  1. Kelly Ford is down off 372....not sure of the road designations....but you turn towards the river by the old crossroads store and stay on the pavement till it ends and keep on going...turn left at the berry farm...Decent wade fishing at the Islands above the Patrick Access...and some decent wading in front of ROLF, Sunburst & Riverside CG too. I'd recommend a boat though. Talk to Justin about that. Cheers.
  2. United States Marine Corp 1986-1992 Avionics Technician MCAS El Toro VMA-121 Green Knights (A-6 Intruder Squadron at the time) West Pack 1988 on board the USS Ranger CV-61 VMFA-314 Black Knights (FA-18) Spent the First Gulf War in Bahrain
  3. I drive by Tilles in the AM on most days...fishing has been slow...Drove by Jefferson yesterday at lunch..Folks were catching fish.
  4. To see the Ozarks as Schoolcraft did...It must have really been something before it was clear cut, and the rivers dammed, but it was also a very forbidding place. Not sure if many of us would like it the way we do now.
  5. I'm sure the larger trout will eat them but most of the fish are probably too small to show much interest (6-8") on average. There are also a ton of bleeding shiners, small caddis, & scuds in that creek......Mohair leaches in ginger, brown, & olive are always very effective on the wild trout creeks. Might imitate a craw, but who knows......egg patterns are deadly on those creeks as well. Cheers.
  6. If that JJ Grey & Mofro is the stuff you had on in your truck Justin...Gonna give that a thumbs up! The line between blues & funk is a fine one, and those guys dance across it with style!
  7. No Terry I havent tried the Pac Fly indies....but I'm sure I'll toss a few in the collection when I see them..Idlywylde who makes that little gizmo.
  8. Nice deer and congrats on your first bow kill!
  9. Here's a few you might want to check out... Southern Culture on the Skids http://www.scots.com/band.html Hayseed Dixie http://www.hayseed-dixie.com/Home.html Galactic http://www.galacticfunk.com/NEW2007/index.php?skin=8 Dont know if they have a CD yet...but check out Liquid Gold in Soulard sometime...they play every other Saturday at the Shanti 4-7pm. Cheers.
  10. Neil is great...like to play him...but cant stand his voice..Sings better than me though and I play a few of his tunes badly....Hard to beat some time tested rock & roll, old school funk, or some bluegrass on a long drive. Led, Jimi, Parliment, War,Flatt & Scruggs......something from when musicianship mattered.. Sweetheart is probably my favorite Byrds album....and Johnny...got all his stuff...Elvis too.
  11. Think I solved the Thingamabobber moving on round leader material problem.......I used a 3'-4' piece of Rio Slick Shooter running line as the butt section of my leader on the NFoW last week....its flat profile works great with the Thingamabobber.....easy to adjust...didnt move...very little memory in the material......stiff stuff so it was easy to adjust the wossat...er Thingamabobber.........try it...you might like it. Cheers.
  12. Its a hoot!...expecting to see Uncle Walt or Eddie Haskell at any moment.
  13. Dunno, there was a club called the "Current River Fly Fishers" years ago..Even had Dick Ryan's CR Gold fly on the logo that I saw....Dont know what happenend to them...but small clubs come & go if their isnt a core group to move it forward until they reach critical mass. Ozark Fly Fishers from St. Louis does do some Stream Team work on the Upper Current, water quality monitoring, trash pickup, etc. Its a 300 member club, one of the best in the nation........See if they will help you out if you can get a board assembled. Cheers.
  14. Kallie Sue at Friends of the Ozark Riverways put this link up on their facebook page today...nice video of the Current before it became a National Park from the Missouri History Museum.
  15. Its a great fish thats for sure....1/16 of an ounce isnt all that much...1.77 grams accourding to google...I toss combo's of shot & flies that surely weight allot more than that on the NFoW & 11pt......figure a BB shot weighs .4 grams...a AA weights .8 grams...so 1/16 oz is just a big more than 2 double AA's.... The tail on that fish does look funny...but I think its from a fin clip from when the biologists sample. Cheers.
  16. Your LMB stuff will catch plenty of smallies so you dont need to spend a fortune...I'd probably downsize some of the lures though...Fish a Spook Jr. sized walk the dog bait, v. Full Size...Minnow baits in the 3-5.5" range work great, jig & craw...go with something like and Eakins instead of a full sized LMB jig. Cranks, stuff that runs up to 8' deep or so works fine..not often a need to fish deeper...Plastics...Hard to beat a tube in the 2.5-4" range or a 4" Chomper Hula Grub in Green Pumpkin, or a Pearl Zoom Superfluke on a 4/0 EWG. I couldnt find a link to it, but Al Agnew did a very nice presentation on catching river smallies earlier this year and Phil put it on the site......Maybe someone has a link to it. Cheers.
  17. Sweet!!! Olive jig...bet crawfish were on that fishes menu.
  18. I believe that the fishing in the park is limited to the water above the Handicapped patio in Campground Loop 3...Water below the park is open year round.
  19. Simple enough..make a phone call or send and email & ask...they have that website, and listings in the phone book.
  20. I'd give it a go....I never rowed one before I took Justin's out on Friday. Steve's really good on the sticks, so he gave me a couple tips, and off I went..Took awhile to figure stuff out..Point it were you want to go and push on those sticks, dont back row and kill what little speed you have unless you really need to get out of trouble, back into gravel bars to protect your rod tips. I enjoyed floating it on the NFoW... Max...the flies didnt really seem to matter much...eggs, stoneflies, hares ears, leaches...its usually the amount of weight your using that matters most down there...Add more till you catch fish even if your picking moss on every cast...Usually had at least 3 BB's on (1.2grams)...sometimes 3 AAA's (2.4grams). Cheers.
  21. The 2499 is a great hook, I use it for all my midges & scuds......I not a fan of scud hooks at all......The down eye & shape seems to lead to allot of brief hookups...hook up...then your fish is gone...especially in the smaller sizes.
  22. Email the biologist in charge...not sure who that is these days...but I'm sure they will let you know.
  23. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=77718&id=1647470288&l=34c6e70e44 Heres your pics.
  24. Tom said the FDIC owns Westover now and they are keeping him on board for the time being. New appraisal is in the works. Probably listed again soon. He said it was a quick transition, and the new bankers gave them approval to buy eggs and hatch a year class of trout this winter...Guess its got a positive cash flow if its not making debt service. Will try to post some pics this evening or tomorrow...First day with my new laptop, and still a few things to install/figure out. Cheers.
  25. I use a triple surgeons to attach a leader to braid...its a quick tie, and it holds pretty well, but it will break at the knot...youll know right away if its a good knot or not.....But you really do want it to break at the knot...no sense in loosing lots of braided line. Braid will freeze to the spool in low temps...moreso than mono...and flouro is even more useless than in warm weather......guess you could use mono with a flouro leader but I usually go with plain old green maxima......Line spray helps when its below freezing.
