Just returned from my first time fishing Crane Creek. I've been there several times, but was always doing water quality monitoring or liter pick-up. I went to the conservation area below town and went downstream from the dairy farm. The first two patterns that I tried went for naught, finally put on a birds nest nymph. The first hit shocked me; the rod felt like it was going to be pilled from my hand. Unfortunately, I never saw what hit. At least I was excited now. Two more hits from the same run left me with no fish. Really, I usually do better than that. Moved up stream and on the was just about ready to pack it in when I caught my first McCloud. Very small, but very pretty. The first one I saw out of the water and not in a photograph.
I will be back to fish Crane again. The water this time was high and fast. I didn't run into anyone else on the stream; but even though our club picked up liter earlier this month, there was still an over abundance of it.
