  1. That's hitting him where it counts. I would have been tempted to wade to the middle of the hole and try to catch fish with my net. Or maybe start yelling that he was shuffling so his clients could catch fish. Shuffler, Shuffler, SHUFFLER!!!
  2. Can you tie a fly with 4 wings on a size 30 hook?
  3. The answer to that question is always yes, you need that rod! How many pairs of shoes does she own? Purses? this list could go on and on.

Ok, so I went to one of the doorbusters with the wife on Black Friday, more as a self defense against her shopping and wound up buying a handheld GPS unit for myself. Now upon getting home, I learned that I will have to buy maps to load on this thing if I want to see more than interstates and highways. Is this normal? What maps would be best? Any advice would be helpful. The model I bought was a Garmin Etrex Cx.
  6. I have to agree, with John, wife goes shopping, you go fishing, and catch plenty to boot. That is some seriously good karma, or something.
  7. Not taking sides on this one, but seems they have a problem up north. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21956685/

  9. You must have had a good divorce attorney to only charge her 50 cents a bug.
  10. Have you written a book I can buy, or do you run a 2 week camp for wives who have forgotten how to work?
  11. Me too, my wife goes to the gym, I'm going fishing! Maybe we could start a class and call it something like pilates in a cold stream.
  12. Nice pics and a great swap everyone!
  13. Lilley's Landing has a better selection, imo. Also has more variety than most in the materials I use. I've been to Branson 3 times this year, and Phil has been out of town all 3 times. Not sure what is hours are, but he'll have what you need.
  14. Dano - silly question, do you have a pic of the harvester midge, or a pattern description?
  15. a senseless tradgedy
  16. Mine came in the mail today. Great looking group of flies. I was hoping Leonard would send his PMS, any chanc of posting the recipe or at least a pic?
  17. Was the rod and reel in the slot or did you have to throw it back? Funny!
  18. Tim- I tied the WD40, sorry about the lack of tags, I posted the recipe and how I fish in an earlier post. Glad you've enjoyed success using them.
  19. Congratulations on the new fishing partner. Well done!
  20. You get what you pay for, sometimes there are bargains, and sometimes not. Are you going to be happy if the fly you paid $0.59 for looks like it. When I had been flyfishing for less than 6 months, I purchased from the Flyshack(?) or another online discount fly emporium. To me the fly's don't look right, and a trout is more picky than I am. I have found that if you get in on a fly swap or two you can pick up some good patterns on local waters used by those who fish them. You can then take the pattern and use it as a model and replicate the patterns until you get as many as you need.
  21. I usually buy online, from local shops at the water I frequent. I also try to stop by and pick some up in person when onsite. That being said, I tie over 90% of the flies I actually fish with, so I buy more materials than actual flies. The local fly shop, may be more expensive, but I always get a warm cup of coffee (on the house) and a place to take a break. Knowledge about current conditions as well as tips and advice that you can't get from Sri Lanka or China. Think about the wealth of knowledge shared on this website.
  22. Zach - thanks for the report. I am planning on fishing the Illinois either Friday or Saturday. I know from a buddy who fished the LMF that small grey mayflies were hatching the past week, he said a size 24 to 26, and tons of them, fish were going crazy.
  23. Yes, you certainly do look at things differently. Taking your kids to the zoo. The animals and exotic birds you see, what to do if should walk upon a feather that has fallen out. My wife has said "don't even think about it" a time or two. Roadkill has new meaning. Driving back from Missouri this past week, I noticed at least 5 deer who were lying beside the road on the turnpikes, the possibiliities are endless.
  24. We have a cat that some would call black, but to me it is more smoky colored. I'll brush the cat and use the fur I pull off for dubbing. Makes a great scud and nymph patterns. The wife suspects that I do this only for tying purposes and not for the benefit of the cat, I think it is a mutually beneficial relationship.
  25. I picked up an WF8F Rio Grand at the outlet in Springfield over the weekend.
