    Froggin'

Had a great time taking my 8yr old son and 12 yr old niece frog gigging Friday Night. They gigged 10 out of 5 ponds. Should of had more, but you know how that goes with kids. They really tasted good tonight though. We had a great time doing a sport that most have forgotten!
  3. Dang, was hoping for a better report! But thank you for posting a report either way!

Got home last night in time to run behind the house and put a gobbler to bed... Got up this morning, hoping I could get in close before he started talking. Unfortunately, he was already talking by 5:30... Set up in the edge of a big field where I have watched him pitch down before. He gobbled a ton on the roost. He flew down about 100 yards away from me along with 3 hens. A second gobbler came into the field from the other side. Made a couple soft calls and here he came. I was simply amazed that he left the other turkeys in the field and walked to within 20 steps with no decoy! I Love It When A Plan Comes Together! A solid 2 year old bird!
  7. Awesome job!
  8. Congrats
  9. One of my best retrievers was a Golden!
  10. What a weird year!!! Teal season was one of the best I have ever been a part of. Not only did we see lots of teal, but my 7 year old began going with me which made the trips even better. I also got my young pup on several retrieves. Best hunt of the year was the last day of teal season. No one else wanted to go, so just myself and my son went. Saw lots and limited out in less than an hour. Regular duck season was pretty much a bust. Killed a few before the major front in early November and then it was like someone turned off the lights. Tried to hunt different days but rarely saw a duck. Finally got to take a pilgrimage south into Arky land in early January. Had two fantastic days of hunting, but had to stay on the rivers due to the woods freezing up. The second day I believe I saw almost every duck imaginable fly through the decoys. Final day to hunt, we woke up to freezing rain and our buddy told us we better head home. A normal 2.5 hour trip took 4.5-5 hours due to the conditions. If we would have waited around, it probably would have cleared up, but instead we drove right on the edge all the way home. Again, a weird year all the way around. I appreciate all the reports and pictures. I enjoy reading and seeing the beauty that God has put before each and everyone of us. I apologize if I don't report enough, but living where I do, there usually isn't a lot to brag about. Hope you all have a great "off season" and here's to a great spring turkey season and great fishing until next fall...
  11. Thought that looked close to home... Great job!
  12. That is the area. Can't wait!!!
  13. Headed for some fun this weekend. Taking off to hunt Friday-Sunday and can't wait. Except for teal season, this year had been rough. Hope to make up for it in 3 days!
  14. Looks good!!! Glad you could get your four!!
  15. So what you are saying is that I might as well stay home instead of going down after Christmas? Lol, no water=no ducks is what I have always been told.
  16. Very nice. Glad to see someone killing something. Been really quiet this year so far.
  17. Ducks are working great right now. Didn't get to go yesterday, but this morning was fantastic to watch. Wish we would have shot a little better. Should be a fun week with the weather forecast!
  18. I agree 100%. Wouldn't trade the world for this morning!
  19. Today was a little better. Saw two groups again, but more birds in each group. Took my 7 year old for his first ever duck hunt and I believe he is hooked. First group came in right in his face and he actually saw the second group for us. My pup is a little young so we have been keeping her in the truck till she is needed. After te first group I had got her out and she retrieved all 5 we knocked down. My dad was going to walk her back to the truck when the second group came in. They had only walked about 20 yards away when we shot and it didn't even phase the pup. She came right back and off she went to retrieve the two we knocked down. All in all another successful morning.
  20. Ours wasn't quite as successful # wise, but my new pup did get to make her first retrieve so success was even sweeter with that!!! Saw two groups and only had one group decoy. Killed one out of it. Played catch the rest of the time with the pup. Will post a pic later.
  21. You still have to have a hunting permit if 16 or older. I believe you cannot get a permit without Hunter Ed certification. I am 99% positive on that. Not sure on the pistol part of your question though.
  22. Looks like another banner year on the breeding grounds! Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will have another fantastic year! Hope everyone is having a great summer and, look forward to the great reports and discussions here this fall.
  23. My Grandfather in-law would wash crawlers and we would take them in water with ice in it. No mess an they were always lively!
  24. It has been a few years, but my wife's grandmother caught an 18 inch trout two points up from where the White and James come together.
  25. Was able to get out only twice the whole season. Was fortunate to get on this bird the last Saturday before I had to take my son to ball practice! Only able to go twice but was fortunate to hunt with my Dad one day an with a close friend for the first time when I killed this bird! Very thankful for another great year even if I only got to go twice! Hope everyone had a great year also!
