  1. Depends...if you want to let the boys fish...with no worries about how they rig up and possible bait & tackle restritions...I'd start at Cedargrove...its all legal below there and you have some pretty good put & take trout water down to Akers Ferry...Good stretch for a fish fry if you hit it right... For lures...Inline spinners, 1/8oz-1/4oz Kastmasters & Little Cleo spoons in silver or gold. Marabou jigs 1/16-1/4oz.....drift fishing with or w/o bobbers and bait. cast up, let it drift..avoid drag, manage slack line.....prepared cheese baits, minnows, small crawdads, and an assortment of split shot.. Akers to Pulltite...paddle on but hit the scenic spots... the fishing is poor so make time......fishing picks up a bit below Pulltite, but its better downstream of Roundspring. A 3" Curly tail grub on a 1/8 or 1/4oz jig head will catch just about anything that swims down there. Swim it, Troll it behind the boat, Drag it on the bottom, Jig it...there is no wrong way..Green Pumpkin is always money....but bring at least one bait fish color too...smoke, pearl with black or silver fleck... throw those inlines, spoons, marabou's too. Cheers.
  2. Glad you made it out! Still aching from last weeks adventures.
  3. Keep and eye on this guage.. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv?cb_all_00065_00060_00045=on&format=gif_default&period=14&site_no=07064440 It was around 2.25' when I was tromping around below Baptist last Thurdsday..still hard to cross in places...but no problems above Tan Vat. Think I would have liked it allot better aroun 1.5-1.75'. Have Fun.
  4. This is a good one for goldens...slays everywhere.. Whit's Rubber Leg Red Fox Squirrel Nymph.. http://www.flyofthemonthclub.com/store/catalog.asp?item=652 The only stone pattern I recall with Ostrich in the thorax is the Brook's Stone.is easy tie and effective. http://stevenojai.tripod.com/goldstone.htm http://books.google.com/books?id=8sGVmsNIJsEC&pg=PA263&lpg=PA263&dq=Charlie+Brooks+Stonefly&source=bl&ots=FR0p3wTw0V&sig=LQQMKjp-9yoE2jLYiT11iJFovGg&hl=en&ei=Pe3LTfHYF-Hf0QGqgN3rBg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=8&ved=0CEMQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=Charlie%20Brooks%20Stonefly&f=false
  5. Havent floated up by St. Francois SP in awhile...but that section of water has been impacted by lead mine tailings from upstream...the tailings look like a fine gray/tan sand, but its not...not much lives on those stretches. Fish the spots with habitat, gravel, rock, wood, willow weed, and you will catch some fish..Mixed bag...Largemouth, Smallmouth, Spotted Bass, Long Ear Sunfish, Goggleeye, Catfish. Better to float it...You can rent a boat from Cherokee Landing. Its a weekends mostly operation, so call ahead. Not sure about the present water level...but it looks like its up above normal. Cheers. http://www.cherokeelanding.com/index.html
  6. Whit's gold bead rubber leg red fox squirrel nymph...widely available...bought a size 14.
  7. No worse than usual but I always take the high side..Saw Sam's truck at Tan Vat on Wednesday Afternoon on my way to get some firewood. Access had 4-5 cars in it.
  8. We stopped on our way down to Montauk last Wednesday....The pan fried chicken was perfectly cooked and delicious.
  9. I didnt notice much that changed above Tan Vat...little deeper in spots...some new wood in the water below Baptist..A big leaner over the fast water below the 90 bend before you get the first big bluff..only fished for two hours each morning and I didnt cover that much ground. I heard Cedargrove is still closed...so the outfitters probably havent been down to log it out yet...I'd pack light and bring some rope & a chainsaw if your planning on floating it this week...Just a few footprint on what remains of the beach at Baptist...no drag marks indicating that anyone has floated it yet. Cheers.
  10. Went down to Montauk last Wednesday with the family for kids day...What a hoot!...Managed to get out on the river Thursday & Friday AM... Fished below Baptist with the water level at 2.25 on the Montauk Guage on Thurday AM...Water a little cloudy, and you had to pick your crossings carefully...fishing was good...About a dozen to hand between 6:30 and 8:30am before heading back for breakfast. Two brown trout...one around 19", another in the 16" range...the rest were rainbows in the 10-17" range. Lots of bumps with no hookup so there must have been a bunch of rat rainbows washed out of the park. Fished up from Tan Vat on Friday morning...Rainbows all over the place again and again two browns. Lost toad of a brown when he jumped and tossed my bait.....then a 17" at the access on my way back. Rainbows, rainbows, everywhere right now...So mid-day fishing should be good. Cheers.
  11. Thats a golden stonefly...pretty common bug on BSC....along with scuds...the big larva might have been a cranefly instead of a caddis...but no way to tell w/o a picture.
  12. It was allot of fun...went down Wednesday so I missed your post... We had a great time...little fishing outside the park on Thursday & Friday AM...then in the park with my 4 & soon to be 2 year old baby girls and they did well both days......Two other couples came down with their kids on Friday..and 6 kids 5 & under hit the water after the rain on Saturday AM..They only lasted for and hour and a half our so...but they all caught some fish...particularly the 3 five year olds....kept me busy skinning & filleting for awhile..more than we could eat last night. Sounds like you had a great time too!
  13. Spring Creek flows into the North Fork of the White about a mile above Patrick Bridge. 40.9 on the this map. http://www.missouricanoe.org/river-maps/northfork-bryant.html
  14. Sounds like you had a talk with the Sheriff, so what, he didnt arrest you........What are the standing orders for dealing with Prater complaints?....Cooling off period..yadda, yadda...if you didnt get standing orders for dealing with Prater..........you got nothing.
  15. Headed down later this week for kids day...Hope tonights rain doesnt bollocks things up, but no rain in the forecast after today.... Glad you got out for some bluegill fishing.
  16. Easy call...people v. corn....people win.
  17. No need of trout flies in the summer time...but I'll tie something.
  18. Water will be stained but I'd head down if you need the fix.....Its usually clearer up above Ashley when the water is up. Be careful crossing because some of the gravel might be soft. Cheers.
  19. From my talks with some of the biologists...they need one good spawn in 3 years to maintain a good population...a flood may knock out a good portion of a year class but some will make it. Not all gloom & doom and there is lots of mortality built into the equation already. I'd rather have a flood year than a couple years of drought conditions.
  20. Looks like a good selection....but I'd add some small zebra midges for the park and some streamers for the river..Kid's Free Fishing day is on the 7th so the park will be full on Saturday. Cheers.
  21. I enjoyed the video..nice work!
  22. He hasnt been sentenced yet Mitch but the death penalty was never on the table (2nd degree murder, not 1st). Hell spend a long time in the gray bar hotel though...10 years to life in prison are the possible options.
  23. Sounds like a bunch of knuckleheads on both sides, and there were no winners here...Justice was served, and lets leave it at that.
  24. A few more details... http://www.ozarkcountytimes.com/news/local/article_5a64c386-6c26-11e0-9956-001a4bcf6878.html http://www.ozarkcountytimes.com/news/article_23847e74-700e-11e0-acd4-001a4bcf6878.html http://www.ozarkcountytimes.com/news/article_a89d8bd2-70ea-11e0-bf43-001a4bcf6878.html
  25. I'd keep an eye on the stream guages and the weather forecast and make your call on Monday AM...Looks like there is rain in the forecast for today Saturday Night & Sunday..not sure what next weeks forecast holds. Montauk Guage http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv/?site_no=07064440&PARAmeter_cd=00065,63160,00060 Akers Guage http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv/?site_no=07064533&PARAmeter_cd=00065,63160,00060 www.weather.gov type in Jadwin, MO for the Montauk Forecast. I wouldnt bother till it drops below 4' at Akers with no rain in the forecast.
