  1. Not to hijack your thread, but does one need 100% wool or will a poly/wool blend keep you warm (in case you get wet)?
  2. Assuming you can only afford one day of guide work... yes.
  3. During the season (Apr - Oct), you access LP (the blue ribbon section) from the campground south of Rolla. In the off season, you can hike the BIG hill from the gate to the campground, or better yet, from a pull off on the Hwy bridge just below campground entrance. Reference your trip... one man's opinion, I would stay on one river both days. The first day with the guide and get the lay of the land. The second day retracing your steps.
  4. So how about them Cardinals? What to soon?
  5. I agree with everything you say with one exception... maybe. I would "assume" that if the jury would not have found them guilty of "arson" if they simply had a fire get away from them (twice mind you). If the jury believed they set the fires with the intent to go onto the public lands, then the hell with them. Send them back. If that was not the case, then I agree with you.
  6. jtram... I would agree with you, but Bundy isn't there calling for their release. He is calling for the government to sell the land to the locals. HOWEVER - PS... I assume you are on the conservative side of the political spectrum. NOTE... the reason they are going back is because of mandatory minimum sentences were not applied the first time. These were put in place because "liberal judges had to much flexibility in sentencing (during the big drug wars of the late 80/early 90s)". It would seem to me, we (myself included) can't have it both ways, one for urban youth and one for a rancher. Second note... He was found guilty by a juror of his peers... I assume it probably included some rural land owners. Final note... there are reports the first fire was an attempt to cover up poaching. Now, that wasn't proven in court.
  7. I would agree with Eric82... You also have Mill Creek in that "general area". In reference to trout parks, you can find peace and your own water if you get away from the easy to access areas (with the exception of Meramec Springs) and not go in the early morning. Fishing is a little harder, but not as hard a wild trout water.
  8. The federal government has owned the land since the Louisiana purchase. Individuals have bought the land or received it through land grants (for example the homesteader act). Over the years, they have bought some back for national parks and such. As I understand it, which could be wrong, the cattle barrens that ran those counties used the land for free for there cattle for as long as there have been cattle there. I "think" it was Teddy Roosevelt who started to put restrictions on the land for conservation purposes, and the restrictions have grown from there. Ironically, the area they are in now (as I have read) is restricted because it is a wet land that support bird migrations. Here is my concern... if the government sales "our land" back to "the people" then it will only go to the rich or worse to corporate farms. It isn't going to go to the small rancher that really needs the lands to support his/her family. Working for the government for as long as I have, I'm sure "we the people" have over done it. I would respect them more and be willing to listen more if they were using "sit in" type tactics, but as I said before they are terrorists who just haven't killed anyone yet.
  9. I'm tired of hearing that he isn't a terrorist. He is the differentiation of one: Using violence or the threat of violence to reach a political outcome. Part of me says go in and clear them out, not matter the cost; but my head reminds me I (having a family close call in OKC) don't want to inspire another Tim McVay.
  10. I watched this today. This pattern intrigues me, with or without tenkara rod. It would be a mix of dry fly, wet, and emerger. I really like the addition of the shuck. I might try to tie some as part of my simple fly box.
  11. Reminder to all you tiers... the window for this fly swap will close at the end of the month.
  12. Nice. Thanks for sharing.

Simple wet midge... Red midge hook. This is a size 20. Black thread. Simply two turns of peacock herl and a starling feather. Of all the ones I have done, I'm most interested in seeing how this works. Sorry the pic is blurry. You get the idea :).

The simple scud. I don't know why but BSC trout love this color scud. Took my old recipe and used new techniques from book. 14 size scud hook. Five so wraps of lead. Ice dubbing pheasant colored dubbed on x-small brass wire. No thread some super glue. Use tag end of the base wrap to rib it.

Next fly... A simple wet yellow stone. It is a 4x size 10 streamer hook. Oyster and Yellow Ochre Jamieson Shetland Spindrift yarn and the biggest partridge I could find. Again the pic does not do the yarn it's due credit, but when you twist them together it looks good. What I need is pheasant feathers. Can anyone send me some spares? I'll share some yarn. Anyway... Can't wait to try it.

No clue. These are mainly for Blue Springs Creek so I try to keep them lighter than river flies. Can't wait to find out. Ron told me that he used to tie these and they were not durable. So use super glue.
  21. Very true.
  22. 12ft Accend.

I twisted it quite a bit. Provides segmentation. IMO.
