We went tonight and caught 2 more same size. 5ft from the bank on minnows. barely knew you had anything on. Put a pic on tomorrow.

Yesterday I get a call from my nephew and his friend saying they catching alot of crappie at suson park here in st.louis. I have caught a few the first couple years the trout program started when didnt have time to go anywhere far in the winter and have actually seen some big ones come out. They show up here to show them to me and use my filet knife and I hear the friend say he caught a striper. Kinda laughed and was trying to think what he is confused with. They bring the fish to me and there in front of me is 12 small male crappie and a 10inch hybrid. Now either they are being used to eat on the shad in the ponds or it just slipped in the batch of fish. Searched online but just fast read some articles with nothing saying anything clear. Does not even show crappie as listed. Going tomorrow later to see if its possible to catch another and to read the signs.

Coming from a shoal runner owner, I use mine very rarely but when I do i the rivers its on the lower ends where people are using props and a canoe would be insane for fishing since there is no current. I remember seeing a few from a distace in the mid 80s but all above then caves but will never forget being in a canoe ot far from the springs on the mec and it was real narrow and here came a small outboard jet with a 115hp and didnt bother to slow down and came less then 10ft of us. Almost fell out with the waves, could not belive one was that far upstream. I think once you get to the caves it gets to narrow along with alot of people in the water. Trouble waiting to happen.

For your stripers and white I use my typical version but after you make a basic version dip again into whole milk or cream and then roll in crushed potato chips. Gives it a nice crunch and the salt. I like the spicy flavors.

Any small lure will work especially if you fish the areas shaped like long rectangles made of cement. guaranteed a limit.

I know they are not closed now, just at one 4 days ago. Just schedueled to be if they cant figure out a 20 plus million deficit. My taxes have gone up 500 in the past 4 years while the value of the house has gone down, thinking the appraiser needs to get his eyes checked or slow down down enough to get a accurate number. Next year im getting the walk through. What would the situation be with the animals at the parks if it did happen, volunteers and donations? As for the deer in the lincoln, seen worse, a friend used natures fridge for 2 days with a hyundai and the hatch did not close all the way. Funny watching him show up to work 2 days straight with the head hanging and the tongue sticking out and him driving around st.louis casual. Only have the mental picture to share.

Not sure if this topic is in another forum or it got added to the locked grateful for what we have one. Lately the past few weeks the coverage on the news of the 23 parks in the st.louis area being closed to budget cuts Some of those being, Lone Elk George Winter Greensfelder Suson Park which a friend recently caught a 12lb rainbow out of. They are thinking of possibly turning them over to the city in which each park resides in. ashame to see this happen especially with the urban trout program. Not to mention a good boat launch and rec area. =(

As for them having a high value of common carp. Some here right along with them thought the same way in the late 1800s and decided to stock them here to take alot of the pressure off and expand opportunty with all our real estate. Around the same time is when the trout were tested into our streams. I know it was different groups but they got the choice of fish half right.

Its been the 90s since I fished it and remembered some azzhats on 4 wheelers flying around in and across the creek. Then like a year later someone was talking about having them banned because it messed with the spawning of the smallies. Anyone know if that ever went through or they still tearing up the stream?

I remember in the early 90s in the niangua arm crappie fishing and saw a few of those beast feeding by the surface and was casting over the top of there back and snagging them with 4lb line. after 30 mins of playing and resting my arms first one was 27lbs. bad thing was it stretched my line out so much the whole day was pulling nest out of my spool.

I used to finese fish only back in the late 80s and understand what you mean. A good way is to have a rod with your smaller baits and depending how much tackle you have and if your in a boat put on some medium and some large. Use common sense where the bigger work and fish them. When the fishing is hot or go to a small pond with alot of small bass and throw them on and start catching them and building confidence in what your throwing. I brought my ultra light rods with me when I started fishing tourneys in the 90s and some of the guys gave me sht for it. Time and place for everything. Like above confidence in what your throwing is everything.
