  1. Planning on trying to do some fishing in October sometime. Just wondering when in October one can expect to start seeing bigger browns so I can plan some vacation time. Is fishing still good into November & December? Thanks
  2. The bronze goddess and ice picks are cool. I am still working on mine. I have a feeling my flies may be the last to arrive into your hands Leonard. But you will see them by the Oct. 5th deadline.
  3. I plan on being down there as well this weekend doing some day & night fishing (generation pending???)
  4. Count me in if there's room. I'll tie a big sculpin pattern.
  5. It may not be the norm but I had an idea. I see where some people want to be or tie hook up on a sculpin pattern to help keep from getting snagged on a rock. I may not be the first to think of this but I haven't seen anyone use this type of hook to tie a sculpin pattern. Anyway here she is.... From the eye of hook to end of hide on rabbit strip measures 3 1/8" but the hair hangs back of course making the overall length 4". The hook is a Eagle Claw Lazer sharp 1/0 offset worm hook from Wal-mart. So what do ya think?
  6. After seeing a dozen different ways to tie an articulated streamer it has me wondering how they keep from fouling. Some use mono, braid, beading wire, etc. with glass beads and some use no beads at all. Articulated atreamers that use rabbit strips some tiers leave the rabbit strip between the two parts uncut to prevent fouling which to me limits the movement and defeats the purpose of an articulated streamer to begin with. I assume the only way to make sure the streamer doesn't foul is to make sure the rear hook can't reach the front hook in any way or to cut off the front hook. I just don't see any way to make sure they won't foul unless the gaps between the front and rear hooks are longer. Some of the patterns I see being tied makes me think they might foul quite often. Just looking for some answers. Oh....do the beads need to be glass beads? Can they be plastic? Thanks
  7. That's cool. I was just wondering because I haven't seen some of the patterns your tying. They look good. Nothing wrong with tying up new patterns and color schemes. That's how we have all the choices we do now is from people tying new things and trying them.
  8. So do you just tie up random flies/streamers or are you basing them off of a particular pattern?
  9. I never had fished at night either until a couple of weeks ago. It was less crowded and fun. It was a little different wading & casting in the dark though but it was fun. I may be down there fishing next thursday night.
  10. Nevermind.....I found the Meal Ticket recipe. Looks promising!
  11. Cool! Glad to hear you did well. I can't wait to get back down there. I'm planning on being back down on Sept 15th-17th. Seeing these fish is getting me pumped up.
  12. Wow! What a fish! Just curious if the Meal Ticket fly recipe is available? I've never heard of the fly but might be something to have in my arsenal.
  13. Cool! Can't wait to see a pic.
  14. I'm going to start tying some sculpin patterns and know there are alot of different variations and ways to tie a sculpin. I was curious what others were tying/using and what everyone thought of my sculpin pattern. Would a trout eat this, lol. This sculpin pattern is olive. What other color sculpin patterns would be good to tie. Thanks
  15. Any particular area you had the most luck?
  16. Well Leonard you didn't tell me I had a blank stare on my face in the picture, LOL! Anyway I had a great time getting to know you and learning some tips when it comes to night fishing. You will most likely be seeing more of me down there at night. Even though the brown wasn't a monster he still put up a good fight and and made my day/or night Thanks again Leonard
  17. I know everyday can be different but 3-4 weeks ago when we were down fishing. When they blew the horn and started running around 3 units i think, we had been using hot pink San juans and catching them alright for a while. Then they stopped biting. My brother-in-law tied on a yellow egg above the hot pink worm and started catching them left and right just by adding the egg pattern above it. Then later that day they stopped biting the hot pink and we found out they wanted red.
  18. Yea the guy at the fly shop told me the Sharkskin was good line but had a more abrasive texture I might not like. Thats why he recommended the GPX texture.
  19. I just looked into them. From what I am reading about it is that it has a longer head??? Maybe I read the specs wrong. If I was going to be throwing streamers (not at huge distances) wouldn't I want a shorter head for quicker rod loading and the ability to shoot line better and to carry the bigger flies better? I'm still learning so thats why I am asking. Thanks
  20. I am fairly new to fly fishing and am currently setting up a 7WT rod. My Rod is a TFO Professional 9' 7WT and am confused as to what line would be a good match. If it matters I am setting this up primarily for streamers. I figured I would just use floating line and use a sink tip, short flourocarbon leader & tippet or straight leader (I can add weight to line or weight the streamers if need be). Now about the line. There are so many options out there. Not only brands but different series/models of line in each brand. The gentlemen at the local fly shop suggested GPX textured. I know GPX runs a 1/2 size heavy so I wasn't sure if that's what I wanted. I probably won't be casting long distances as I am still learning. I'd like to stay around the $75 range. I'm just not sure what taper I need to be looking at. Some I am considering are Rio Gold, Rio Grand (rio claims this is 1/2 size heavy also), SA GPX & GPX textured, Cortland Classic 444 Peach. Anyone have any suggestions or preferences from the list above or any line I do not have listed? Thanks in advance
  21. Here is my first attempt at the PMS. I don't think it turned out to bad. What does everyone think? Does it look alright?
  22. Good question! I was going to ask the same thing. Anyone out there with some info? Thanks
  23. If ya don't mind me asking where is this favorite place you speak of? I'm not familiar with Tablerock lake at all and hope to catch some bass this weekend while I'm down there. If ya don't want to tell me your honey holes I understand. Thanks
