Can you imagine what a good time we used to have in the Chama and Jemez Springs areas in the mid-1950s before they were so commercialized. I loved it.

Where in NM and CO? I used to hit those places myself.

I think i just found another favorite book!

There are many I would recommend. Here's a few The Bible. "Mean As Hell"....The autobiography of Dee Harkey, a Texas Ranger who went to New Mexico when it was the badlands, trying to instill some law and order. True story that will grab you. I knew the sons and grandsons of one of the NM ranchers he wrote about. And...."Transcending the Natural" which is at the printers right now. I have read the manuscript a dozen times at least. Will be available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, hopefully by Christmas, I know the Author.

Why Would A Purple And Olive Green Woolybugger Catch Fish ?
chambug replied to timsfly's topic in Roaring River State Park
Awwwww, come on guys....you know it's a conspiracy. Some trout play dumb so the "big fish" holdin' the fly rod gets hooked. -
Very true!

How Far Are You Willing To Drive To Fish?
chambug replied to Greasy B's topic in General Angling Discussion
I'm in north Tx and have driven to Taneycomo many times, but we stay for a week most of the time. I get about 30 hours fishing for a 20 hour round trip. -
Up until recently, i played golf a lot. Shot some in the high 60's. If it got any colder than that....I stayed home!

OK guys, I appreciate a little humor, and the exhibitionists and streakers are funny, but they are also often sick and ill-motivated, but i hope this topic does not become mundane and trite because of such tales. Please stay on the primary subject.

Laker: You should make it a point to fish some of the trout waters of NM, Co, and Az. If you drive through the panhandle of OK, you are in northern NM, and a few miles from southern CO. Then it's not much farther to eastern AZ. All of these areas abound with trout waters, and you will see some of the most beautiful country in America. Do like we've had to do....plan for it and save your money. I guarantee you will be glad you did. Go for it, Young'un!

Hey brother Dave.....Thanks for the comeback. Sounds like you're hooked by the very "animals" you're trying to hook.

Thanks stlfisher. Is it just me, or does everyone's fishing heretage mean so much? You guys are telling me things that sure make my old heart feel good. I got the fishin' bug from my dad....just one of the many good things he prompted me to do in my life. I'll tell you about my early start one of these days.

Laker: In '49 I was a high school student in Albuquerque, NM.....fishing places like Chama, Jemez Springs, Twin Lakes, Red River Canyon, and the upper Rio Grand. That was when I really got into fly fishing. Then I got into bass and was chin-drippin' avid about bass for a number of years, until my son got me back into fly fishin' six years ago.

Good information, AZ Trout! Next time I go to Az I may have to borrow my gear from my son and try it. I really am not inclined to give up on the Apache....the thought of catching one is creating riffles and eddies and stong currents in my blood flow. My "peacemaker" may have to work extra hard. Thanks for the info!

Thanks! I'm proud of my family....and i'm proud of my extended family - guys like you.

Ozark Anglers (the site), and anglers who are not necessarily Ozark, never cease to amaze me. I felt like a lot of you would enjoy "telling your story" about your life's fishing experience(s). I was right. You are putting some of the best stuff on here that i've ever read about the fishing heretage that is a part of so many of our lives. I'm flattered and flabbergasted, but don't stop....you have given me a greart deal of pleasure. Collectively, we could be a very significant part of any publication that promotes fishing. Keep it up, but put a new dimension with it....tell us how you have gotten your own children and grandchildren involved in the wondersome sport of fishing.

I never said it would be easy. Maybe next year my son will back the pickup up to a good spot so I can fish off the tailgate. I feel confident that somehow, someday, I'll have the opportunity to hook into one. If and when I do, you will CERTAINLY HEAR ABOUT IT!!!!!

<<This is really roughin' it! <<Little Colorado River <<This is awesome trout country. <<How many trout do you see? This lirttle stream produced our limits in less than an hour. <<One of the most beautiful trout streams I have ever seen, south of Hon-Dah, AZ This is the spot where my son caught the Apache. I failed to get one. <<This was our supper the night after our first day of fishing. This trip marked an end of an era for me and trout fishing. It became obvious that my physical challenges would not permit me to try this trip again. Before we left AZ i gave all my fishing gear to my son, for him and my grandson to use. After 75 years of fishing, I've decided it is time to "hang it up". My future trips will be watching them and taking pictures....from the pickup. But, i am not, nor will I ever complain....God has blessed me with many years of good fishing in some of the most beautiful places on earth, that He created. And....you are likely to become associated with the best men on earth as you fish, as you go outdoors to do it, and talk about it, and brag about it, and sometimes fibalittle about it, and share it with your friends and loved ones. Those of you who enjoy our sport.....don't ever take it for granted. Fishing is one of those pleasures we must appreciate for the places and things it allows us to enjoy. Take a kid. Best of luck to all, and God bless you and yours, Chambug

The Rangers will be somewhere for sure....I'd like for it to be St. Louis.

The Az trip was great....started off with a bang. My son and i both caught our limit (6) on the first day and had a wonderful trout dinner that night. Caught them at a small stream north of Showlow, AZ. I failed in my attempt to catch an apache trout , but my son caught one . I caught 3 rainbow the last day, 18 to 20 inches, at Sunrise Lake . All in all it was a good trip. Pictures later.

We're leaving for Az at sundown today, 9/16.(from N. TX). "Gonna ketch sum o' them mounting trouts", in the White Mounains rim country. Will try for the alusive Apache trout, and catch many rainbows and browns from the lakes and Little Colorado River. A week at Pinetop, and at least one night at Greer. May go into Colorado from there. Be back ................whenever. Will post a report ............whenever. chambug
