    Welcome to the board Newbie. I live in Mexico,Mo and also fish the parks and Taney. In fact, I'm heading down to Bennett in the morning for a couple of days. I didn't realize that they did not stock Bethel Park in Columbia last year. We have a lake here in Mexico which they also stock for winter fishing-you may want to come over and give it a try sometime. It's in Plunkett park. Dave

    It's true that state funds are in a pinch. Any layoffs at MDC would be due to fiscal funding problems. However, the 1/8% sales tax was to be earmarked for acqisitions, not day to day operations. As stated above, the park could probably be had for a reasonable amount of money as I'm sure whatever bank is holding it would like to get rid of it. Anyway, it was just a thought. I sure hope it doesn't go private for some rich dude's private little park. We're getting too many Ted Turners and Robert Redfords buying up property in this country now. Dave

    Yes, that's a shame as it was always a beautiful park although I also was never impressed with the fishing. I wonder if MDC is at all interested in getting it? Whoever now owns it is probably anxious to get rid of it. Maybe a grass roots petition to get MDC to buy it would be in order. Dave

    Anybody know what the prices run on Larry's. I've never stayed there but you can't beat the location. By the way, that place next door that used to be Hillbilly's Burgers is now under new people and their BBQ is very good. Dave

    Yea, I agree. I think they have remodeled most of the rooms and also upgraded the cable TV (more stations). The coffee pots and fridge are a nice touch too. I stayed at Vogel's once a long time ago and it was a dump in my opinion. Have you ever stayed at Larry's? I've never stayed there but have intended to. I think their units are more expensive though.     A sad state of affairs for sure. I'm amazed that noone noticed your pick-up being broken into right in front of the park store. You would have thought there were other people around the area. Dave

    Thanks guys. I didn't realize that they had hotel type rooms there. At $72 per night, they seem a little pricey compared to other places in the area. Dave

    It appears that the whole Cabela's operation is kind of hurting. There was a very negative investment report on them in a recent Barron's. What surprised me was that the article stated that last year half of their net income came from their Vista credit card business. That doesn't speak well. I was recently in their Hazlewood (St Louis) store and also thought that the flyfishing dept. had been downsized. Dave

    As I recall the original body was dubbed and he later started using turkey rounds. There's about a thousand variations of this fly now it seems. Every color body and hackle one can think of. Dave

    I'll third it. I ate there last night and the night before and the ribs are very good. Very handy when you are fishing Bennett as it is close by and they stay open till 9:00. But don't rely on there "bathroom". It's nothing but one of those portable outhouses way outside in the back. They also have a sink to wash your hands outside. I actually thought Missouri law required all restaurants to have a bathroom inside. Dave
