  1. I used Orvis Mirage last season almost all the time in 6x. I've tried 7x fluoro and actually have two spools (mirage and RIO0, but it always breaks on me. I may try some 7x mono for drys this year and see if I have better luck. May try the RIO powerflex this year though.
  2. I was thinking of emailing Justin, but I figured you'd need a boat on the NFoW. I thought it was less likely to be necessary in other places. You can wade on the White can't you? For those who've been or are from Alton, where can you access the river from to wade fish?
  3. So other than Lilley's and the Taneycomo area, does anyone know of any resorts/cabins/lodges that are open in the winter? I'm considering maybe a night or two away in February around my birthday and would like to try a new body of water. Ideas, anyone?
  4. "Out upon merry Christmas. What's Christmas time to you but a time for paying bills without money; a time for finding yourself a year older, but not an hour richer; a time for balancing your books and having every item in them through a round dozen of months presented dead against you? If I could work my will,' said Scrooge indignantly,'every idiot who goes about with 'Merry Christmas' on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart. He should!' - EBENEZER SCROOGE With that said, LOL, I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday full of good cheer, good company, and maybe....some fishing???
  5. So far I'm open and it sounds good. Anyone have any suggestions on what to bring? I'd cook but don't know how to keep it warm. Are there plugs there? If so, I'd consider stew in a crock pot. Otherwise, I'll take ideas. As the weekend gets closer I'll know more for sure.
  6. I think most economic issues for te majority of people are heavily influenced by choices rather than circumstance. As for me, I went to the trout parks a whole lot less this past year because of the cost of gas involved. I also, consequently, bought less fishing related stuff. Hope this next year is a bit better.
  7. Sounds good. I hope I have a chance to get there before the year is out. I'd fish those BWO, but I can never see the darn things on the water. To me it's like fishing blind. However, I've always done well there with parachute Adams and midges.
  8. So long as the weather is nicer than last year, I'd consider it.
  9. Be a nice racket for this guy if you could pay him to do a customized video. I'd consider chipping in if we could get him to do one about OAF or maybe trout parks.
  10. I suspect there are several members here with big heads that might need a larger hood. Although, I'll be looking forward to your review.
  11. Pretty neat to see that. However, my immaturity kicked in halfway through the article and when reading about the process I had to giggle a little. I couldn't help but think about the poor guy who's job it is to slice and dice fish nuts. Also, the whole stirring with a feather made me laugh too. Oh well guess I'll never grow up.
  12. I, for one, welcome our new feline overlords
  13. It's that kind of crap that just creates more of a justification for animal rights extremists. I wish people like that would just stop fishing.
  14. Let's not forget a lot of inflated salaries and largesse granted to the higher level that run the programs. This includes travel reimbursements, junkets, conferences, etc....A lot of that is wasted money. The conferences are often simply mini-vacations on the taxpayer dime. With teleconferenceing and video conferencing there is so little actual reason to travel 2-4 hours away for meetings and such. If you start cutting some of that out, you'd see quite the difference.
  15. That's true Chief. In fact, it may increase it because the artificial sweeteners are shown to increase cravings for sweets.
  16. I would GLADLY support taxing churches and their properties. There are many churches in my area here that are huge and function no differently than a corporation. The only difference is they are selling Jesus and commoditizing Christianity. And, I suppose soda can be considered a product manipulated to make it addictive if you take into account the caffeine, but otherwise, I wouldn't put it in the same category. Some things should be put to a vote of the people, some maybe should stay in the legislature. We could debate which is which. I am all for lower tax amounts spread over more goods as a means of making cure everyone is contributing.
  17. To my knowledge there is no app. Many people access the forum through an app called Taptalk (sic). I don't have that. I find that the mobil version works fine on my iphone.
  18. Amazing all the people who stick up for smoking and all their arguments (it's my body, my choice,....tax on poor people). Look, it's a product that has been proven to cause seriously debilitating medical issues both to those who use it and those around it. It's a product whereby the makers were proven to specifically manipulate it to make it more addictive. It's a product that the makers deliberately gave to soldiers on the cheap and free in order to hook them into a lifelong addiction, knowing of its health effects. Can anyone name another legal product that we find acceptable that does that? If anyone supports this, I cannot understand why they wouldn't also suport the legalization of cocaine and heroin. The same arguments would apply. Yet, we won't legalize them, or even legalize marijuana which actually has proven medical benefits. I was a smoker for over 15 years. his was before the days of restrictions and carding you, back when you could put the money in the machine at the local diner or tell the clerk they were for your dad. It was a horrible mistake given my already reduced lung capacity. I did it because the folks I idolized did, so of course I wanted to be like them. Before anyone calls that dumb, remember, that's the exact reason capitalism works...a desire to keep up and be one of the crowd. It harmed me, and I regret it. I truly wish it hadn't been available so easily. If it was up to me I'd love to see tobacco outlawed and the scientists and executives that manipulate it and peddle it prosecuted criminally. Extreme....maybe? But if anyone here has ever watched a loved one die of lung cancer you may understand. And if it's right how come no one is out there saying to the meth heads, "hey, it's your choice.....we have to respect that". In the end, I'm very disappointed this tax didn't pass and sorry for the young of Missouri who won't get that benefit.
  19. Although I see some people have stopped in, it might be worth stopping in and telling this owner about our forum. That way he can keep up with what people are using in the area to help inform his inventory. Also, he can potentially post his hours, etc.. on one of the commercial parts of the forum. Lots of folks, members or not, read this. If I get a chance I'll pop in after work this week, but if someone can do it sooner, it's just a thought.
  20. Hey Buzz, you may be right. To be fair, I haven't been to Downstream yet, or to the Hard Rock near Tulsa. I hear that Downstream is nice and I've checked their calendar for concerts. It's good to see acts so close. Had Taney County and Branson wised up, we'd be reaping those benefits. Sadly, Missouri is willing to let their money go to their border states instead. Also, let's not forget that many of these casinos have been an economic salvation for many Native American tribes. Call it a bit of well deserved reparations.
  21. It wasn't a friend. That was an anecdote I had read recently on a book about the current job situation and the so-called skills gap. I agree. The OP is definitely reaching out to various sources that that sounds great. The earlier the better. I would say that it may be worthwhile to look at various counties in the area to see if they are hiring. Also, with the Christmas coming, seasonal jobs are here.
  22. That just cracks me up.....I've seen that too. It's makes you wonder and is kind of scary. Seeing as tomorrow's Halloween. don't pick up any that happen to be wearing a hockey mask. After all....there's a lockout on!
  23. Marina? They have one? You mean the boathouse area?
  24. Hell yeah Greasy. Usually they smell of stale smoke and old beer. You just try and use the machine next to them and see what happens.....I've never seen a parking lot filled with so many handicapped stickers, yet all agile enough to handle two or three machines at once! The few times I've gone I've walked in with a $20 bill, no debit card, and played until it was gone. That's the extent of my gambling.
  25. Actually Greasy these days, it is unlikely you would ever talk to a real person for quite some time. Most resumes are submitted online, scanned by computers armed with human resource software that weeds out most of the talented people, and then the few that are left get passed along. I've researched this topic and it's amazing what you discover. One high level executive who'd been at his company for a very long time ran himself through the process to see how it worked. He never even got past the first round. The "computer" determined he wasn't qualified to do the job. The jobs Bassmaster will be looking for are likely ones that come from job fairs and word of mouth. The biggest thing is to network, network, network.
