  1. I have an unused and in the box family sized tent. I bought the tent for a trip that got canceled, and then we bought a camper shortly after. I would like to trade it for a lightly used two person backpacking tent. My tent is a Coleman Tucana Tent, 16x10. Here is the link - http://www.amazon.co..._pr_product_top
  2. I fished just downstream of the park and was has doing good with a Royal Coachman and dropper in the riffles Sunday evening. One small brown and a handful of stockers. I was getting a ton a "nibbles" but nothing on.
  3. Lilley had a bunch of posts about his trip to Alaska just two or three weeks ago.
  4. I'm in the final stages of planning my first overnight float. My buddy and I have narrowed it down to the Big Piney and Meramec. I'm looking at starting at the Boiling Springs (rm 25.8) and taking out at Slabtown (rm 40.8). Can anyone speak to the quality and length of this float, camping, and fishing for this stretch? Boiling Springs called this the "trophy run", but I figured that was good salesmanship. We hope to be on the river by 10:00 a.m. and off by six or seven pm the next day. Thanks In Advance, Mic
  5. I spent Labor Day weekend in the Sand Springs Resort RV section right outside Bennett across the river. I would give it rate it six out of ten for RVs (less if I was tent camping). This site has so much potential, but (it appears) the sites focus is on the hotel side of things. Positives: 1. Location, Location, Location. The site has direct access to the river just down from inflow of Bennett Springs. The site had a nice riffle, run, and pulled in which we caught quite a few fish. 2. The owners were nice. Negative: 1. RV campers with access to the rest room, shower, and the gray tank to hold over are alright as the site doesn't have a shower house. The site uses port-a-potties for bathroom access. I found out later the "shower room" was in the pool area. I checked it out, and it sucked considering it was inside the hotel section of the resort. Basically, add a nice shower building and this site goes way up to a eight or nine. 2. Some sites had fire rings and some didn't. This was most evident at the dump station where some tent campers started a fire right on top it. The downspout looks like a simple covered vent hole. 3. It was pretty nosy in the mornings as the canoe trailers were coming and going. All in all, stay at the park if you can unless you're completely self sufficient in an RV.
  6. I'm at BSP...what size rebel craw for fiver smallmouth...teeny or wee?
  7. It has happened to me twice. I used to love popping the five/six inch Rapala floating minnows back home when I was a kid. Then I learned how to "walk the dog" and never went back.
  8. Try the two low end Ross reel. I think it is called the fly rise.

    New Camera!

My advice would be follow the other ones posted above...and...buy a top line and "fast" lense as soon as you can. Your ability to take pictures improves greatly when you get high quality lens with a smaller or fast F-Stop because you get more light into the Cmos Chip which improves overall color and fast action pics. If you take more landscape pics focus on a wide angle. If not, go with a standard lens or even a macro. I'm a pentex guy, but a quick search found this inexpensive 35mm f1.8 for under $200. It isn't a zoom, but with 16.2 megapixels you can do a lot of crop and zooming with your computer. http://www.nikonusa....f%252F1.8G.html
  10. Have any members stayed at Charlie's Rainbow Trout Resort on the Norfolk river below the dam. Did you like it?
  11. Thanks Eric...that is what I needed to know.
  12. All, A couple of buddies of mine and I are working on plans to "get away from the crowds". We have been talking about multiple sites but come back to the headwaters of the Upper Jacks Fork (Prong to Buck Hollow). Al was telling me we would do a lot of dragging this time of year (which is fine). The questions came up, can we just turn it into a two day hike, wade, camp, and fish. None of us have been there, so I ask the question to the locals and regulars. Are there any places up that way where you will have to have a canoe and one can't wade through three or four feet of water? If you can we should have it to ourselves. Thanks In Advance, Mic
  13. ...and they probably know how to care of the fish during release.
  14. Yea, I searched for a picture of an emerger to find out what the body color was. I was going to match the color in silk and tie on the starling. I can only find the adult and the pupa. The pupa is a yellowish orange color, but I don't know if it keeps that color during emergence. I guess I should add a couple of 18 orange and starlings to the box. http://bugguide.net/node/view/263986/bgimage
  15. I would add the shadow of your fly rod.
  16. I would agree, but I normally fish the smaller streams where stealth is a bigger issue. I personally wear earth tones or camo hunting shirts. I would think it is more critical fishing down stream then up.
  17. Good Carma.
  18. Thanks JD. I tied two like this and two with (I think it was called) spade hackle. If there is a hatch I thought about tying the dry fly hackle on the front and the wet fly hackle on an 8 inch dropper. I guess we will see if either one works.
  19. Here is my version. Lets hope there is a hatch to fish to on Labor Day Weekend at Bennett. The hatch chart shows them as a Sept-Oct hatch so I will probably be a little early. Your critiques are requested. Black Caddis Wet Fly Hook: Dai-Riki #075, Size 18 Thread: Black 8/0 Body: Thread Back Wing: Black Marabou Front Wing: Starling
  20. Anyone got a wet fly for black caddis hatches. This is the only one I could find. Black Stone fly Tied by: vadi nasskott Size 16 Tiemco 100BL hook. Superfine black dubbing for body CDC feather for wing Black hackle for feet Black No. 8 thread I saw this fly originally tied on television as a flying ant by Mike Lawson,Henry Fork's Anglers,Island Park,Idaho.I leave off the zlon wing(which normally would be tied on before the cdc feather),and I use a size 16 or 18 hook when I tie for the black caddis hatch.1 tie this fly in brown and grey also for different caddis hatches with varying size hooks. The cdc feather is normally the color of the body but sometimes grey is a good wing color.
  21. Thanks all...I'll try em out once the water cools a little or at Bennett over Labor Day.
  22. Good luck, God Speed. Be sure to post if you get a chance to hit some of the Mountain streams.
  23. Same question here??
  24. I ended up buying a FISHPOND YELLOWSTONE WADER-DUFFEL BAG. It worked great. What was still damp (or smelled fishy) when I left was put in the bottom, and was dry when I got home. Pluses are that the bag was big inside and has good size side pockets. All of mine and my wife's wading gear fit in it plus my whole tackle bag. Negatives: My four piece rod did not fit it and it has no rollers. Overall, I would recommend it and glad I bought it.
