  1. You can get some darn nice rods and reels by checking the for sale sections on FAOL forums as well as flytyingforum and rodbuilding forum. People are always buying and selling equipment at bargain prices. I recently picked up a custom built Winston Vapor rod for $95 including shipment. That rod retailed for $315 several years ago. You can often get complete rod, reel and line packages. Dave
  2. Don't know if this has been posted before, but if it has I missed it. Just read where Chuck passed away in February. He died of a heart attack in California where he moved a couple of years ago to be near his daughter. He was 72. The article I read said he actually died while tying 20 dozen flies for donation to a charity. Dave
  3. I notice Bass Pro has their XPS batteries on sale for $85 ($10 off). I'm in the market for a couple of new ones for my trolling moter and was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with these. Dave On looking at the ad again, I notice it says "new". So there might not be a history on this particular model. However, their XPS brand has been around for a while so I'm wondering what experience people have had with them.
  4. Columbia,Mo TV station reported that a lot of docks at the Lake of The Ozarks were heavily damaged. Dave
  5. In Justin's defense, I ordered a reel from him sometime back and though it was on backorder, I did get it. I might add that there was a minor glitch in the order (I won't go into the details) but he made it right. And I was extremely pleased in the manner that he made it right. I might add that they appear to be darn nice reels for the money though I've not actually used them yet. It's hard to lawn cast when I can't find my lawn anymore! Dave
  6. Before you try that, you might try using a flashlight in a dark room to see the hole. If you think you know about where the leak is, go into a pitch dark room and shine the light from inside the waders and you can see the light come thru. Worked for me on some hip boots. Dave
  7. The older Prestige reels were made by Okuma, in fact the spools are interchangable. Not sure about the Prestige Plus but it's probably also made by Okuma. They are pretty decent reels for the money. I've used them for years with no problem. Dave
  8. I'll second the Bass Pro Extreme. I've had one for several years with no problem. I bought it at the catalog outlet store in Springfield for half price ($40). Dave
  9. Must be a darn nice map for $20.
  10. You might check Sand Springs resort and Charlie Reading's flyshop. Not sure if either rents waders but they might. Larry's used too and may still. As stated above, he's open weekends. Dave
  11. I got one too and have to agree-looks like a very nice reel. Dave
  12. If he is a semi-god in North Korea, maybe the state dept. should hire him to go over there and talk some sense into those folks before they start WWlll. Dave
  13. Yea, that's a good looking fly. Actually that is Sister Carol who is well known around the FFF Southern Council folks. She generally attends the Conclave and Sowbug Roundup in Mountain Home. She does a lot of work with young kids teaching them tying and flyfishing. Dave
  14. Actually I read it every day. Guess I just missed her articles. Your description of the paper is pretty accurate. Dave
  15. I bet that's right. A chamois has a very strange, almost lifelike, feel to it when it's wet-sort of slimey. Most are tan in color too which is closer to some aquatic worms. Dave
  16. You're right Zipstick, it was Tim's article I recalled about the Roland Martin show. Tim had a lot of good articles in the paper. I ran into him a few times at Mark Twain Lake. Sadly there are very few hunting or fishing articles in the paper anymore. Some girl had a few articles after Tim, but she didn't last long. Guess they couldn't figure out how to put a liberal slant on hunting and fishing so they just dropped it. Dave
  17. What BASS did he buy? Do you mean the Bassmasters? Speaking of Hollywood dickering with the program reminded me of a story in the St Louis Post years ago. Someone wrote in and said he and his wife were fishing a lake somewhere and saw Roland Martin taping a show. Said he saw a scuba diver out of view attaching big bass from a wire cage to his hook to appear that he was catching them. I always suspected Bill Dance used the same tactic. He catches more five pounders in a half hour show than I do all season! Dave
  18. If you are ever in Lamar, Mo (about 35 miles north of Joplin) stop in the old Jim Rogers bait and tackle store. The walls are absolutely covered with trophys and awards he won over the years. Another old name not mentioned is Jerry McGinnis (sp?). He used to have a good show also and was one of the early ones. Don't know if he is still alive or not. Dave
  19. I agree with Al Agnew on the Bass Pro waist high waders. I bought a pair a couple of years ago and found them to be very nice in fit and comfort. I think I paid around $60 on sale. Unfortunately, I think they are going to discontinue them. I was in their Columbia store earlier this year and bought the only pair they had on a closeout for $40. Not sure if they are planning to sell another brand or not. Dave
  20. Look likes it took a great picture. Dave
  21. I fished Friday afternoon and most of Saturday. Weather was great except for off and on wind. I was surprised at the rather small crowd considering the warm weather. Fishing was quite good although size was generally small. Caught about 50 or so mostly on a Bedspread jig in zone 2 between the outlet and the whistle bridge. Also got several in zone 3. Caught a few on a crackleback also. Dave
