  1. Any jigs I had that dry-rotted,did it in the lake....long after I left them there!
  2. First time? I'd get a guide for a day,or 1/2 day. Preferably at the starting end of your trip. You won't regret it.
  3. I'd buy the jigs I like, and if necessary, add a wire or thread tie to secure the skirts.
  4. Flat warts have flat sides, right? Got a few from years ago. Chrome/blue back
  5. Haven't done any warts yet,but I have a few that I put long 4's on the rear. A friend form Rogers did that to his when I fished Beaver/White River with him in the 80's. Back then,we almost always threw the standard chrome/black back w/red nail polish on the throat. We'd bass fish, and the darn stripers up river wouldn't leave em alone.....Must have hooked a dozen in 5-6 years. All by surprise, and just two in the boat! They cleaned a reel quick,or just broke off when I'd tighten the drag. Hated losing a good wart on em.
  6. I didn't touch the mc sticks,but I started on my rogues. Might need more hooks,as I split 100 with a friend.....
  7. When you replace the #5's on McSticks, with #6 Daiichi's,do you need to add more weight? It appears that several McSticks already have #6 Diiachi's on them. At least they sure look identical. Strange,no?
  8. My partner this weekend,at Ouachita, had a water-filled McStick. I had returned one with a broken bill last week. Came home yesterday, and had a package waiting with not one...but TWO new replacements! Not bad for a buck and a half shipping to send one back. The address is on back of package. Called the contact number on their site, and spoke to a very nice woman, who told me just where and how. They may have problems, but they stand by their product.
  9. April 24 Purple Heart Veterans. Sunshine Beach. I'm sure they're still lookin for a few more boaters. Only 3 hrs of fishing...with a Purple Heart Veteran. Not a big thing, but a good one. No entry fee. Last year 1st,2nd,3rd, pd $400,300,200, in gift cert, for Bass Pro. Boater and vet both. Each boater recd $100 gift cert. I don't know what it will be this year, and I didn't know what it was last year till it was over. It's pretty much a volunteer thing, and I really enjoyed it.

    Heads Up

Took an old Sahara 1000,which I'll never use again, and traded it for $30 on a new Ardent baitcaster. My older Ardent, used more than any of my baitcasters or spinning reels, was sent in for free upgrading today. That reel,on an Falcon 5'-10" Eakin's jig rod, with a 3/8 oz. football jig will always be in any boat I'm in.......I hope.

I can't remember EVER seeing Shimano reels on sale...anywhere.
  12. http://lurepartsonline.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=280 $30 for 100. Mine are on the way......
  13. This whole thing is about respect for others. Seems like it's just not very popular anymore.
  14. Up north, when I bought new tackle in the winter,I used to spray paint orange circles in the snow, and practice off my deck!
  15. Best Month......March ,April,May? Best week....the one you're gonna fish! My best week is never 'might be',it's always WAS,and I don't find out till Spring fishing is over. I just wish I had the experience, and enough records,to show what the best weeks WERE.
  16. If you're in my boat....YES. X125 on bow,LMS 480 thru the hull
  17. I'd say BPS doesn't carry McSticks because A-they can't provide enough at this time, or B-their BPS jerkbaits would never leave the shelves.
  18. Get em down, bumping in the rocks, and you'll soon have less.....
  19. I believe the newer ones,at least many I've bought, don't have a gloss clear coat. Any opinions as to whether this is better, worse,or no difference? Repainting old 'suspenders' with new colors is 'fairly' easy with an airbrush and a bit of practice. I suppose you could weigh down the 'floaters' with dots and strips to get a similar effect,no? As far as collectibles are concerned, check the bidding on Ebay. All I've ever bought were for use. I have more than I can fit in a several 3700 boxes. I just like em! Bought a dozen Phantom Green Craw because when I 'ran out',I couldn't find them for awhile. No worries now.
  20. I understand that when they sold the company, they changed the wart and removed the erratic action. That changed the lure, and it WAS noticed. I believe they have since gone back to the original molds, and colors. They seem to be as they were originally. Warts are highly collectable, and original lures in the box can bring $20-30.00 or more. I buy the old suspenders(standard wart)they no longer make, and repaint them to the colors I prefer. They stay on/near bottom a bit longer,so you can work em slower.
  21. It's a great club. Plenty to learn from those who know plenty. Looking forward to another year.
  22. Seemed like a wierd retrieve on a McStick( @ 15 bucks!!) Then noticed the bill broke off! Did not hit anything, and was in open water. Anyone know if there's a warrantee on em? I'd be surprised.
  23. I upgraded to a couple Symetres this year. Very happy with them. They cost 100 bucks.
  24. After reading this thread,I can't help but think, that some of those who try to get free advice, to make money, might not have that hard of a time 'cheating'. For some, when money is involved, character isn't an issue......sad.
