Just my luck to have a great idea that someone else had three years ago. I might try to make it down this year. I am working that day though.

I forgot to mention that Ahoys was closed for a bit and under new ownership or some such thing.

Big Buoys too, but it is a good ride from Big Cedar. I have been there when the food was really good, and when it was not so good.

My son was willing to fish with me today. It was a good thing, because he is leaving for Vancouver, Washington to start a life there on Saturday. We mostly played around and drove the boat some, but managed to catch five fish in the four hours or so we were out. Two were close to fifteen inches, the other three were feisty little short fish. They had some attitude. Caught one on shaky head and one on drop shot, the other three were on Jewel jigs. It was a fun day. Taking my usual partner tomorrow.

I love those Mepps lures. We used them on Rainy Lake all of the time. I haven't been able to fool a Table Rock bass with one though. We went fishing in Canada one time and an older feller put some minnow bits on the treble hooks of a jointed rapala. I explained to him how the rapala worked by mimicking the bait fish and he was messing up the action of the lure by tipping it with pieces of dead shiner. We made a small wager. He caught a huge walleye right off the dock with it. Turned out I didn't know what I was talking about. Guess who got to pull dish duty the first night!

Your post made me smile. When I first started fishing we had dark colored, white, craw dad colored, or shiner colored. Then they started adding chartreuse, and fire tiger and it became crazy from there. They have candy colored jig skirts now. Looks black with a strand of purplish glitter. I saw a pewter colored car the other day. Who came up with that? Looked gray/tan to me. I do know that the color is important in Table Rock. If you catch a bass and it spits up a crawdad, then a crawdad colored rig is what I use. If it spits out a shad, then I use something else. I do have to confess I like the green color best though. I think it is also known as watermelon with red specks or some sort of name. If you are hunting vegetarians don't offer them steak! It does seem I practice catch and release on people too.

We saw all of the lightening and decided to call it a day. Now I am real sorry we left. You are quite the writer, Bill, makes me almost feel like I was there.

I agree with you about the jig companies. Jewel should be giving me a huge discount. I have a couple about forty feet up in a tree near point nine. My daughter cast a bit high. It was worth the laughs though. I think we lose two or more jigs every time out.

I guess I agree with most of the others. It is legal to keep fish and as long as your legal.....do what you want. I don't keep any fish. I would rather catch them again. I do think if you catch a big humongous trophy fish, then it would be good to let that particular fish reproduce. They don't taste that great when they are large anyway. Even walleye are better eating when they are a bit smaller. The great walleye lakes like Rainy Lake and Lake of the Woods promote catch and release for the larger walleye. I would rather see them eaten than floating around a ramp the next day.

Wednesday AM........... Instead of starting a new thread, thought I would just continue here. We went out earlier this morning and ended up at the ramp just as the lightening seemed to let up. There was plenty of parking with only two other boats there. The lightening started up a few hours later and we decided better safe than sorry. There were two boats getting ready to put in as we were leaving. I think we sort of blocked one boat as we were buckling our stuff down. I thought they were waiting for the storm to clear. Sorry to whomever they were. We could have easily pulled up, but I didn't realize they were putting in until we were almost ready to leave. My partner and I hooked some decent fish, but only actually boated two of them. Some of them managed to throw the hook at us at the boat. Some started to get reeled in and then escaped with the tails off of our grub. I need to use some sort of trailer or something on these Jewel jigs. A much better day than yesterday in mostly the same places. I still think you have to fish as much as you can to keep up with the bass. I am hoping tomorrow is extraordinary as I am taking the Mrs. I am a bit worried about next week because I can only fish one or two days next week. Overall the jig was the way to go for us in about 18 feet of water. My trailer lights were odd this AM. I had signal lights and braking lights, but no running lights. I am off to try to figure out the mystery of trailer lights.

I love fishing even on days like these. It has been a fantastic year. The spring and early summer fishing methods have really carried through this year. i typically struggle through the hot summer months and probably need another lesson from one of you pro guys. Im taking a supervisor out tomorrow so hopefully I can get him on some fish like last week. It should be fun in any case.

What boat are you cruising around in? I see a few diferent ones everytime out. Today I saw a Lund again. Sorry your luck was similar to mine. We still had a blast though.

I have managed to go fishing with and meet for coffee a few of the guys on here. Might be fun to have an annual barbecue or fish fry or something though.

A tough day for us. My partner caught a small mouth, then a kentucky. One on a drop shot and one on the Jewel jig. I caught a huge bluegill. The two fish (bass) we caught were in twenty-two feet of water or near there. We started the same place we caught them last week and moved out from there. There was very little wind and a great amount of HOT. It seems that every Tuesday is a challenge for us, but Wednesday is better and Thursday is best yet. I think you have to fish almost every day and stay on them. If I didn't have to work it would be so much easier.

Another witty addition to the family. Welcome lil brother.

It was a pleasure to meet you too. I might have to visit that Cobra to see what it looks like. I generally stop by most work days around 9AM. I fish on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Monday sounds like fun. The coffee is strong, but he will lighten it up for you. If anyone wants to bring honeyhole GPS coordinates.....LOL

I still wonder if it has to do with the water being let out of Table Rock this year. Last year you could almost feel the dam being turned on and knew the fish would be moving. This year water is flowing a bit more freely. This week the bass are spitting up shad when we catch them. In weeks past it was the crawdads.

9 AMish? Meet you guys there?

We did pretty well today. I thought I saw you (Bill) headed back into Aunt's Creek this morning. I was on the point in a Skeeter and gave a wave. We caught early on the Jewel jig tipped with the doublt tail grub. Nothing huge, but we could have weighed a bag full in a tourney. On a side note.... I have always used the yama or Kunami grub tails. Sometimes I use the BP or the something else, but almost always use the Yama. Babbler mentioned them on here and the pegs are empty at Bass Pro! LOL Had to stop by Table Rock Marine to reload.

It is a tough place to find. I think it is 1005 or 1009 Kenneth, same frontage road Ziggies is on but to the north. I have to agree it is good coffee. Maybe the best in the lower 48!

July 16 Th Roaring River Is Still Fishing Great
techo replied to timsfly's topic in Roaring River State Park
Tim, Great report. My neighbor and his family went down there for some camping and fishing last weekend. I told them about you and your shop. They said they stopped in to see you and you gave his little boy a tackle box of some sort. They were very impressed with the friendliness of the folk down there. Dan said a woman with only one finger on one hand tried to teach him how to tie on the tippet, but finally just tied it on for him. Another guy gave him a fly. Another guy would hook a fish and let Dan's kids reel it in. You all better quit being so friendly down there or you will be swamped with people. Thanks for being so kind to my best friend (next to my Mrs.) -
Fished out of one about two years ago. Seemed to move well, but the strength was in the fishing. It seemed to be heavier ancd fished real well. It didn't tip hardly at all even when two full sized guys were standing on the same side of the boat. I have never owned one though. It was a bit fancier than I ever could afford. I have never heard of any hull problems. It is NOT a Skeeter though. LOL

I have been lucky the last few weeks. When the kids were young, we used to fish from early morning to late into the dark of night. I kind of burnt them out and they haven't wanted to fish for a while. I was happily surprised when she volunteered to go fishing with me today. My son volunteered last week. I let them drive the boat the whole time. It was a fun day! Taking the wife tomorrow. The down side is that they don't like to go as early as I prefer, but it was a total fun day. We caught mostly kentuckys in fiften feet of water. We used a little 5/16 Jewel jig tipped with a green double tailed grub. I asked her to cast out and wait until the line stopped sinking and then drag the rod. Most of the fish hit as soon as she moved the jig. It seemed to be the slower we moved the rod the better chance we had at a catch. We also found a little rock near point 9 which was pretty kind to us. I caught a couple on a drop shot with a little red Chompers drop shot worm. I received the worms for free from some charity tournament we fished this year. All in all one of the best days I havhad fishing ever. There are some jigs about forty feet up in a tree though.
