Practice in a canoe? LOL...Park the boat and wade fish till you get comfy with the boat...after that...experiment. Thinking that plastics, flukes, spinners & cranks would be first line in that time frame.

Think you have the right questions Bill and you need to confirm this with your CPA. The way Missouri calculates its tax, you will get the public pension exclusion on form MO-A regardless of source (within the limits). You can also get a tax credit for taxes paid to other States on Form MO-CR...Lots of states exclude pensions & taxable social security income...guess that Nebraska is not one of them. Ask your HR folks about where they report the pension income for the retired folks who move out of State.

The maximum Missouri pension exemption is $35,234 per person but the exemption is reduced (dollar for dollar) for any income in excess of the Missouri AGI limitation ($100,000 for married, $85,000 for single). Does that help? Look at form MO-A if you want to see how its calculated.

War Eagles and Terminators are good...Gotta have a curly tail grub trailer...Usually White, or Chartruese & White..1/2 or 3/8oz usually...1/8 & 1/4oz baits dont get down in current very well. Yet another good reason to get a casting rod.

Dunno what size they are...but 1/64oz is probably about right. Whatever comes in the kit. We hang them a couple feet under a little weighted cork float when we take our baby girls fishing..No treble hook to worry about...no bait mess, and they catch fish. Inspect the line tie often to make sure the knot is on top of the hook so the jig suspends horizontally...Fish dont seem to eat them if the knot is cocked forward with the jig hanging vertically. We usually start one with Orange or Pink, and the other with White at the trout parks. Sometimes more subdued colors work better but not that often. Good luck.

Al, I think the sample runs are standardized...at least they are on the Current...same two stretches every year...unless high or low water bollocked it up. A rookie on the net might hurt...but not that much.

Think there needs to be some changes. It floods alot down there and it really puts the hurt on fresh stockers when it does. Plus the Meramec has a fine gravel bottom that shifts alot...not great for large aquatic inverts..Mostly a minnow & midge fishery, some burrowing mayflies. A spring & fall stocking might work. Two batches of fish would hedge against flooding.

Dont know what the last high water event did...but the NPS folks usually log out most of the nasty stuff. You should be fine. .

There really isnt much good trout habitat down there..The 3 miles from the park to Suicide Hill is pretty good but thats about all you got..Gets too hot below Dry Fork in the summer, too cold in the winter...add Flood, drought, slow brown trout production at the hatchery...Its always been a fickle fishery...

Larry had his gas tank siphoned by some sleaze ball meth-heads at East Gate last spring. Make sure you have locking gas caps and dont leave anything of value in an unattended vehicle.

You can float through Fort but I havent done that section..Long shuttle and not the prettiest section due to all the developement in the Fort from reports..A few obstacles to portage too. Check the Fort Leonard Wood website for the guidelines on floating through.. Too many rivers to float in a lifetime around here. The Current, Jacks Fork, and Eleven Point are probably my favorites followed by the Big Piney, North Fork of the White, Meramec, Gasconade & Black. Not a big fan of the Niangua...Buffalo is awesome, but theres too many rivers in between here and there...Here's a good resource if you are looking elsewhere. Boiling Springs CG on the Big Piney is the uppermost outfitter... west side of the river just downstream from MDC's Boiling Springs access...Two others outfitters are located on the west side of the river right below MDC's Ross Bridge Access. Rich's Last Resort, and Wilderness Ridge...You have 2 choices on the Big Piney below Fort Leonard wood...Lay-Z-Day on the west side of the river off of Teak Ln.(about 7 miles upstream from I-44, and Route 66 Canoe on the east side of the river about a mile north of the I-44 bridge off of Trophy Lane.. Boiling Spring CG on the Gasconade is about 2 miles downstream from the confluence of the Big Piney and Gasconade. The Big Piney is alot smaller than the Gasconade and its relatively undeveloped thanks to all the Forest Service land along its banks. The Gasconade is pretty wide and slow in comparrison to the Piney....Mile long slow pools and short riffles...Pretty in the spots were you dont encounter cows, eroded mudbanks, and development. You might like the Piney below Fort Leonard Wood in that time frame. Awesome scenery from East Gate down to the Gasconade. ...Or do Riddle Bridge to Jerome on the G. Nade. froggy in spots, ripped up in spots.... but some of the best bluffs in the Ozarks..
