ring around the ice was skimmed over with ice this morning, and it never got below freezing last night, that water is COLD. The ice is looking very rotten on the main lake, if it gets enough open area to begin to flex in the wind it will break up, but the coves will be a while.
  3. I hear ya. I may have to make an attempt to stockton or below the dam at Truman just to fish, don't care if I catch anything or not. I cross Pomme dam every morning and evening on way to and from work. The patch of water was a little larger this morning but not much yet. Gonna be a while yet.
  4. If you are planning to launch a boat, just leave it at home. Only open water is a small hole out in front of dam, no ramps useable right now due to ice cover. Warm weather and wind will start to break it up soon but not as of this morning.
  5. Dutch, Mother Nature is in charge of putting water back in the lake. We can only let out about 110 CFS for now. Construction wise they have been lucky except for the cold, lake still about 3.5 ft low. With the warm weather on its way there will be some melt/run off. Hopefully the ice won't melt around the edge then big chunks start moving with the wind, that Really tears docks up. They hopefully will be pouring concrete next week. Targe Date for stilling basin work still April.
  6. Fishing is "hard", pun intended, only open water on lake is a small patch out from dam. Haven't heard of any ice fishing reports, and don't reccomend it with the warm weather and wind in the next few days. Prior to the ice up, there were some nice crappie being caught but all is on hold for now.
  7. A quick updated update for current winter conditions as of Monday 24 January, 2011. Unuseable: Heritage State Park, Nemo Landing, Pittsburg State Park Marina, Pittsburg Landing, Bolivar Landing, McCracken Bridge, Lightfoot Landing. Open: Pittsburg State Park (opens onto Pomme arm), Wheatland Landing, and The Harbor. Note: that is for this morning, as the weather warms during the week it may change some. By and large the two best bets to launch are Pittsburg State Park and Wheatland Landing. Please be careful as water from trailers may freeze on ramp and make it VERY slick. Also, Lindley arm is ice covered from about Nemo Park upstream, and Pomme arm is iced from just above 83 Marina or so. Many/most coves are iced in also. Haven't heard any fishing reports lately, so if someone goes post it up!!
  8. Here is a quick update on the status of Boat Ramps on Pomme de Terre. Bolivar: Open Pittsburg Landing (COE) Closed Pittsburg State Park Marina Closed Pittsburg State Park Main Ramp Open Nemo Park Open Hermitage State Park (Cedar Crest/Buttons Cove) Open. The Harbor Open. Wheatland Park Open Lightfoot park Open
  9. Trav: I have mentioned that idea before to MDC and a few others who have tried it in the past. The MDC doesn't want the tires permanently placed into the lake due to environmental concerns over leaching of chemicals out of the rubber. Yes I know they will be in the water anyway. Also after talking to others about how hard the things are to work with I am not sure I even want to try. I originally wanted to bolt them together and place them in mats in places that were prone to shoreline erosion and fill with gravel to hold the bank in place. But again its been done before and eventually the bolts pull through the tires and it alll comes apart. PS I was the one you talked to this morning on the phone, I just became of member of this site so I could post some ramp information, but will do it in a new post.
  10. I can count on one hand the number of white bass I have caught, seen caught or been reliably reported to be caught on Pomme this year. Not counting a few below the dam in the outlet that come up from Truman. There was a kill last fall but it didn't seem to be very large, however this spring there were none up either the Lindley or Pomme arms. There a LOT of small black bass that are having a heyday on small shad. If you haven't been out on the lake with it 5 feet low take a day and at least drive around it is amazing the stuff you can see.
