  1. I tried to go out to Stone Mill on Saturday, but the road to it was closed. It was late in the day so I moved out the east gate. I stopped at Spring Creek to check it out. There was one really deep hole upstream of the bridge with good rock in it. Is there more like that?
  2. I made it out to Mill Creek on Saturday, and it just isn't the same. The water is so low and gin clear there just isn't much space of any kind to hide fish from predators. My trips before there was iffy water were you catch some small ones, but some good holes with colored water that you really took your time to fish. Now with the exception of a couple of large tree balls in the creek, nothing that I saw. At least at BSC the runs are only a few feet apart so they go deep. At Mill they are 20 feet apart and no real deep water. I'll be back some day, but not for a while.
  3. Well, I was able to make it out on Sunday morning for just a couple of hours. I caught one and missed one swinging wet flies and missed another on hare's ear drifting. I didn't make it down river to test out new techniques from the other thread, but still had a good time. There was one gent downriver from me, was curious if he is on here. I'll be back Thursday to try again. I did talk to the park office, they did but browns in the river. Happy C&R.
  4. l talked to the Post outdoor recreation folks. Yes you do have to gain access from inside the post, but they are doing some maintenance on the stream right now. So I might take my daughter and check it out. If it sucks we can walk/wade the banks of the Big Piney or hoop over to Mill. My girl doesn't care if she is catching trout, chubs, bluegill, or bass. Quick note, the road on the delivery truck uses has been fixed, the NFS website is out of date.
  5. Does anyone know if the Stone Mill area is on Army property or is it public. MO Trout Hunter gives direction through the fort/post, but it looks like public roads take you there on Google Maps..
  6. Is it a C&R lake?
  7. Scott... I got your back, but quit being a fishing snob. I've have some great days with my daughter fishing winter trout pond. Some of don't live 15 minutes away from moving water worth a darn.
  8. Griffith's Gnat has always been my go to fly. Only problem is you can't really drop anything off of it.
  9. Give me some advance notice and let's see what we can figure out. Drop me a pm any time.
  10. Where you at. How about you keep your rod and share your 55 years of experience. I'll show you places I know and love for trout.
  11. If I make it I will. However, the following weekend is opening of Deer (gun) season. I made the mistake of going a few years back. If not taking a break from hunting, I would hit C&R at one of the trout parks.
  12. I'm glad to here. I'm hoping to make a handful of C&R trips this year.
  13. Thought that I would let you know... Monday I posted three new threads and updated one from the weekend. When I filter for content I started and content I commented only two of the four show up. Reading a river (Meramec) and Dear Hunters (Wild Trout Streams) don't show up and Closing Day and Hellgrammit Try Two do. I don't "think" I was able to see updates to the missing two in the unread filter, but I could be wrong on that.
  14. Thanks gents... I figured they would be back up in the woods, but I don't hunt. So wanted to double check.
  15. It isn't my first pick either, but I was camping right outside the park with a limited window. And yes, I do like a challenge sometimes and quite water on others.
  16. Gavin... I disagree. It is a "Park". It is supposed to look like a golf course. I also like the shop as they have a little of everything for everyone. I agree about the C&R area, but I've been told no way to enforce it (I think is crap). I think the area from the first rock darn down to but above the big hole should be CR.
  17. Alright I'll jump in. I'm a casual observer at best. Over the last five or so years haven't the parks been updating their stocking runs...and...hasn't that limited the number of fish available to stock in the first place. In the early 2000s wasn't the take home amount per day in the parks lower then now. I thought I remember reading here that forced more fished to be released so they have to release them smaller to keep up?
  18. I don't want anyone's secret honey hole (send IM... LOL). What I would like to know is how to read the rivers. My only positive experience on rivers was in Montana. There if the water was green or a decent riffle there was fish, and it became about fly and presentation. Here it seems like there is a ton of dead water. For example on the Meramec below the spring, there is the big hole and there are fish there. Down stream, there is a lot of water with green water here and there and some fast moving sections below riffles, but I never see much less catch anything. I never had anything positive happen until dry fork. So what am I looking for, what do I fish, what to I skip. I'm headed back to the Meramac this weekend and looking for some help.
  19. I took the wife and daughter to Meramec Springs for closing day. Like most Dads, fishing suffers from untangling lines and keeping everyone happy, but I caught a nice 15-18 inch rainbow on a wire wet fly of mine. Not much luck after that, but I was focusing on trying to get my daughter into one when the rain came. They (family) were done after that. Everyone was talking about how tough it was but I saw a lot of decent fish on stringers.
  20. Hey all... I know I have a "right" to fish Mill creek with my daughter next weekend Nov 7th, but I also don't want some idiot sticking an arrow through one of us. Will the deer hunters be off the creek up in the woods. Should I even risk it.
  21. Well I tried the fly this weekend. I think I will have to try again. It rides upside down. Oh well. Try number three here we come.
  22. Jealous. Thanks for the report and pics.
  23. Phil... At least on my phone... The pics at the top of the page sucks. I can't scroll pass them without clicking on them over and over. Makes the site useless for me. Two thumbs down ?.
  24. Thanks
  25. Congrats... only 24 years to go.
