1.1' on the Akers guage is about as low as it gets...its flowing at 1.75' with a 1/4" of rain in the forecast for Saturday. Warm Weather Saturday & Sunday too. Should be in great shape this weekend. Y'all have fun.
Brian, The snot moss isnt didy...annoying as just the same..I'd attibute the snot moss on the NFoW to developement...Mountain grove has a poor sewer system that drains to the NFoW, and I'm pretty sure that a few of those play places that got built on the trout water have inadequate septic systems because the snot moss is thicker in front of some of them.
$60 bucks wont even pay for 2 sets of Simm's boot studs...figure its gonna set me back $400 to replace two sets of boots and install studs...plus the cost of two door mats to keep the interior of my canoe from getting beat up..Darn big goverment mandates !
Figure the ban is gonna cost me a good chunk of change in replacement costs...Boots arent cheap, and studs are extra. I'll need a replacement pair for me, and one for my wife..I'm not pleased with the unexpected cost, and I'm not convinced that its going to make any difference in the end, but it is a done deal.....
Look on the bright side....It's a great excuse to visit your favorite tackle shop and buy some stuff you really want...and a pair of bewts!
The NFoW would cut 45 minutes off your drive time, but the 11pt has better scenery. Both are worth a visit...Maybe float the Current if dont mind driving a bit further.
That Vagabond is a good flatwater boat, but it took in water occassionally...It needs a little more depth at the center line and a higher bow, IMO.I paddled one for years with no other issues.
Looks like you had a nice time! I've done a quite a bit of night fishing on the Current & Meramec..It can be good at times, but you'd better know were you are going and carry a couple extra flashlights..Go on a clear summer night so you can navigate by starlight, and dont shine your light on the water. Good Luck!
I've been looking for a new solo...and this one might be it.
Wenonah Wilderness
Eric has a great looking setup...bought the only things I'd add would be a foot brace, dry storage, and an anchor system..Bow anchor so you can eddy out and fish back upstream, & a stern anchor so you can run a drag chain. Good luck with your project.
There are no magic flies. Your best bet is to do some research on the stream you intend to fish and choose your patterns accourding to the food forms that are present in abundance. If your fishing the Ozark Tailwaters you dont need much...midges, scuds, sowbugs, and sculpins make up most of the forage base. Good luck.
This guys arguments are lame...We've all probably caught a fish off unseen redds without realizing it. That happens, and that is OK with me....its a BIG stretch to say that Brian is actively targeting fish on redds because he caught a colored up fish, and one spewed eggs. Big Deal.
I'd fall out of my chair dumbfounded if Brian was actively targeting fish on redds. If he says he's not, I'm sure that he is not. The word would get out about behaviour like that on the NFoW, and some of fly fisher's who frequent that river would probably string him up by his heals from the nearest sycamore tree for doing so. It just doesnt add up.
Its still hard to top a zonker, bugger, or a muddler style fly.Heck, most of those fancy Galloup streamers are just hot rodded versions of the above. Old school bucktail, marabou, and feather winged streamers work well at times too..and the fish dont see many of them anymore.
I've been through enough Daiwa's & Shimano's in the past 6-7 years to know that I dont want another one...I have an Abu and a Plueger...no issues with either of them, but I like the handle on my Abu better. Good Luck.
First things first....What kinda rod do you want to build? Length? Line Weight? Then go cast a few till you find something you like...Where are you at? There are allot of nice folks in the boo community..and they are almost always willing to let a fellow cast, offer up their contacts, and share rodbuilding tools..Shoot me a PM if you have Q's.
