  1. A guy I work with told me today one of his buddies buddy caught a 6+lb crappie out of lake of the ozarks this past weekend. The fish would bet the current record by more than a pound. It's currenlty in the process of getting certified as the new state record. I'll see if he can get a picture of it so I can post it on here. I'll keep you updated.
  2. Love me a 5" fluke and 4" tube in crawdad color. My profile pic is of a 3lb smallie taken last year on this bait and I caught 24 smallies on tuesday with a 2lber kicker. Smallies just seem to tear these things up.
  3. Yeah I think that one did drop it's eggs..the belly wasn't that big at all. And I can confirm that there were a lot of snakes crusing around the stream. Must be their spawning season too.
  4. Don't think you'll be throwning that one back. Man kinda looks like me are you sure she's yours....Just joking congrats
  5. I've been meaning to post this the last few days, but just got to it. I had the day off on tuesday and decided to do a 6mile float on the huzzah leaving the resort. It turned out to be a great day with me cathing 30 and lossing about 5 more..3 goggle eye, 4 spot and 22 small mouth. Most of the fish was in the 10 to 12 inch range, but did land a 2.1lb, 17" small mouth. Didn't have any one there to take a pic with me in it so here is one with the ruler on the fish. Only saw two fish on beds and lots of spotted bass and spawnning gar. Almost all of them were got in or near brush. They were really aggresive...I would catch one and there would often be 1 to 2 followers. Can't wait to get back out there.
  6. I would say red ear too, but it does have spots that resemble crappie. http://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/redear-sunfish Looks like you cooked them up, did it taste like crappie or bluegill?
  7. I have the bass pro ascend sit fs12t (sit on top) and it works out great for me. I've taken it out on the meramec for a 7mile float and put it in a few lakes and have yet to get the wet but syndrome. I will actully be taken it out this weekend to try out my new fishfinder install. I have the newest one which has a better seat and extra storage by the cup holder. I've also added a 10" storage copartment in back and a 4"inch dry storage on the other side of the cup holder. I've also added a fishfinder and moved the rod holder closer to me. I think the rod holder is to far in front of you for the average person. The kayak has been great and there is all sorts of mods on you tube that can be done to these kayaks. For people that do have the wet butt syndrome there are pre drilled holes on this kayak where holes were suppose to go, but for somereason they stopped half way and never drilled them all the way through. Some people have just finished drilling the holes all the way through, which in case solves the water holding in the kayak but I have yet to have water sit in the kayak. The boat is on the heavy side at 67lbs but again it's still a nice kayak for the price. Good luck with your purchase any thing that can get you on the water is a plus in my book.
  8. I thumbs up the alberto knot, but even with this knot it still dosn't work well with micro guides. At least on my Ducket micro magic and Bass Pro carbonlight. I have just been running braid and fluro for these two rods or use a very small leader. Small enough that it doesn't pass through the guides
  9. Nice, water looks clear. That wouldn't happen to be the upper meramec would it? Say somewhere around the steelville area. I fish out that way all the time for smallmouth. Tied my personal best 3lb smallmouth on the Huzzah last spring with a tube bait.
  10. I'm sorry, but as an avid fisherman I can't give up my hot spot otherwise it probably wouldn't be a hot spot anymore. I have no promblems giving up my lures. I like to use the square a bomber's, Luckly strike square bills and the Lucky craft 1.5's if you can still find them. The colors I like to use in the dark warter like Unger Park and simpson lake are copper perch and firetiger also good on the meramec. These fish I've caught seem to hit it on the pause using a 6 gear ratio reel. I started the morning of with a 5 gear ratio with no success and after 15min swithced to my 6 gear ratio which seemed to do the trick for me. I would get about three revolutions of the reel in then pause for 3 - 5 seconds and that was when these strikes would happen. Have you had much success at unger park? I fished there once in the fall with a buddy, but it was really shallow at that time. I suspect that with floods it would be a pretty a good lake to fish. I was going to hit the meramec on Monday, but with all the floods I might just shoot for simpson lake and see what's going on there. Any one have any luck withen the past week there? Thanks and let me know if this work for you.
  11. You bet thats what keeps you going back. I went out this morning again for about an hour 8 - 9:15 and manage to hook up with some nice ones again. First catch was a 2lb catfish on a Lukey strike square bill. This was pretty weird, but as weird as it was I always manage to catch at least 2 cats through out the summer on a crankbait or spinnerbait while fishing. I also caught 2 19" inchers that went somewhere around the 4lb mark and one 18" somewhere around upper 3's. They all had big belly's, but not sure if their bedding yet. I'm just loving life right now...Nice weather and the fish are bitting. Well I got to go fishing for a little this morning guess its time to fulfill my end of the bargain and take the wife to the botanical gardens. I"m sure that's not a good think to do when you have allergies, but what can I say. To bad for Mizzou, but at least the billikens are still in it.
  12. I'm in the west county area. I spoke to a buddy of mine yesterday who went out to his farm pound in pacific and caught 25 in a little over an hour. Most of them were in the 1.5lb range with a few in the 2lb range. The funny thing was he caught 85% of them on a buzzbait. The fish are really getting warmed up for him to catch that many on a buzzbait.
  13. I'll make this short and sweet. I had an hour before dinner so I told the wife yesterday evening I was going to head to the local lake to get some fishing before dinner. Much to my suprise it would be one of the best hours of fishing I have ever had. I started out with a bomber square A and hooked up with a 5lber that broke my line. I'm not blaming it on a poor knot so it must have been bad line ;-) . The funny thing was she surfaced a few seconds later trying to throw my lure. I thought OK you win some and lose some I probably won't get a nother nice one like that the rest of the evening. I tied on a RC1.5 and immediltly landed a 4.5lber Snaped a picture and thought no way it would get any better than this. I moved down the bank a little made some more cast and landed a 4lber. I thought man this is awsome lets see if I can get one more before I have to leave. I proceded to fish some more and landed 3.5lber. That's been my best hour at a lake ever. Can't wait to get back out there. The fish are probably going to be spawning here soon with the way the weather has been.
  14. I ended up going with the duckett rod. This thing cast a mile and I can still throw a alabama rig or huddlestone bait on it. The rod runs a little on the light side. So a MH is like a M. Again love this rod. FYI tackle tarp's price is the same as basspro and I don't have to pay for shipping.
  15. I'm looking into getting me a nice all around 7'6" micro MH casting rod and wasn't sure which of these two to get. Does any one have any suggestions, opinions or experiences with either of these two rods. They both have warrenties, but you still have to pay money with either of them if you need to exchance it for another one, so the warrenty is limited. Thanks
  16. Me and some other buddies are going on a fishing trip at the end of April beging of may. I would like to fish Lake of Ozarks, but is there any nice marines that have a fishing pakage for a fishing boat and cabin? Also would this time of year be to busy with boats. thanks
  17. I was wandering if you could hook a foot controlled pedal to a transom mount? I came across this ProControll transom mount http://www.basspro.com/ProControll-Transom-Trolling-Motor-Foot-Control/product/10214272/85845. Bass Pro and Cabelas has bad reviews but was wandering if some one had any experience with this first hand. Looking forward to answers
  18. OK I decided to go ahead and get the kayak with the intention to go for the canoe later. I wanted something I can take on the lake and not get blown around on as well as paddle up stream on the upper meramec if your from MO. Thanks again for all the comments I'll let you know how it works out.
  19. How is this canoe for standing in and fishing out of? Can you go upstream as well as a kayak in this canoe with a kayak paddle?
  20. Looking into buying either a solo canoe Old Town Guide 119 Canoe or a Ascendâ„¢ FS12T Sit On Top Angler Kayak for fishing small lakes. Has anyone had any experience with either of these two. I'm curious if the canoe would get blown around by the wind more than the kayak. http://www.dicksspor...box&003=3933188 http://www.basspro.c...10213830/118791
  21. So I was checking amazon and ended up getting the Okuma 7'6" MH for $62. I couldn't believe how much cheaper it was. The 7' 11" is running $83 much cheaper then tacklewarehouse even with 20% off. Let's hope shipping from amazon holds up.
  22. That sounds like a nice combo but I'm planing on having my wife buy this when tackle warehouse offers their 25% off so $160 my just be a little out of my price range. If he would be willing to take 140 for it I think I would take it. How hard is it to change out the gears? Think he would be willing to part ways with one of his rods? In looking into different swimbait rods what do you think about these rods. Which would you say is the best bang for your buck Well I already have a bass pro carbonlite 6' 10" mh 3/8 - 1 oz and a cabelas prodigy rod 7' MH 1/4 - 1 oz. I was just wanting to get the most out of my rod however my main focus is on a swimbait rod. I think I got it narrowed down to these rods below. Which would you guys choose ? Any info on these rods would be great. Thanks Dobyns Savvy Cast Rod 7'3" Med Heavy 735 1/4 - 1 1/4 7' 3" MOJO BASS MBC711HMF Flippin' 7'11" H Mod. 23. Possible, Looking for a lower 5 speed gear ratio. What size rod and lure weight and would he be willing to sell the rods by their self? Thanks
  24. Ok I'm looking for a rod that can throw the huddlestone ROF 12 and still be used to throw other lures like crankbaits and spinnerbaits. I can't afford to go out and buy lots of rods for different occasions, as least at the moment, so I would like something that is versatile. What do you guys think of these options below or is there something else to recommend for my price range of 120.00 - 150.00? Thanks Dobyns Savvy Cast Rod 7'3" Med Heavy 735 1/4 - 1 1/4 7' 3" Powell Endurance Series Rods 7' 2" 1/4oz. - 1-1.5oz St.Croix Mojo Rods Slop-N-Frog Heavy 3/8 - 1 1/2 7' or buy a Abu Garcia REVO SX Casting Reel from tackle warehouse - $169.99 and get a free Abu Garcia Vengeance Casting Rod 7'6" 3/8-1 1/2oz. Please help me out i'm going to have my wife order it for me for Christmas when tackle warehouse hopefully does their 20% off.
  25. Yeah if I had that hat and shirt your wearing maybe I could have done better. Sammy wasn't working at all for me that day. I think I would have to say the spook is a little better.
