The only thing about streamers... is the weight.. you can throw a size 2 unweighted streamer on a 5wt... I do... but when you start talk.. sculpins with leads eyes... cone head woolies for deep water with extra weight... thats when you want to look into 7 and 8wts... and if your fishing alot at night.. and the wind starts blow 15,20,30 mph... thats when you really want the heavier rods... but if your looking at fishing a gray ghost, a standard wooly (size 8) muddlers minnows.. ect, then 5 and 6 wts should work ok... but go heavier on the line... instead of 6 and 7x tippts and leaders... I use a 6 to 10lbs maxima fishing line... but Im useally fishing in the dark.. and the heavier line really does help... If you need any good tip (about night fishing) go ahead a give me a call.. or e-mail me your phone number and I'll call you (417)-779-8061 home phone) Leonard

4fun... there is alot of place to fish on Taneycomo.... one of the best places to take a couple of boy out to catch a few fish... is down around Lilley's dock... I think those boys can hook a few fish there... and you also have the MDC fishing dock close by there... Give me a shout a few day in advance when you guys decide to come down again... I can find you a few spots for those boys to fish... Leonard... (417)-779-8061

Gary... They do make a glow stick that fits inside of the big bell floats.. but I think you have to drill alittle of the float out to get it to fit.... E-mail me you mailing address and I'll send you a few (3 or 4) floats and (5 or 6) glow stick...Only on one condition... the next time your down.. let do a little night fishing.. Leonard

SLOW..... VERY SLOW... There was a couple of guys down they with me last night... so forgot your guys name... but Enjoy the chatting, company and the fishing Thanks guys.. Leonard

Aeronikl.... As night fishing goes, I know quite a bit..but im not an expert.. and "I" by no means claim/or think to know everything about night fishing... but here is my opinion.... New moon is great fishing.. but when the browns come up.. they dont get really active till the water has been calm for a few hours (I mean not alot of fisherman walking though the water).. some night can be the best fishing ever.. next night not even a bit Full moon... If you have the right flies/jig/rapalas... fishing can be really good... like last night it was hard to catch a fish on a fly... but we did..3am.. got out the spinning rod and rapalas.. we were get hits on ever other cast... but on the nights of a new moon... I dont do that well on rapalas.. but thats just me and my opinion Leonard

Full moon... cool temps... and hardly any fog on the water Dave (from Ark)... and I started fishing about 9:30 right blow chute 2 working our way to the rebar... we both picked up a few fish (3 or 4 each) using cracklebacks... yes we were stripping cracklebak at night.. and they were working... we made our way do to the big hole pick up a fish here and there... Dave had a mishap with his rod so he called it a early night... I continued on and started fishing a Jelly Bean (not say what that is!!) other then a top water baitfish fly..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/Leo...nightsbrown.jpg Leonard

Phil... not sure... I did you a few leeches (and run out) I did some sculpins... but it wasnt the same as used for the leeches.. as for as the woollies.. not sure (dont remember doing any woolies for you)

well in the time of the spawn (the brown run) daytime. (not an expert on day fishing) SJ worms, scuds, sculpins, eggs at night... here is some of what I like to use... woollies, big scuds dragging the bottom, sculpins, glow balls, And The Night crawler (this is a fly that I tye... sorry guys my secret!!).. also lets not forget about the zonkers, matukas, muddlers, and the egg sucking leech.. Ive never tried to use a hairwing (like a black ghost).. but im sure it wuold work After meeting Michael at Back Country... Leeches work good too.. Leonard

hit the water about 9pm... started with a bleeding leech... pick up 4 in 10 minutes (up by chute 2) small fish.. so I decided to move down... I tried the spinning rod for a bit (1 hour) last night... using a rapala silver and black F9.... 1 fish and it was about a 15in bow.... back to the fly and a white unweighted woolly (my favorite!!) with the moon getting ready to go behide the trees... it was on... 12-15 fish.. in the range of 17-18 inches in about 45 minutes ... And one beauty 24in bow..... got pictures but I had my light on when I snapped the pic.. its not all that great. (I'll to load it to see if it clears up) moon dropped behind the trees.. and they shut off for about 10 minutes.. oh yeah I switched flies to... a red blood leech... caught about 7-8 more.. and I was ready to go home Leonard

dpenrod... The generation has been mostly in the afternoons... (starting after 1pm) I think Ive seen maybe 5 time in the past month and half where they were running water in the morning... Fishing has been great... scuds and midges... griffen gnats, small cracklebacks when the wind picks up also starting to get alittle top water action... crickets, hoppers, and ants red SJ worms when the water turns on.. and ginger sculpins if you what to sight fish... black woolies if you want to steamer fish (but that work only in the deeper holes)... night fishing... big scuds (12)... olive, black and gray woolies... and leeches... hope this helps you!!! Leonard

Is this the MAKO fly tying club??? (SWMOFF).. or a part of it??

Greg... In my opinion ( from a guy who does alot of night fishing)... Yes There is a big different in retrieves... I have seen them want it so slow .. that it was darn near sitting still but they wanted it moving.. then in the fall the browns like them fast.. But remember your retrieve that you used this time.. and start with that the next.. then start changing speeds... if that dont work within the first 30 minutes or so.. change colors... As far as the light goes.. I really only use mine to walk with or tye on a fly... Beleive it or not.. when it is that dark you can still see your fly (depending on its size) in the fishes mouth... But there has been a few time in the fall where I had to have a flash light to run a fish down on the bank. as far as the camera goes, I seen some really nice ones that does a crisp clear night photo .. I beleive Michael has one... may ask him on what type he uses..

Catman... I fish rapalas every now and then.. After a fish put a hook in my knee on night.. I started debarbing those treble hooks.. it a pain the butt trying to get those out in the middle of the night... Also I have found a nice little trick... I smash down 2 of the 3 barbs on the front and back.. fish are released easier and more hook-up then a completely debarbed hook... Leonard

My 2 boys loves to hit the water with me... the oldest (4yrs) is just now getting into the rock throwing.. so I didnt take him much.. the youngest is 2yrs.. he loves going down with ol'dad.. so dad can hook the fish and he gets to pull the line in.. dad unhooks the fish and he gets to release it.. theres nothing better then hearing "bye bye Nemo" from a 2 yrs.. then he jumps up and down saying "more Nemos more Nemos"... WHAT A BLAST!!!

I went out about 9:30 last night as I was in the parking I got to another member from the board.. and we fishing together until about 12:30... started off with a white mohawk sculpin... got a few strikes but missed most all of them... and after about 30 minutes I hooked up... a fat 16-17 in rainbow (oh yeah... forgot to say I was backing in my new 8wt last night)... what a way to start the night.. well to make a long story short... we caught maybe 10-15 fish total last night... not that great of a night very slow... but it was still fun Dennis... I was great to meet you and hope to do it again soon!! Leonard

almost a full moon.. the fishing seem like it started out very slow for me.. then I found what they want and it went from ok to fantastic!! me and my dad hit the lake a little after 9pm.. started at the rebar and went down to the big hole.. he problably caught somewhere around 15-20.. and I caught about 20-25 with a black sculpin (unweighted).. I caught maybe 4 or5 nice browns (14-17 in range).. Troutn.. it was great to me you last night.. Michael.. missed you again.. I saw your truck there as we were leaving Leonard
-
here's my report... I got there right about 10pm... start just below chute 2 and picked up 3.. missed a few strikes.. moved down below the rebar and it was on.. I started throwing a big ulgy (size 10) and stripping it under the surface .. picked up 4 or 5 ... half way down to the big hole.. I switched (you guessed it) the almighty white wolly.. picked up about 10 more fish and then got broke off by something really big.. it snapped 6lb line.. Last of the white wolly (forgot to tye some more).. so I put on a white mohawk sculpin.. picked up 4 or 5 more.. missing a few more then that... around 1 am.. went up to the cable where michael was fishing.. I found a little honey hole just below chate 1.. picked up 5 more or so.. Id say I caught somewhere between 20-25 fish.. 1 brown about 16" and a bow about 18" was my best 2 fish of the night... Next time Michael... we will have to do it again soon... Leonard.. By the way.. Seth.. it was great to meet you last night.. next time your down we'll have to get you on the water when then moon comes out
-
