  1. They really didn't post it officially on facebook, it was an answer to a question someone posted up about the felt ban as to when this goes into effect. Jim said he thought it was posted on the website, but he said somewhere along the lines it was deleted when the statements were posted...
  2. According to Jim at MDC off their Facebook page, he says this goes into effect March 1, 2012. He didn't mention what waters it pertains to though.
  3. I dunno...seems pretty straight forward to me that they don't want anyone using felt soled waders or shoes anymore... And I'm sure they'll let us know which waters this includes to relieve the vagueness of where it applies...
  4. I believe that's a longear sunfish... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longear_sunfish
  5. Went down to St. Francois state park today to wade fish the Big River. It was a great day for wading. Found that there are quite a few really deep pools throughout the park access points so I only waded probably 2 miles or so of the river that borders the park. Caught a couple 10" smallmouths and a 10" largemouth but that's about it. It was a little disappointing as I really didn't see many fish in the water other than shiners and suckers. The bass I did see were mainly smallish and really didn't want much to do with whatever I threw at them. The ones I did catch were cooped up in the few and far between fallen trees/brush that were in the water...
  6. Why does this guy keep digging up old threads?
  7. Guess no one noticed this was a year old thread that troll brought back from the dead...
  8. Having fished at Montauk for many years, I finally made my way to the cold flowing waters of Taneycomo yesterday morning. We only had about a 2 hour window to fish so I definitely wanted more time there. I couldn't believe the number of fish that were holding below the Table Rock dam. Too bad they really didn't want anything of what I had early on. My wife and I got there around 7am and I was using my fly rod and she had a spinner with a Rooster Tail on it since she's not well versed with a fly rod yet. She would have tons of fish come in following hers but would turn away right before they bit, probably due to the 6lb line we had on her rod that I usually use for smallie fishing...She had fun none the less though... I didn't have any luck with stone flys, leeches or crackle backs, but I noticed a large number of fish rising to the top so I switched to a dry fly and finally right before we had to leave I hooked into a rather large rainbow. I never got it to the net though because my tippet-to-leader knot came loose when he darted down stream and I lost it. I would have said it was probably well above 2 lbs. I didn't have time to retie so I borrowed my wife's spinning rod and tried a few casts with it. Then one of the weirdest things that has ever happened in all the time I've ever fished happened...I was watching the rooster tail come in, and about 15' from us I saw it dart about 3' to the side. Only thing was, there wasn't any fish around it. So I lifted my rod and saw a fish about 2' away from my lure start going crazy, it was on my line somehow. I started reeling and my lure came up out of the water and it had another line wrapped around the spinner blade and on the other line was the fish...I didn't get that one to net either, as it spit the tan dry fly that I guess it had broken off another angler's rod. It was a pretty crazy thing. But all in all I got another fly in return for the one I had lost on the bigger fish...
  9. Quotes did it...I thought I tried that but I guess not...
  10. So I guess he's a canoe guy...
  11. I was wondering how to do searches using connectors on here. For example, is there a way to search, say, for indian creek and just get results with indian creek in them? Seems I search for that and get everything with the word creek in it, but no indian. I've used IPB before and I thought you just put the whole thing in quotes but it doesn't work on here. Any help appreciated...thanks!
  12. Al, what kind of kayak do you float on around here?
  13. I just bought my copy of 200 M.S.A at http://www.midwesttackleshop.com It was $19.99+$7(shipping)+$1.40(tax)...Ordered it Sunday, got it Tuesday... Oops, just checked and he's sold out now...
  14. Thanks Al!
  15. I've always wanted to fish the mid to upper parts Big River but never really knew much about it. The only place I've really ever fished it is at the Byrnes Mill access. Are there places to wade fish further up, and if so where are the best access points for that? I've heard that Moorse Mill is a good place to start. Any info is appreciated!
  16. I see the difference now...it's pretty distinct...
  17. Heh, it's funny because I found myself in situation #1 many times yesterday. The water wasn't moving very swiftly though and I didn't run into anything or flip... I usually just got out of the kayak and bank fished when I ended up facing upstream after a turn...
  18. Yeah it's a mustard color, but Bass Pro actually calls it "Puke" Gotta keep the sun off my fair skin...
  19. Floated the Harpers to Hwy 8 section of the Huzzah today and did ok...It was only my second time on the Huzzah and first on that section. Ended up catching 5 smallies total with 4 of them being 8-12" long and the last one being about 18-19" long and about 2.5lbs (scale got wet and couldn't weigh it)...Caught all the small ones on a white Super Fluke TR'ed and the big one on a BPS puke colored 4" tube... I think the first picture is a Neosho smallmouth? Definitely had a longer lower lip than the upper...
  20. Ended up being a pretty good day, even with the heat. Floated the upper 6 and caught 5 total, 4 being between 8-12" long and one right by HV campground that was about 18-19" long and about 2.5lbs or so(my freakin scale got wet and wouldn't work so I couldn't weigh it)...I think the first smaller one I caught is actually a Neosho smallmouth? The lower lip extended a good amount beyond the upper...
  21. I'm going by myself as my friend that used to go fishing with me on Mondays just had his 6 month work schedule shift to Fridays off...And they only rent canoes with minimum of 2 people in them. So a kayak it is...
  22. Fish have lungs?
  23. I'll be renting the kayak and they don't have holders. So I can only take one rod unfortunately. Hopefully in the future I'll have my own fishing-rigged kayak though.
  24. What about the 6 miles above Hwy 8? I know it's a lot more narrow up that way but is it a decent float with the lower water? I've only floated from 8 to Scotia before... I've heard the upper section isn't as heavily floated by recreation floaters and can be better fishing without being disturbed by a bunch of rafts...
  25. Oh yeah, and this would be floating in a kayak...
