  1. I was going to say that about pickerel also, used to catch those fishing for crappie at duck creek. while sitting inside while it snows decided to find my old missouri fishes book i have not read in probally 23 years which got me thinking about all this. and it shows northerns on the meramec the same place ive caught the only one in my life. remember talking to the guy that owned the canoe rental place after we got back about it and him telling me about how many he caught in years past. as for muskie in streams, says they are in the creek below indian trails hatchery that escaped when it floods. says they were first introduced to missouri in 1965 http://mdc.mo.gov/fishing/fish-catch/game-fish/muskie
  2. sounds like a handful if you got some. walleye sounds tough with a fly unless they were shallow and the fishing was excellent.
  3. The MDC has dabbled with stocking muskie in area lakes for over 30 years and know that reproduction is likely to be about 0 in missouri. northern pike though are found in missouri and do reproduce naturally here especially in the upper parts of streams like the meramec. with characteristics, size, feeding habits about the same. suprised they didnt put more emphasize in them instead. especially in the cool clear lakes of the ozarks and the others with similar water with chance of them possibly create there own small to normal population without needing to be restocked or as often. If theres something im overlooking please enlighten me.
  4. I use ones you cant buy anymore. the garland heads in 3/8 an 1/2 with the offset hooks. I like them better so I can make them weedless without have to use the pain in the azz screws. going to get a mold made. the weight is flat on the side of the jig and the other has a very slight curve. I think im going to have it turned so it slows the fall a some and create a little flutter. I will put a pic on here later.
  5. love both, ky you dont have to fish as deep and use as light line, then again you get the lovely rollers from the barge traffic.
  6. hell yeah, my neighbor used to tear them up 20 years ago.
  7. poppers, the kids can see and cast them easier.
  8. pete has to be hilarious in person.
  9. the only fly outfit i have ever owned is the hobbs creek and it works fine. you said your new it should be work good enough until you feel its the equipment holding you back from stepping up to the next level. then again this is coming from a guy who does most of his fly fishing with a spinning reel on a 5ft rod casting it like a fly rod.
  10. im kinda pissy about them selling flouro in 200yd spools considering all my spinning reels hold 280 or more of the line sizes i use, yeah its a alright idea but i dont like the sticking when you tie the 2 in your casting. i use 3 different line sizes and im not buying bulk spools of 3 diff at that monster price along with my mono. what happend to the good days of 300yd and 330yd sizes.
  11. if its still around in mid april im on it, coming on a trip then and will have a truck
  12. either there is a prob or people cant read L0L
  13. nope, its right here. i sent you a messege i will post sold when the motor is gone, serious people only please
  14. you said bass though, are these looking more sunfish shape or black bass? http://www.tnfish.org/PhotoGalleryFish_TWRA/FishPhotoGallery_TWRA/pages/MeanmouthBassHybridSmallmouthSpottedNorrisNegus_jpg.htm this is what they show for them as for warmouth we have those at my lake property, i know they are bad like green sunfish for the lake. i think they are bad butt though, i caught one 12 inches long over 15 years ago under a dock. it was almost solid black with a crappie sized mouth. most of them out there are camo colored, just depends where you catch them.
  15. I remember my first mean mouth, I was like wow what a catch and just gorgeous to look at. until she showed her teeth 2 months into our relationship. can not belive i stayed with her almost a year. that was 12 years ago, have not fished for them since. true story.
  16. may is a good time to start, all kinds of baits work since they are hungry and moving up thinking about the spawn. minnows and baitfish are good in the spring. i also use shrimp or dehydrated hot dogs. where on the river do you plan on fishing, and are you going for channel, blue or flathead?
  17. if you go to catawissa and you look at the maps before walk around through the woods there are many smaller lakes and little ponds that are clear enough to see whats in them before you get close to them. ive never seen anyone at the smallers ones and tore up the bass in them. the main ones and the river area is definatley tube perfect. not to mention ive caught lots of nice crappie and white bass there.

  19. water looks nice and clear. last time i fished 21 no trout but caught our limit in catfish people looked stunned. how deep were they fishing?
  20. hell ya, the tiny craw was killing them compared to the normal size in the shallow and deep running. Al, like you were saying about the summer and top water, 85 percent of all those ive caught on top were in the summer especially early in the morning on the outer banks by the bass grass where deeper water hits. i still fished them during the day but the size of them goes down. if you get overcast or rain coming in tell your gf or wife sex can wait.
  21. sorry for the hornets nest
  22. I remember going on a float in 1990 and putting in at huzzah valley and fishing where the spring comes in. fishing from our canoe while waiting for the others with the the tiny rebel craw in the natural green color and in less then 5 mins caught a nice rainbow, and 2 smallies, one was about 12 and the second over 15, in the process of holding it up to show off being a 16yr old it jumped out of my hand with my lure still attached and broke the line. all i had left was 2 brown ones. they did not produce as many that the other does from all my other floats before. its been the old go to when other things are slow. i love using it as a topwater in the side pools just shaking it and not bring it under. as for other lures. tiny torpedo has landed me the second most along with my biggest 4" worms in drop shot especially in natural colors all soft plastic craw baits work great at night time all black 1/2oz. - 3/4oz. spinnerbait, hang on tight though your rod will get taken out of your hand if not ready
  23. thanks, I knew that you would lay it out in detail, greatly appreciated
  24. I was reading a post about floating around union. you were giving your description about bass in the area. I always have wondered but never asked over the last 15-20 years what caused the big spotted bass explosion in that time?
